I think if Ghibli wants new directors, it would be better to try to promote some of their in-house staff or look at other promising directors; Hosoda has gone big already and he can secure funding for whatever project he wants, trying to direct something under the Ghibli name would just bring a slew of unneeded expectations and pressures. It'd be better for us, too, if he just keeps doing his thing and Ghibli brings up someone else (alternatively they can stop making features altogether :p).

I know :(

This is probably the time for Ghibli to throw a bunch of other directors out there and see if they can hack it. Do a TV special for NTV or something or a direct to video collection of shorts. Miyazaki will "supervise" or write scripts for them as long as he can I'm sure.

Miyazaki's body tears open and Shinji steps out.

On the flip side, the season sets didn't even include the omakes.

Yeah I know. The releases were uneven in terms of extras.

It makes me wonder who in Ghibli's ranks is even fit to continue the legacy.

Nobody is up to the level of the two elders, but that's a given. Besides the directors they already have (Goro and Yonebayashi), Yoshiyuki Momose has worked extensively with Takahata, and was one of the two technical directors of My Neighbors the Yamadas (the other one being Osamu Tanabe, who's doing the same for the upcoming Kaguyahime). He also directed Ghiblies 2 and several little music videos the studio has done here and there.

He's pretty old though, 60+ years old. Not "fresh talent" by any means.

Alot of the Ghibli staff who have stayed are pretty old. Even Kondo, if he had lived, would be 63 this year. This is basically a studio of old men who have been working with each other for 20+ years. Moving on, let alone building a new generation, will be very difficult for the studio.

Why would he want to? He's doing fine on his own.

Absolutely none. It was what-if fanboyism on my part.

Its kind of like those great car design studios like Pininfarina and Italdesign. Once the grand master dies or retires, those he leaves behind are woefully inequipped to carry the legacy. But really, who could? Miyazaki wouldnt be so special if he was just easily replaced.

One thing that annoys me about honorifics is when you're watching a gaming conference and they invite people up on stage. Bloke A comes from Germany so welcome Mr. German. Bloke B comes from France so welcome Mr. French. Bloke C comes from Japan so welcome Japan-san. Why? What's so special about the Japanese chap? Either refer to the first two as Herr and Monsieur or call Bloke C Mr. Japan. I bet all the Wii U third party games in the world that if you went over to Japan they sure as hell won't treat you special and call you Mr. English.

You're probably right Mr English chap.

This is all the Karate Kid's fault.

Anyone else watchjng Servant x Service? It starts off slow but it's a great slice of life show in an untraditional setting (Think Working! with office workers.)

Edit: now that I think about it, I would bet these shows are by the same people. The art style is very similar

Yea, same people, I watched the first few episodes and I found the humor getting more tepid and as soon as they gave Hebse a push, I was gone.

It gets much better once they start having scenes outside the office. The characters get much better and there are some funny revelations about them

There were gifs posted on the previous page so that should answer your question. The true unwatched best show of the season is Chronicles of the Going Home Club. Not that I've exactly helped since I hardly mention it, but yeah one of the best shows of the season if you get over the very "DONDAKE!?" jokes of the first episode.

Happy Day of Birth Corvo-kun!
Well, on the other hand, leaving in honorifics is limited in the damage it does to the translation because they can all be ignored and audience usually won't miss much, provided they know they can or don't care to begin with.

Come to think of it, pronoun use issues probably come up more often, but fansubbers gleefully gloss over those!
See the other reason why honourific hate makes no sense is that given sub files are plain text using sedscript to wipe all occurrences in an episode if they really bother you that much, is only a matter of 5 minutes at most. You can't do that for general translation errors.

It's the end of a season. Pace will pick up again when Fall starts.
Kill La Kill will save AnimeGAF

See, and this is why third parties are ignoring the WiiU. This favouritism will not stand.

Reggie actually seems to be one of the few who actually calls Japanese people Mr. ABC.

Perhaps this hurt Mr. Kojima's feelings which is why he hasn't made an MGS game for Nintendo since Twin Snakes (pretty sure he wasn't involved with the 3DS version of MGS3).

Clearly this is the case.
Japanese people are obsessed with etiquette after all!

Looks like she's peeing.

You ruined this image.

More like made it even better!

That loli with long fuwafuwa hair is the best girl so far.

She has a distinct Chitanda-esque air about her, doesn't she?

I agree with this. Weaboos make a big deal about honorifics because its easy to spot but there are a ton of other things there. Plus the subs are ostensibly for a non-Japanese speaking audience. Whats the point of a localization (I realize most subbed idea aren't but bear with me) if its a grammatically cleaned up babelfish of the script?

That's an insult to babelfish! Babelfish would never leave honorifics in a translation!

Gurren Lagann 22

What the hell could possibly happen? I know the Anti-Spiral fleet is coming in full force, but...shit, how are they gonna top that?! Well it involves saving Nia, so if it's going to take grabbing the sun and flinging it at the fleet to wipe them out, Simon will fucking do it, dammit.

eheheheheh

Ending spoilers, don't read Syrinx:
When I started Gurren Lagann back in the day, basically the only thing I knew about it was ROBOTS THROWING GALAXIES AT EACH OTHER. I thought most people must know about that by now. Kind of nice to see someone watching it who obviously has no idea just how ridiculous the scale ultimately gets >.>

:( Hurts so much.

Today is my birthday!

Happy Corvoday!

Servant x Service is one of my candidates for show of the season. It would be a shoe-in if not for the existence of Gatchaman Crowds and Monogatari SS. It's so gooooooood. (Also, dat OP!)

The fact that it's by the same manga-ka as Working! and constantly gets compared to it makes me feel like I should probably check that series out at some point... (But how can it be as good without Hasebe?)

Kitakubu is good too, but I don't think it's in the same league as Servant x Service. Though the shiritori game in the most recent episode was priceless.

You should really check out Working! if you like SxS this much. There's no Hasebe, but there are other wacky/entertaining characters that you'd probably like.

Yamada is better than any character in Servant x Service, and I think you'll agree when you get around to watching Working!, especially the second season.

Anime preduction episode because why not! If only they had Kintaro working on this production instead of this monkey dolt things would have worked out a lot easier!
Another seemingly unrelated episode albeit good. With 3 episodes left I wonder what they are going to do though. We still have no real idea what's going on.

GAF was right. Now if only IGN would do an article.

I do feel that they rushed the ending. the one main criticism I have for Paranoia Agent.

I guess tickets for the Glasgow leg of SLA went on sale today, and I guess Miyaji Masayuki is doing a QA at the Glasgow screening of Fuse *shrug*
