He apparently only uses his real name on movies o_O I guess I could understand not wanting to overshadow the other animators (especially if he's not directing but just animating) but he has some really weird rules regarding using his name.
Funny thing is... first that came to my mind was Shergal mention of this situation , and the posterior conversation, the moment Yoshiji Kigami precisely overshadowed everyone working on that Tamako Market series! :p

So I never got around to discussing this. What are people's opinions on Ishidate? He's never directed a full series before.
Ishidate is a very good animator and a mostly good storyboarder. He's the go-to action/FX guy in Kyoani too, so it seems fitting that he's directing the action show.

e: Oh, and he loves fancy (and sometimes not so fancy) post-processing, the Nagato vs Asakura fight in that video was from an episode he directed (his debut as SB/ED, actually), and the CM for KnK was also pretty charged with it. Not a lot of his episodes are bloated with that shit though, he probably can't always get away with it.

He could, or could not, bring down the overall visual quality of KnK depending on how he goes about that. I'd hope he knows to restrain himself, but one can never be sure...
Yea, he's obviously a very capable animator but that doesn't always translate into a good director.
At least he still gives masterclasses on animation at their school! For being a direct apprentice of Mr. Kigami, he eventually prefers no visual subtlety and his very layered compositions... but his work as storyboard artist and some individual episodes demonstrate he can have, I think, an actual good sense of direction.

I'm pretty sure this was the episode where SynergySP brought in a bunch of Gainax staff to work on the episode. It really showed.

Edit: Oh, it was Imaishi? I see. I didn't know who anyone was when I watched HnG, so all I knew was that "Gainax worked on this episode of HnG", lol.
And that would be very much true, indeed! Mr. Amemiya (specially interesting contribution, in my opinion), Mr. Kubota, Mr. Sadakata, Mr. Saeki... all came to support an ex-GAiNAXer (already resigned at that time) like Satoshi Yamaguchi on his first role as 'sakkan'.

Yay! Can't wait to see vomit-chan!
There is only place for a true 'vomit-chan' in my heart, Madotsuki is the one!

Adapted from the popular manga, this drama is set in the town of Higashimikawa in the prefecture of Ehime and is about Kamogawa Yoshiro, an average teenager, with no special talents nor outstanding abilities. Until one day, he could suddenly hear other people's thoughts. He could tell that Hayashi-sensei harbors some ulterior motive when it comes to dealing with the new transfer student, Asami Sae. Yoshiro admires Asami, and thus with his newfound powers, he intends to protect her from Hayashi sensei. With that "I shall protect you" thought, came another, "I shall save the world!". Later that day, at the Cafe where he often hangs out, he realises that his childhood friend, Hirano Miyuki, and the Cafe owner, Nagano Terumitsu, have also acquired new powers.
Meanwhile, upon hearing the news of how many townspeople are suddenly acquiring special powers, the mysterious teacher and his assistant decide to move to the town of Higashimikawa...

AnimeGAF IRC has always had a large proportion of traffic that is people posting porn (or people swearing at each other); that's pretty much why I stopped visiting (although I also didn't really have a lot to say, which kind of defeats the purpose of a chat room).

I might have to stop reading the thread in a few weeks, anyway; I'm changing careers to become a teacher and will be behind the school firewall at all times (living on campus), and I somehow doubt they'd take kindly to an internet history with a thread that fairly regularly talks about sexualising 13 year old girls. That's if GAF isn't blocked anyway!

Perhaps I'll have to use my Twitter account more for following anime stuff, or use my mobile without connecting to WiFi. Next season's potentially way too exciting to miss out on entirely - hopefully they won't mind me using Crunchyroll at least.

Large proportion? It's like 4 users tops that are responsible for the porn links and you can just ignore 'em. The swearing at each other happens a lot but its all in good fun! >.>

Bluwacky was the embodiment of our innocence and now kayos has robbed us of a good poster. Damn him.

Horrific confession time - I have kayos on ignore because every time he asks a ridiculous question I get really angry that he doesn't look things up himself and makes himself look stupid, so I had to stop reading all his posts to calm my nerd rage. Also the SAO spam when it was airing was just too much.

Sorry kayos! I don't hate you, and I do actually read quite a few of your posts anyway because you're not an idiot in other threads, but... seriously, don't just post without thinking. Maybe I should have thought more about posting this, but... there you go.

That will probably happen to me when I get full-time work as a primary school teacher in four-years. Although I'll be too busy to hang out on IRC anyway.

Gifu Dodo!! Kanetsugu & Keiji 6

While it wasn't the prettiest, there was a visually consistent episode finally. Here's hoping it stays this way. I have the same feeling with this ep as I did when Bakumatsu Gijinden Roman turned good. Probably didn't hurt the episode director did the storyboarding if ANN is right. Which it might not be! ANN also said there was three animation directors this time around too.

@madpierrot: Don't neglect this one.

Kids on the Slope 5

Everything in this episode came together when Kaoru started laughing. Like he said, all the tension just disappated into thin air.

Smiled so much when he learned to deal with Ri-chan like a normal human again.

Anyway, the more I poke around with Hummingbird the more annoyed I am that it's not goodreads. It should display all my currently watchings in a list down the side or I should be able to scroll the frontpage carousel, and I should be able to set which show's I've watched and up to what episode without having to click the up arrow 82 times. Should be able to see my library as a series of cover arts all in a row like an expanded version of the frontpage user banner. Other than that though the design is alright.

Gen'ei wo Kakeru Taiyou 5

Decent episode, but still depressingly by-the-books and progress-free. When is this series going to start actually going somewhere?

One Piece 593

Still litrally several months behind, but this has definitely surpassed the manga in quality. The whole Yeti Cool affair and Luffy using myriad abilities back to back to back was exactly what I signed up for in following One Piece. Then to top it off with that ending reveal. Easily the best episode of the arc thus far.

Full Metal Panic! Fumoffu - 8

Damn right a Goddess is coming to Japan. I hope Mao and the blonde guy get some airtime too. The squad was a big part of the fun in season one.

By Goddess you are of course referring to the Holy Matron of Ass Kicking, Her Grace Melissa Mao, I assume. Because Mao is the best girl and even perpetual pervert Kurz Weber knows this.

But yes, Melissa and Kurz will be in a couple episodes of the show, too.

Aaaargh, it hasn't even been that long since I watched FMP and now I want to see it again.
