Hidamari has Rie and Omigawa, so we know already that's the anime of the season!

though, they don't use the kugiloli or angel of death voice for Chika and Nazuna.

So remember how the chorus club was singing "Reflectia" in the first episode of Tari Tari? There's a full 3:30 version of that on the OST.

edit: oh my god, this has a clean version of everyone singing the Ganbaranger theme. OST of the season.

Welp, seeing this in motion is pretty fun. Just as over the top as it should be.

Shiranui is pretty :cajun as well

Subete no aware
Presumably it bombed very, very hard - plus Media Blasters have really been struggling in recent years with a lot of cancellations etc.
Man, poor Squid Girl. I guess S2 will never come out here.

You know with Sentai and Funimation releasing everything, I'm surprised that someone is actually losing money at the anime game. :p

She was just added to Wife Collection today, too.

Damn son. You'll need so many coins!
I already forgot to log in and check on Akari after a day. lol

Do you have to have a Japanese Apple Account to get than on an iPhone?
Looks like it.
Biglobe has some apps on the U.S. store but YomeColle doesn't seem to be one of them.
Yeah, you can make a free Japanese account and download it from the Japanese store. I have no idea how it handles updates though...

You don't need to lie to us, Steroyd.

Never touched Kanon.

Made it to just after the Fuuka arc in Clannad.

Made it to episode 3 of Angel Beats.

Does watching Ano Hana count?

Key anime have always been beyond me, which doesn't make sense considering the shows I've been able to tank through before.

The CM look like this bro.

Hey guys! 28-year old guy here, looking for anime to help me with my Japanese listening skills. I realize people in anime can talk pretty weird compared to normal people, but I don't really care about that. I have other sources of learning and I'm not such a beginner that I can't hear the difference between a polite middle-aged man and a screaming teenager. I just want to listen to Japanese in a context I'd enjoy. So I'd love some good recommendations!

Haven't watched anime since... oh, I don't know, around Samurai Champloo.

So what anime do I like?

- I love more serious drama series or movies like Monster, Perfect Blue, Grave of the Fireflies etc

- ...but also crazy shit like FLCL, Paranoia Agent or Paprika. The latter is one of my absolute favorites, RIP S. Kon (you were the light at the end of the tunnel) :(

- I love over-the-top humorous action (like Gurren Lagann or Re: Cutey Honey) in moderate doses, and I can even tolerate some tongue-in-cheek fan-service (as you can see from my example, although that was a very short series)

- ...but I absolutely cannot stand overly long shonen-series like FMA, Kenshin etc

- Closely related to the above, stylish action like Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo, the original Hellsing (not the remake with the crappy music) is right up my alley

- I also like sci-fi or dystopian stuff like Jin-Roh, GitS or Ergo Proxy very much

- I hate slice-of-life

- I hate pure fan-service stuff, and also have no desire to watch stuff like that in front of my gf even if it was good. Also moe

- I'm on the fence about giant robots... depends on the series I guess.

- Comedy is fine, but most of it just isn't funny. Recommend if you have something REALLY good. I liked School Rumble and Azumanga because they were insane

- Miyazaki is my God

- All in all I'm not really interested in stuff that is mediocre, that "gets going" after half a season or that otherwise would waste my time. But I guess that goes without saying.

So that's it. I'd much appreciate any tips you'd have for me!

Hell's Angels. Kūchū Buranko. Maybe Panty and Stocking. It hard to recommend crazy shit since everyone has difference tolerance levels.

Try Fate/Zero. Its a favorite around here. Watch the movie Redline if you want animation porn.

- Comedy is fine, but most of it just isn't funny. Recommend if you have something REALLY good. I liked School Rumble and Azumanga because they were insane
Try Full Metal Panic Fumouffu. Maybe Nichijou it more a love it or hate thing though. This is another hard category to recommend since humor is so subjective.
- Miyazaki is my God
Watch Mamoru Hosoda's movies.. The Girl Who Leapt Through Time. Summer Wars. Wolf Children Hes a way better god than Miyazaki!

These bad guys are really chewing up the scenery with the way that they're acting, the Acting Principal even has his own 'evil laugh' for cripes sake! I expect to see a scene where he kicks his dog.

Also considering this shows, er, topic you'd think they'd have decent pitching animation: sadly this is not the case. Still, I suppose that's to be expected giving the quality of the production as a whole.

You, er, seem to like a wide variety of shows - and there's nothing wrong with that! As you're happy with so many titles it makes recommendations somewhat tricky as I feel like I could recommend just about anything. I guess I'll stick to the 'classics':

Fate/Zero (TV series) - There's so much talking!

Mushi-Shi (episodic TV series) - Extremely solid story telling in a variety of styles. A nearly flawless show that suitable for any viewer.

Mononoke (episodic TV series) - Kind of a mystery/character study show, there may be some trickier dialogue here.

Kemonzoume or Kaiba (TV series) - these may be a little too extrem visually for your taste, but what the hell. Everyone has to watch something really out there once in a while.

Baccano! (TV series) - Because you like stylish stuff with some action and crazyness.

Kaiji (TV series) - For drama, tension and lots of people breaking down in painful tears

Sword of the Stranger - because everyone needs a stylish action series (not a lot of dialogue though)

JoJo's Bizarre Adventure OVA - It's a shounen fighting show, but it only lasts 13 episodes. In other words, you might find it palatable at this length.

As per your requirements, I believe that everything I've listed is very good to excellent in terms of quality. I've chosen titles which have found appeal with a very wide audience rather than some more niche stuff.

Sword Art Online 3

This show is written with all the subtlety of a Michael Bay flick.

Also, Kirito isn't MMO Batman, he's MMO Saya.
Nah, he really is mostly MMO Batman. If Batman was really boring and lacked any interesting characteristics.

Huh? The pitching animation was really well done, not sure what the complaint is about.

If its about the hitch in the windup, thats a totally normal thing. Plenty of pitchers do it - seems like its especially the case with Japanese pitchers. It's a means of throwing the hitters off in terms of timing.

So you're just looking for some general recommendations? Let me see what I can help with.

- I love more serious drama series or movies like Monster, Perfect Blue, Grave of the Fireflies etc

Along these lines, I'd recommend Master Keaton (an earlier adaptation of an Urasawa manga, about the adventures of a globe-trotting archaeologist/insurance investigator/jack-of-all-trades), Barefoot Gen (another exploration of the impact of the Hiroshima bombing), Aoi Bungaku (widely varied but mostly serious compilation of various adaptations of classic Japanese literature), Gankutsuou (a really striking adaptation of Dumas' Count of Monte Cristo).

- ...but also crazy shit like FLCL, Paranoia Agent or Paprika. The latter is one of my absolute favorites, RIP S. Kon (you were the light at the end of the tunnel) :(

The two anthologies Genius Party and Genius Party Beyond contain a lot of interesting shorts; some of them are either too obtuse or too sparse with dialogue to be helpful for Japanese practice though. I'm fond of Kaiba and Tatami Galaxy, two shows by crazy guy Masaaki Yuasa. Mononoke (+ the related episodes 9-11 of Ayakashi: Japanese Classic Horror) and Trapeze are two shows with both unusual visual and directing styles and thoughtful psychological character analysis.

- Closely related to the above, stylish action like Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo, the original Hellsing (not the remake with the crappy music) is right up my alley

The samurai film Sword of the Stranger contains some of the best action ever animated. Dirty Pair: Project Eden is one of the greatest examples of classic 80s action, and the TV/OVA series are also worth watching.

- I also like sci-fi or dystopian stuff like Jin-Roh, GitS or Ergo Proxy very much

Time of Eve is an excellent sci-fi take on robot-human relations. Metropolis is a worthwhile dystopian sci-fi film.

- Comedy is fine, but most of it just isn't funny. Recommend if you have something REALLY good. I liked School Rumble and Azumanga because they were insane

Comedy is a tricky thing to recommend, as finding something funny is so subjective. Some of my personal favorites are Gintama, Soredemo Machi wa Mawatteiru, The Legend of Koizumi OVA, Nichijou, and Ouran High School Host Club - I can't promise that you'll enjoy them, but they're worth checking out at least.

- Miyazaki is my God

If you haven't, you can check out some of his pre-Ghibli TV work on Future Boy Conan and Sherlock Hound. There's also the work of his overshadowed but, IMO, superior Ghibli colleague, Isao Takahata - Gauche the Cellist, Only Yesterday, My Neighbors the Yamadas, Chie the Brat. Finally, I'd recommend some worthwhile family films outside Ghibli - The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, Doraemon: Nobita's Dinosaur (2006), You Are Umasou, and Mai Mai Miracle.

There's certainly plenty more I could pull out, but that'll do for now.

So it's doing better than Wolf Children?

[More stuff]
I didn't want to drown the guy with more recommendations than he could handle, however the vast majority of these titles were on my recommendation list before I cut it down to size. I endorse these works.

No but when the hell has critical acclaim mattered outside of oscar season?

When you're trying to sell a movie to the general public. It may sound silly now, but the only reason I picked Spirited Away up out in a rental-shop was because it had 'Oscar Winner' on the case. Of course, that was a long time ago.
