The people have spoken. Saki confirmed for best mahjong animu.

But so much beautiful hair animation!

Unfortunately the DEEN-esque faces usually detracted from the hair animation. :(

Oh no you didn't! Can you expand upon that?

A definite part of my apathy for this is due to the fact I didn't care for the aesthetics. Take the generals who accompany the Emperor, for example. There's the cyborg, the weird masked beast, the requisite female, a guy with absolutely wacky hair, and so on. I didn't feel any sense that these were the most dangerous warriors in the star cluster. In general, I didn't like the character designs. Although there were one or two that really stood out in a good way, like the fat villain who had actual teeth, otherwise they looked rather poor, complete with overdone eyelashes, pointy chins and triangular faces, hair with a volume 5 times that of their heads. costumes straight out of Glass Fleet... you know what I mean.

Of course, a simple dislike for the aesthetics alone wouldn't be enough for me to reject a series or movie. Take Bebop, for example. The pseudo-western vibe didn't grab me, but I continued and ended up enjoying the show.

The opening narration describes how the android fatimas, who are of coursed designed to look like beautiful women, are enslaved and mind controlled in order to be used as living machinery by the mech drivers. Obviously, this callous and veiled-sexist position is rather distasteful, which leads to one of the driving conflicts in the story. The main character describes how these androids have developed emotions that can even surpass those of normal humans, and throughout the movie we learn that he has a dream to build a mech that won't require a fatima to operate. So far, so good. We have a hero with a noble goal, and a villainy to crusade against.

Then, for the ending, the main character does the exact thing he's been trying to prevent, using the girl to power his shiny mech. At least the shiny mech was pretty, I guess. As I saw it, the main character was trying to free the androids from their oppression, but he just ended up doing the same thing in the end. I guess the difference between what he did was that Lachesis wasn't being mind controlled, so she chose to do it of her own free will, but the whole narrative still suffers due to the fact she's an exceedingly weak character, and not the role model you'd expect in that position. The only thing we learn about her is that she's desperately in love with the main character, though that doesn't really help, considering the creepy undertones of a young girl undergoing all those ordeals so she can get the guy when she grows up.

There were also plenty of somewhat random character entries and name drops, but considering the source material it was taken from I don't really hold that against the film.

Most of the dreams I actually remember are of hypothetical situations that I wish happened to me in real life.

Dat feeling when you wake up :(

Not my personal experience, but I also know for a fact that my dreams are usually much more vivid compared to most others...
Inception did a decent job at portraying locational discontinuity!

Seriously though, much of the dreams were under outside influence, and having everything go crazy as hell is counterproductive to the reason they were sharing dreams in the first place.

Wolf Children has broken 4 billion yen at the Japanese box office. More successful than Eva 2.0 now!

Hosoda > Anno
How was this ever a debate?
How is it bragging? The anime isn't the reason you have money on the card.
I'm just saying I'm sure not gonna whip that out on a first date.
The internet isn't serious business.
At least an 8 billion dollar business according to some porn companies!

These are the worst uniform designs ever.
You should be thankful they are even wearing a uniform during these indecent times.

Inception just wasnt as fun. It had a flimsier portrayal of going inside of dreams and the whole thing felt kind of forced. It was still fun.
Paprika just did a better job of mixing fantasy and reality together IMO. Plus it had an amazing soundtrack. Paprika was just a more interesting film to me.

Not my personal experience, but I also know for a fact that my dreams are usually much more vivid compared to most others...

My dreams often consist of gigantic tornadoes, being stuck in gang territory, semi-realism, and sometimes being chased by lava.
There was once that I dreamt that all the tupperware containers in my house were actually aliens disguised and I had to get rid of them.

Why do we always compare Kon's and Nolan's worst films against each other? Why not their best?
Millenium Actress vs
The Prestige
FIGHT!

OH HELL NO.
Thats my favorite anime movie EVER :(

It's not a debate, it's business!
Real talk: how many of Anno's works beyond Eva have achieved mainstream appeal? I'm guessing zero.

The whole show is pretty indecent.
The only way to enjoy Yuri Yuri is with your pants off.

The whole show is pretty indecent.

Given the reasons that one would even want to watch Yuru Yuri in the first place, I actually found that cartoonish and simplistic character designs made the material not indecent enough. Good yuri requires a certain level of realism in the female form.

It's not really good yuri (or arguably, good comedy, since it's the same character jokes over and over again in the same exact room).

But it's just relatively benign and inoffensive, so it's easy to get into.

Comparing the aesthetics of Five Star Stories to Glass Fleet makes me feel ill. I can understand not liking them, but please don't go that far! Personally I think they're outstanding considering that most of the characters actually look like human beings but each one of them is unique and memorable, even those that we only see on screen for a few moments. It's pretty great.
The opening narration describes how the android fatimas, who are of coursed designed to look like beautiful women, are enslaved and mind controlled in order to be used as living machinery by the mech drivers. I don't think you can really gloss over that last line. It's the central point of difference between Sopp and Lachiess relationship and the relationships between other Fatima's and their 'masters'. The reason Sopp wanted to create a Mortar Headd that didn't require a Fatima was for that very purpose. However, the Dr. goes against tradition by giving the sister Fatima's free will, this means that Lachiess can choose to work with Sopp rather than simply being bound to him. T
his makes them teaming up at the end of the movie okay, because it's been established that she's not being forced to cooperate.

Furthermore, in that particular scene they
were being pursued by a military force. It made sense to pilot the Mortar Headd and destroy that force before they caught up to them. The movie doesn't detail what they do after that, or whether or not Lachiess continues to act as his Fatima.
but the whole narrative still suffers due to the fact she's an exceedingly weak character, and not the role model you'd expect in that position. The only thing we learn about her is that she's desperately in love with the main character, though that doesn't really help, considering the creepy undertones of a young girl undergoing all those ordeals so she can get the guy when she grows up.
I can't say that I thought Lachiess was a particularly great character but that didn't effect my enjoyment of the piece.

Yuru Yuri isn't even real yuri. The yuri is always played for laughs.
In some ways it's actually more genuine because it's based more around interpersonal connections than fanservice.

I do not typically wear pants in my room for the purposes of cleanliness so I might not be one to talk, but please don't look at the girls that way.

Rinne no Lagrange - 23

I am the bone of my... Oh... Hello! I didn't see you there.

H4T9q.jpg

Each episode never fails to warm my heart. Also, the music and musical timing is always spot on. They really nail the use of each one to convey the mood, though the burgers made me laugh because maybe i'm evil or something, but it was cute.

Also Madoka
taking back Dizel's MARU was MARU as fuck. Bitch don't deserve her MARU!

Also the art and concepts for this episode and the scenes
inside the Rinne were super minimalist, but allowed that to play with the notion of gravity, orientation, and the creativity of the world in some pretty cool ways. Like when they body-slammed Dizel into the ceiling, and then it became the clear ocean despite there already being the one down there was great

I also liked that they finally elaborated
what the Rinne was, and the purpose of it, the Voxes, and Memoria essentially being the theme of the show itself. I really liked how it was all really intertwined, and given all the buildup the show has had building their relationships through everything, the payoff made sense and didn't feel like an asspull at all given the context of the show and how it has been developing, which I enjoyed. I also liked how they fully explained how it has different effects on those who stay there, depending on their wills. Those who get the memoria are truly exceptional people, but it's through their connections with hearts of others that truly give it strength, which is what this show has been all about.

And dem burgers. This show is too much fun for the fun-lover in me.

Man, I remember the days where 4 billion yen was like 40 million USD. At today's exchange rate, it's 50 million USD. Christ.

Man, it's going to triple Summer Wars' box office. And it's already equaled over 15 The Girl Who Leapt Through Times.

And it's quintupled One Piece 6.

I don't know how Our War Games did, but Wolf Children could very well double-up all the rest of his films combined.

I guess you could argue this, but most of their interactions are definitely more "good friends" than anything else, and the yuri elements act as more of a gimmick (and to facilitate shipping wars with an all-girl cast, although that would have happened regardless). Not saying this is a bad thing, it's certainly preferable to blatant fanservice, that's just my impression.

More meaningful relationships just means deeper levels of self-insertion after picking which character is your waifu!
Stop. I don't think you guys get YuruYuri. You're not supposed to pick a waifu. You're supposed to pair them together.
