Also, an update on the Koi to Senkyo to Chocolate licensing news:
The Anime Network announced on Wednesday that it will stream the series starting on Thursday, August 30. The website will stream the first two episodes this Thursday, then it will stream two more episodes every Thursday. The first episode will be free and episodes 2-12 will be available for those with a premium subscription.
This means that Joshiraku and Driland are now the ONLY shows that started this season that doesn't have an English simulcast in any way.

I don't think Tanken Driland has simulcast or even streaming either. Well there's also Ebiten, but that's basically a fall anime now.

Guineas is one wacky dude. Anyhow, I always love when I happen upon .gif origins by chance. Someone here posted it at some point, but I can't remember who.

Was that episode the one where
Shrio goes in front of a tribunal?

Fair enough.
As DTL mentioned earlier, I don't think Hyouka or the sports shows have simulcasts?
Those started last season; they're not part of what I'm talking about here. And he was talking about home releases, NOT simulcasts.

Anyway, KoiChoco ISN'T actually licensed for home release yet. It's just a streaming license so far.

Indeed it is.

I really like how
Shiro gives your classic naive protagonist speech about love and war, which is a speech that characters tend to give in such situations. However, usually what happens is that everyone comes around to the hero's way of thinking - hear everyone just mocks Shiro for his naive idealism. I love it.

This... this is the true face of despair. Despair... despair that all episodes can't be as good as this one was.

Sadly they cannot but hey, at least it's got more good episodes than Angel Beats!.

Is that more than what the anime normally sold, surprised people didnt get it just for the OVA.

Posting to subscribe mostly, but I also wanted to tell you guys that Wien sucks and so does Tari Tari. Also most of you should be ashamed for forgetting about Humanity Has Declined when you were talking about best EDs.

It's true. They should all be ashamed.

Gin's past was pretty neat. I liked how active Kagura was in the various bits where she was in the background too as it gives her character some energy.

The post-credit classroom bit was hilarious.

Extollere, what kind of tools do you use? Obviously some sort of drawing tablet.
I'd seriouslyl ike to get into this sort of art, but I have no idea where to start.
I'm still drawing the old fashioned way. I'm such a dinosaur.

Alright, now that I'm home (and posting from an actual computer) I suppose I deserve to give you a proper response to this. I use a large Intuos4 and Photoshop CS6, primarily. I've played with Open Canvas, SAI and a few other popular drawing programs but I always come back to PS. For me it's easy and intuitive, and there are always new tricks to discover within the program. I use custom brushes with opacity pressure, and the default soft brush. My technique is unusual among anime artists (I think anyways), because I don't start a new layer after I've finished my sketch. Instead of drawing clean lines on top of the sketch (and then deleting the sketch below), I just enlarge the resolution and draw directly on the sketch with the eraser. I erase into lines (or softly knock them back) and create new shapes while switching back to the brush to paint finer details. This way I keep the energy of my sketches in the final image, and I get a chunkier, more raw result. I only do things this way because of my own personal preference, and it isn't something I've gotten down to a science. It just makes drawing more fun for me.

Save a little money and invest in a Wacom tablet. It doesn't matter what size, though it's probably best to buy the largest you can afford. Drawing digitally has pros and cons, but once you get used to it you'll find yourself opening up a world of options. You will be able to freely edit your drawings and your designs, without feeling the harsh pressure of commitment that sometimes comes with pencil drawing. You will be able to fix mistakes, and give yourself do-overs, and you will be able to further experiment with styles and approaches. Plus, everything you create will look exactly like it did when you made it (as opposed to scans, which sometimes do not accurately convey the image as it appears on paper).

What I like about openCanvas is it gives me the ability to easily rotate the canvas 360 degrees just by holding the Space Bar and rotating the dial around.

In Photoshop CS6 (and in CS5) you can rotate the canvas freely as long as you have GPU acceleration enabled. I hover my left hand over ASDF/Space, so I have rotation set to A. All that is needed is for me to press the key and then I can flip my image around like a piece of paper however I like with my pen. I also use scrubby zoom (zoom in and out by moving the pen left or right) and scrubby brush size. Brushes in my pallet are set to the left and right button of my pen, so I all I have to do is tap one of those to select the previous or next brush in my set. I set up my workspace and tools so that I don't have to think about them or fiddle too much. On occasion, I will open Photoshop and just fuck around with things. Learn something new about the program or make a new brush.

Persona 4 - 25 & 26

Ameno-sagiri, while always a cool visual, essentially a representation of the voyeuristic role it inhabits as the judge of mankind, always felt very final to me.
The ending of the P4 as a game, was always exhausting, and probably has one too many fake-outs to truly have the impact it probably warrants.

It was interesting to see how they structured the 'true ending' portion of the story, not least of all because the way the game engineers that section would be incredibly cumbersome here. It was a clever conceit
to have the other outcome being played out in the form of the cycle, as it fits into the games logic of having Igor rewind time whenever the Protagonist failed to resolve the story within the alotted time.

It was nice to see some aspects of the ending fleshed out here too, with
Adachi
getting more screen time, who I always felt devolved into something of a card-carrying villian at this point in the game.
His calling out of Yu's resolve does play into the plot more, especially now that he develops a shadow of his own! His preceding scenes, playing the role, were very good.
If the anime has suceeded at one thing, its that it has taken what was previously, nothing more than a player avatar, and given him his own distinct personality. Its these sort of little creative additions that kept me interested in the show. There is clearly a group of people who have paid attention to these littler details, and its something I appreciate.

As ever, the problems I had with this show continue here, the fights are pretty superfluous and add nothing much,
but it was nice to see many of the more well known SMT demons having cameos in the final battle scenes. And maybe it's just that I've had some distance from it since the original run, but man, the animation is really quite bad. I still don't understand how Teddie manages to look as shitty as he does here.

Izanami, they never actually explained who she actually was.
For as much as they made this finale feel more coherent from a narrative standpoint, they fumbled the exection here. If it wasn't for the game,
the revelation of the gas station attendant being the ultimate puppet master, would have been a little confusing. I mean, they actually show that she is responsible, but you actually don't get any real context past some slight psychobabble.
It was an odd decision, and was it not for the fact that they had essentially fashioned an almost new ending, I would have wrote it off as them not seeing the need to explain it to fans.

The whole series looked like dogshit. But it was delicious dogshit.

I couldn't have said it better!

I must know what persona is being used right at the start
hers
is by and far my favorite one and I hope it can gotten in game?

That's Lucifer (Helel), and hes an extremely late game Persona, one which you'd probably never see unless you really went to the effort to reach the requirements to fuse.

Joshiraku #7

Damn straight. Everyone knows Marii is the true waifu.

Speaking of which, where are the doujins? Even Natsuyuki Rendezvous has one.

All Joshiraku's got is this... whatever the hell it is.

Give it time. Porn finds its way into everything. You know it in your heart.

Disney actually had Hisaishi redo the entire soundtrack when they dubbed the film in 1999.

I find the re-recorded soundtrack greatly superior, it fits the adventure-movie tone of Laputa much better and is less dated.

Sounds great, I will definitely check that out sometime.

They generally have two separate subtitle tracks, one for the dub, and for one for the original Japanese. Well, at least they do in the UK Ghibli sets that I have.

Wow, you haven't watched Porco Rosso?! I know what you should watch next in that case, it's unequivocally brilliant.

Nausicaa is next, simply because it's what I have on hand.

One Piece 5

Buggy is all sorts of terrible.

Indeed.

Maturity, bitches.
I usually watch the Disney dubs. they do a good job with them.
As long as you skip the Spirited Away dub. I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy to hear that english "crying".

Spiritied Away is the best of the Disney dubs by far.
Wow. That's such a sly insult.

I heard the opening notes to Crawling and turned that shit off. sorry.
IF you prefer you could imagine the ending with a really smooth rendition of Rudolf.

How many episodes of Sword Art Online have aired?
Too many.

Remember guys, "whiteknighting" too much will make your waifu leave you one day. Also
stalking her certainly doesn't help.

No glops but a squish.

Disagree. I have a soft spot for the Spirited Away dub. It was the first way I have watched most Miyazaki films and this was no exception.

Well I suppose I'm a little harsh on it, but whoever voiced Chihiro really did a botch job and basically ruins it for everyone else.

She's a little kid. you honestly expect an oscar worthy performance for a little child's role?
How many little kids do you know who don't sound like an idiot when they cry?

The Japanese girl (who I'm sure is even younger) didn't give a bad performance which is why I'm perfectly content with watching the Japanese dub.

Persona 4 26

I didn't know everyone's most used Persona looked so weird.

It was ok. Animation was pretty much everywhere in terms of quality. I did enjoy the
whole groundhog day
things they did which was pretty cool.

Infodump was pretty boring, and the whole hands stuff was pretty fun to look at. The persona spam was cool to see them, even though it looked pretty terrible. Poses cut straight from the game, a bunch of different effects that overlays on looking other everything and basically doing one random move before shuffling off to the next. I guess I rather play the game instead now.

Wouldn't mind an Arena anime for some Akihiko action though.

The core theme of this show can take notes from Persona.

They'll feel really dumb when they realise that even the monsters can be dealt with by just pointing their swords at them and muttering the magic words.

Booo shinpachi no one likes you, give me gintoki, kagura or the shinsengumi.

I don't hate shinpachi it's just that his so lame compared to everyone in gintama and his starting to come off as that unnecessary guy that the viewer is meant to relate to.
