Holy hell that's harsh. I thought people were being unreasonable when they hated on Mepple and Mipple, but now we're treating Coco and Nuts like hellspawn? They're nice people, what did they ever do to you?

The only somewhat annoying thing about Coco and Nuts is their voices in mascot form, but they make up for that by spending most of the time in human form anyway. I quite enjoy them as characters
though admittedly a lot of that may come from how adorable it is seeing Nozomi and Komachi swooning over them
.

Noooooooo don't tone down the shipping the shipping is cuuuuuuute

I am looking forward to Milky Rose though (Milk is wonderful already, anything that makes her more prominent has to be good). And whoever said Cure Mint isn't useful in battle?! For a character whose only abilities are defensive, I thought she's had a pretty good showing. Also she was seriously badass in the last episode I watched. (There was a scene where she stopped a vicious assault from toadbird-woman in its tracks by grabbing her fist with one hand. I was actually going to GIF that scene, but then I figured seven screencaps and two GIFs for the episode was probably enough already =p)

That sounds promising at least. I was kind of worried that two full series would be a bit much for sticking with the same characters (again), but if GoGo is that much better, I feel a little safer in looking forward to it.

"Oh, reeeeeeeally?"

Many hate Coco and Nuts because they are the most useless fairies in the entire franchise. The Mascot voice only drives it home. Due to their uselessness, their existence was primarily to make it creepy with the "romance" with animals that can turn into people.

Toning down the shipping is fine because quite frankly, the shipping is pretty much set in stone. No need to really expand on something that's already set for the record.

I think a lot of comments on Cure Mint (and consequentially Cure Rosetta) is the fact that Cure Sunshine outdoes both of them as a Defense Precure, although it's much more damaging in Rosetta's case because it feels like they're specifically holding her back. Well it's one way to put it. More on how she's primarily shielding, so it's like... she's not very offensive and feels useless as a result. Pretty much a big problem with Utility Cures. Then there's the personality and subplot with her that many don't... care for to put it lightly.

GoGo actually doesn't do retreads like Max Heart did, so that made it better. Less repetitive too.

Wolfrun is lacks a human form, and is also a villain. More bias in a villain's favor since it covers one of doujins.... largest genres :/

Holy shit. This... this movie is like landscape porn. Oh god I feel unclean just watching it! My eyes! It's too goddamn beautiful!

/edit woah, feet. That's cool bro

Well-formatted sales lists have arrived.

** (***) --- 10,345 *,*10,345 **1 Uta no Prince-sama Maji Love 2000% v3

Vividred Operation: final BD+DVD average 6,573 across six volumes
Little Busters: final BD+DVD average 10,199 across nine volumes

Well at least its still over 25k, kind of think its better than titan so wish it was still in 50ks.

I wonder wher BroCon fits in in the context of the otome adaptations list posted once I think.

The Ace Attorney live action movie was a great surprise. I'm not a huge fan of the series, I only played the first game but still.
It ended up being one of the most fun movies I've seen last year.

The Yuuko fight/make-up scene was pretty nice also lol at the dog patting Yuuko's back.
Nano is making friends how very sweet. Professor still refuses to remove the key though and that causes issues. (as is logical)
And wait Go Soccer is actually a thing. lol
New OP and ED are pretty amazing visually. Not sure which more than the other.

I've been thinking about Evangelion Rebuild's weird alternate universe use of the characters in advertising. It's like some Angelic Days version of the Rebuild universe where everyone is happy all the time and selling products like mad.

Well its been quite a few years since everything happened. I guess their moods changed.

Well he's already worked with them on 2 projects so there's some kind of connection there and considering he has yet to have a hit will probably hamper his ability to get work with other studios.

Hatakeyama is definitely at DEEN for the moment; he's storyboarded episodes of Hetalia the Beautiful World and Hakkenden in addition to his direction of Sankarea and Rozen Maiden. It's likely that he'll storyboard for Pupa as well.

At any rate, I don't think you need to fear that Hatakeyama will find himself destitute on the streets. Like others have said, "no hits and you're out" is not how the anime industry works, especially since a show being a sales hit depends on a lot of factors outside a director's control. Did Wandering Son selling poorly stop Ei Aoki from getting work? Certainly not.

From the melodramatic wailing above I was expecting this to be some horrible abomination, but it actually doesn't look bad. The pastel colors are pleasant and the character designs easy on the eyes. There have certainly been far worse looking low-budget shorts out there.

Alright. So I watched something over the last two weeks. I finally got around to watching Tweeny Witches. I went into this pretty much blind but I got a good deal on the whole set so took the plunge. I have to say it's a better Escaflowne than Escaflowne.

Im not sure why you'd compare it to Escaflowne but yes its pretty good. The only series Studio 4C ever worked on outside of their short animations and background work.

Dude, it's totally Escaflowne.

First off, not a spoiler but bothy shows start with a young human girl getting transported to another world.

But hey the similarities don't stop there.

Now, lets compare the heroine's friends, in Escaflowne Van has
wings
and in Tweeny Witches the witches and presumably warlocks have
wing marks from when there people had wings.
. Both "enemy nations" in the shows are relative technologically superior nations compared to the rest of the world in both shows. Both leaders of these nations are old men of science. Both plots amount to the protagonists trying to keep the bad guys from using their super weapon. Both have a
genderbent lost sibling
. Both essentially start because
an ancestor of the female protagonist already visited the realm and set things in motion.
Mom and dad issues abound.
Both climaxes really start
because of an ally unwittingly falling for the bad guy's trap.
Both have the standard sappy melodrama
I love my time here but I'm going back although Escaflowne pumps up the needlessly cliched dorama to the max.

They're the same show.

Aoi Bungaku - No Longer Human 1

One of my friends wanted me to try this series out, especially since the "Run, Melos" portion is directed by the director of Mouryou Hako, Ryosuke Nakamura. I guess it's worth getting deeper into that when I reach that part. This particular section is the work of Morio Asaka, probably most notable of late for directing Chihayafuru, and who I'm most interested in for directing Gunslinger Girl.

The first episode seems to be setting up the premise of this particular story. Our protagonist is the youngest son of a wealthy family in late-1920s Japan without much aim in life, hanging out with dodgy revolutionary groups to kill time. Running from the cops drives him into the bosom of a hostess working the nightlife to keep herself afloat while her husband sits in jail. They're both weary of life, for different reasons. The early narration more or less tells us what will happen by the end of this episode;
he will kill her in an attempted "lover's suicide"
. The aftermath will presumably contain the central conflict.

What struck me most about this episode as effective is its use of color. There are two primary tones wielded here. Scenes are either bathed in deep red or muddied with brown-blue-green. This makes the red stand out: a color of passion, a color of flesh, a color of blood. It relates to the protagonist's guilt, as well as his weird mother issues, hinted at in flashbacks whose style I didn't much care for.

ihkuNjefqHmhR.jpg
ibczgRPEFAI029.jpg

Red. The latter image, in context, is pretty explicitly drawing on the image of a maternal womb.

iL3Wh8tkxodWe.jpg

A blue scene, the more usual palette of this episode.

I liked the pacing of it. Besides the flashbacks, time moves forward in the present day at a determined clip. There's enough space for characters to react, for us to see how characters feel through their expressions, but dead air is culled ruthlessly. It's balanced well enough to fit this little romance into an episode without making things incoherent.

Also, this episode has a brief clothed sex scene between two consenting adults, which I don't think I've ever really seen in anime, despite all the fanservice and nudity that happens.

Moretsu Pirates/Bodacious Space Pirates Episode 26: I do have to say that I am glad this is getting a movie because this finale is rather dissatisfying for a few reasons. First and foremost, this was just an odd point to end the series, trying to throw out these great ponderous questions about the future yet the immediate answer is known and the real answer will not come for a time.
Also, the final boss went down like a bitch, and while the made sense from the perspective of the story. One the recurring marvels that Captain Marika showcases is her cunning and creativity which is used to ensnare and stun lock and down the Grand Cross without much effort. Though it turns out this was a actually some sort of test battle which may be connected to Ironbeard's plans and this mystery queen. See, shit like this is why I always felt that Moretsu Pirates always ended its arcs on a dour note, because they all lacked a sense of closure and indeed that is what we get here. Questions about the future are abound, but Marika has one more year of High School left, who the fuck end a story set in High School at the start of senior year? Also, am I the only one who found it funny that even Kenjo Kurihara was shipping Chacki with Marika.
Anyway, overall this was a decent series marred by a lot of pointless baggage (looking at you High School setting) and some very questionable writing precepts.

Very good.
Your analysis is quite true..i'll just say that it ends that way Because only 3 books were adapted in anime , simple as that...there is plenty of more adventures for marika and her crew .... and plenty of sub plots get solved later ..those first 3 volumes you just watched were like the prologue ..That's why marika still has 1 more year to do and plenty of things can happen in 1 year.

Holy hell that's harsh. I thought people were being unreasonable when they hated on Mepple and Mipple, but now we're treating Coco and Nuts like hellspawn? They're nice people, what did they ever do to you?

HUman form is passable , mascot form is useless.
Mascot form does help for transformation, voice is horrible. Milk arrived and was much better because... she directly interracted with the cast ( much more than coco && nuts ) & was a battle asset.
Well, if these scenes make even you think Nuts isn't awful, I guess they must be good.

Noooooooo don't tone down the shipping the shipping is cuuuuuuute

I was actually going to GIF that scene, but then I figured seven screencaps and two GIFs for the episode was probably enough already =p)
this was the first time they did a defensive precure and aside from a few moments, she didn't shine much she stickied to her defensive role , almost too much and her screen appearance is uneven because toei wasn't able to manage everyone time properly.
That sounds promising at least. I was kind of worried that two full series would be a bit much for sticking with the same characters (again), but if GoGo is that much better, I feel a little safer in looking forward to it.

No! Stop talking about toning down the romance! The romance is cute, dammit! T_T
The only romance worthy of my attention is karen x milk .

Many hate Coco and Nuts because they are the most useless fairies in the entire franchise. The Mascot voice only drives it home. Due to their uselessness, their existence was primarily to make it creepy with the "romance" with animals that can turn into people.
Most useless fairies ? Yep.
If they were giving battle advice or discussing stratégies ( because it was shown that they are smart ) that would have been fine ...but all they do is run away crying ...Damn

Last thing I need is for Kyubey to become a shapeshifter.

Might as well name him Pennywise.
“Want your happyness, Madoka?' Pennywise asked. 'I only repeat myself because you really do not seem that eager.'

Naruto Shippuuden - 327-328

Don't know why I even tried watching again, filler, filler, flasback, bla bla, I've mistaken I still can't take this crap still.

009 Re: Cyborg

This post 9/11 Paranoia is a very interesting direction to take what I recall being a traditionally rather cartoony, if still serious, series. The direction and redesigns are, I think, impeccable, but the story seems like a lot of pseudo-philosophical and theological nonsense and the CG's lack of weight and strange uncanny-valleyness is a real detraction from anything that isn't the action sequences, which fare a little better.

Should have watched it in 3D instead. Those stereoscopic reflections on close ups of glass panels are fucking hot. :D

Jesus, this CG is realllllllllly bad.

Things that would look quite alright if done in traditional 2D look like they're just moving wax dolls. Especially the bizarre, unmoving faces.

/edit oh my god this fucking exposition

the director's trying as best he can to make it interesting with dynamic angled camera shots and closeups but it's sooooo fucking boringggggggg

Shion episode was actually really good even beyond it being about Shion; SYMBOLISM!

Wow, okay, that seriously was a total piece of nonsense, an almost literal deus ex machina of the highest order. Wow.

There's not really that much you can do with explosions to make them stand out as unique, honestly. At least there's no examples that come to mind.
Outside the realism seekers, as an example, I think that things in opposite sides of the spectrum like 'Kanada-style' explosions and Mr. Masuo/'Annoxplosions' have a really differentiated and true recognition.

I dub this phenomenon :imaishi.
Difficult to beat him giving Mr. Yoshinari total free reign to do a-explosion-inside-a-explosion-inside-a-explosion-inside-a-explosion-inside-a-explosion-inside-a-explosion-inside-a-explosion-inside-a-explosion...

The main visual issue with 009 Re:Cyborg, which I assume you're still talking about, is not the CG as such but the bland art direction, typical of current Production IG sci-fi works such as Psychopass. You've got the pale skin tones, the muddy and dull color palette, and the sterile and lifeless environment design.

Watch Asura for an instructive comparison. Toei's CG film shows that art direction matters more than animation.

Oh good heavens, I've committed the crime of reposting something that was also stated earlier.

Seriously, shut the hell up, not everyone was paying attention to the thread the entire time during Otakon.

I might actually get that Btoom Blu-ray. I loved the show and I wouldn't mind having it on hand and in HD. I didn't even know that it was getting an English release until now.

Now that btoom is off my list, I'm still waiting for my Ben-To and Beelzebub in English DVD's.

Nobody said anything about reposting. It was more about Sentai taking a while to officially announcing it.

So? They always make the formal solicitations about three months ahead of time. The only difference for the December slate is that for some reason they took the time to detail the entire thing at their Otakon panel.
