Contarian gives contrary opinion? Yep!
Zac is the guy who rages about the Usagi Drop ending but hasn't read it and doesn't actually know what it entails.

So yeah. ANN is only good when they have guests on... but even he was a bit much during the Manga Pals episode because he was basically shouting over Deb Aoki.

So guys, if I was gonna ask for some soul crushing, heartbreaking, and potentially heartwarming romance shows, what would you recommend? I've watched all of Clannad and Toradora! and some movies, and I have Air and Kanon on hold.

INB4 School Days

Kanon 06. Don't watch the other version, its terrible. Clannad AS is as good as it gets in the genre honestly.

I'd recommend half of ef: a tale of memories - the show is split into two different arcs. One half is pretty meh, but the Chihiro stuff was really sweet.

Also 5 CM/S is the most accurate reflection of love you'll ever find in anime. So watch that if you haven't.

then they should have realized they could have used the words slutty or a slut if we going to be "accurate" to the Japanese lone word, but the better word for it "ratchet" because we don't want to use the older conventions of that word slut. It also fits certain aspects of her demeanor.

well..I learned something from Novid today!

Your avatars always enchant me.

I won't be able to play FFXIV until I take this test I have to take. 1200 pages of studying Oh My Gawd.

Are you on Ultros?

His avatars often have Momo so thats ubderstandable.

SAIKANO.
if you ever want to watch everything go to the deepest bleakest depths of shit and despair watch Saikano. I marathoned the show before but I woulx not recommend doing so.

I can't think of another podcast that makes me actively not want to engage with a particular medium, as much as that one does. Utterly contemptible!

He is. Your GPS icon is even a red Zaku.

I think this may just beat that Wakamoto GPS.

It's true. The problem is that they are the only game in town, so when Funimation wants to spill about whatever they're selling and whatnot, ANN is really the only place they will go.

Hell, Zac has teased that Sentai is almost ready to do a show with them and Sentai is notoriously secretive. If you want to listen to a Sentai interview, whatever that might sound like (I wonder if Zac will have the balls to ask how they can afford to license so much shit, for example), you really have no choice but to go there.

I think the wahjahiest podcast was when Zac had a "debate" or a "conversation" with some guy who has a blog all about moe.

That said, his interview with Jake Adelstein, the guy who investigated the Yakuza is probably one of the better "Japanese culture" episodes that I've listened to in recent years.
(Protip, if you want to live in Japan and not teach English, become a servant for a Buddhist monk for a year and live at a temple lol)

Is he archnemesis status for you yet?
I hope my life isn't sad enough to have an anime archnemesis.

Although, I will say, he's basically the Arthur Geis of anime.

It's Gies man. Get your archnemesis' names right! Also comparing somebody to Gies is harsh. Quite harsh.

Saikano. It has all 3 in abundance.

Just watch Koi Kaze and then despair at the fact that no romance will ever be as beautiful again. This is the only correct answer to your question.

If incest is a dealbreaker, though, a couple of alternative suggestions would be Ano Natsu de Matteru (I don't know about soul crushing, but there's definitely some romance, some heartbreaking and some heartwarming in there...plus it's a good show), and maybe Kashimashi if you're up for a yuri angle (the manga ending is better than the anime ending, but both are well worth your time).

SAIKANO.

Noted! I think Saikano was already on my "to watch" list, but good to get some reinforcing opinions. The others I will look into.

Kanon 2006 is what is on my on-hold list and ef is on my "to watch". I have seen 5 Centimeters per Second; it's one of my favorite films.

I'm probably going to be alone in this but...

Rumbling Hearts/Kimi ga Nozomu Eien

Oh god not that show. That show induces rage not despair!

Really great show, probably my surprise of last season (along with Maou-sama). And hnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnng Tsukiko is the most :cajun character eeeeeever.

Shes pretty squeedorable. Im excited for the figurine of her that comes out this year.

What's wrong?

Last day of work, which makes me really sore at the fact that the weather resulted in me getting less work in the past couple weeks. On top of that, I managed to literally feel miserable, as if I haven't eaten anything, and nearly passed out while I was working... with sheers in my hands.

Sadly strain sort of put pressure to the 3DSXL screen, so screen scratches. Yay :/ (nowhere near as horrible as the OG 3DS so I'll managed. After work, started feeling even more light headed again, but I went to the food pantry for... food, in which I felt miserable again. So 2 hours later, we leave, go to Winery's. Decided to eat one of those cinnamon rolls... Broke a fork in the process rather easily. Attempted to give a company some money for something I wanted. NOPE! Can't even let you buy something you've wanted for over half a year now, because for some reason, I can't have fun today. Guess that Cure Marine
Super Silhoutte
figure will have to go find another owner.

Yes! Precure 5 − 32

...Guys, I'm pretty sure you're just tormenting her on purpose now. Leave the poor girl alone.

They won't. I could probably write an essay or something similar on just how much they torment her, but I'm waiting for the right moment.

Watamote - Ep. 8

It’s seriously getting difficult to watch this series. Not because its bad, boring or anything negative regarding the quality of the work. I simply am having a difficult time stomaching the cringe-inducing situations Tomoko gets herself into. I don’t know how much complexity the writer intended to put into the character. Cringe could be the currency the author is using to sell the viewer discomfort which seems to be the show’s staple product and Tomoko could very well be an empty soulless hype man used to do so but thinking of her that way makes me sad.

As demonstrated in this episode again, the life she leads is all her fault but the tragedy that seems to be sprinkled with comedy here and there is played out as no one in this word wants to help that nasty little freak. No one wants to save her; not even the people close to her who clearly realize her nature. They’ve clearly given up. There’s no growth to be had here. I feel like I’m just watching here like everyone else in that world and waiting to see which “hilarious” situation will cause her to take her own life. That’s all kinds of terrible.

I just can't tolerate that on a regular basis. I've attempted it on a few occasions, but I just come away feeling annoyed about the whole thing.

I'll happily source my news from elsewhere, or not at all, as the case may be!

I'm moderately interested in anime sales numbers inasmuch as you can see how the American fanbase lines up with the Japanese fanbase and given that DVD sales numbers are even more secretive than the NPD numbers, even the cagey Funimation responses of "it sold to our expectations" is some indication of what people actually buy here.

Alternatively, someone here can just pay the 20 grand to get the numbers and publish them for everyone to see. lol

I never got around to watching this episode which is strange, since hosanna told me that this was all Senjyogahara all the time, so I should have jumped at it immediately. Either way, she continues to prove that she's amazing. Having her father drive them and having those conversations anyway, damn, she knew what a vice grip she was putting on his balls and she loved it. And her reactions when he called her "Senjyogahara" "Father, Araragi is trying to thank you for something." Too good. Araragi says he doesn't want her sharp tongue and abusive remarks, I say fuck you, that's why she's so great. But Araragi actually had a really nice talk with Mr. Senjyogahara. Perhaps that's why she didn't mind squeezing Araragi's balls. And I would kill to hear what she whispered in his ear.

Point is, Hitagi Senjyogahara > you. Deal with it.

So there's four OVAs apparently that I also have to watch? Then it's Neko or Nise (which apparently is sub-par)?

OVAs are like the Oreimo OVAs. They're an actual continuity, so watch em. Nise comes after Bake, then its Neko.

They're not OVAs in as much as they are episodes that got delayed because Shaft has gotta Shaft.

But then it's Nise, Neko, Monogatari S2, and somewhere Kizu fits in there assuming the movie is real and not the Big Foot of the anime industry.

I personally think Nise is stronger than Monogatari S1, but that's probably because I liked the central theme of "lies" being used throughout the season. Doubly so since most of the season involved two or three people talking to each other.

I see Tomoko growing up to be one of those hyper sexual escorts just to keep up these delusions....

as for now - shes much uglier version of rin from KNJ.

That's kinda weird; this isn't like Madoka where they left you baited for the ending. That last episode probably would have served well as an ending. But okay, I'll watch them. And it's a bit reassuring to hear somebody likes Nise.

Well...that's certainly an opinion.
I've always said that I like the talking. It's just better in Nise. lol

Madoka was a production issue as well though. That wasn't some purposeful cliffhanger made to remind you of the days when you wondered who shot JR.

(Although I don't think anyone knows who JR is nowadays lol)

Gatchaman Crowds 07

Team fight! It's happening.....and then.........nothing. Another damn tease. When you gonna give me what I want, Gatchaman?

Besides that, episode was fantastic. Main plot FINALLY seems to be set into motion. We get to see the Gatchaman confront the big bad
only to be defeated miserably
. Really interesting dynamic. The Hajime/Bad Gatcha discussion was really fun as well. I still don't love her as a protagonist, but she's not completely putting me off the show like I fear she would do from the first epode.

My favorite part of the episode was the
destruction of the 100
. Finally. Get that aspect out of here for a while. That should finally put the onus on the Gatchaman to actually do something. So far, they seem like piss-poor heroes. Time for them to step it up.

Yep, great episode. Still loving this show so far. Can't wait until the next episode.

(Hey, I thought the romance in that show was really affecting, all right? And it needs to be evangelized more, anyway.)
