Monogatari is low-tier in terms of SHAFT asset reuse. There were episodes in Natsu no Arashi! that seriously used like ten different backgrounds, some already repurposed from previous episodes, and somehow still made it work on the strength of the character interaction. It was like watching an animated stage play.

This is my official quarterly plea for other people to watch Natsu no Arashi! :(

I got into a discussion a while back with a friend about the dialogue found in the monogatari series and in fate/zero (surprise the anime I use for a lot of examples). Anyway, to put focus on the discussion i discussed the Snail arc in monogatari and how the dialogue in that entire arc was basically pointless. It hardly added to any character development and it wasn't anything particularly important. It was just the bantering and the back-and-forth words of a few characters. In short it felt like a conversation that two people would have in real life. While the choice may be deliberate in trying to replicate that sentiment and idea, I can't agree with this being a smart one nor a good one.

In comparison the dialogue in Fate/Zero is smart, important, and feels like every sentence uttered is crucial to building up something that culminates at a certain endpoint (the every sentence part is an exaggeration of course). Specifically the dialogue of the kings in episode 11 is very deliberate in trying to communicate the various perspectives of the kings and how they clash. It was a very deliberate way of writing that depicted a battle of words. Characters were tarnished, others uplifted and glorified and there was a sense of tension and emotions in there. The intent is there and execution is there.

Just some food for thought on how I feel about the monogatari series' writing.

My reckoning from this (and your other posts) is that you're arguing that all dialogue, characters, and events in a given work should follow a rigid structure derived from and/or informed by the most basic and accepted narrative conventions. Or to be more succinct, you value formulaic works above all and any deviation from such is a failing of some kind.

This makes you the poor man's cosmicblizzard.

bad gameplay lol
Squid Girl 10

Segment 1: Oh my god. The drawings. And the teru teru bozu. And Takeru's face at the end. I'm pretty sure this is the best segment ever.

Segment 2: Poor Sanae. ;_; Being Sanae truly is suffering.

Segment 3: Baseball. Not bad. Good to see Kiyomi isn't going to be forgotten. :D

Oh no, I agree, I'm just surprised at how shamelessly they re-use assets. They even use a shot of a loudspeaker that they used in Bakemonogatari and Maria Holic. It's pretty amazing.

Maybe it's some sort of statement about how the industry and consumer-base doesn't care about artistic integrity as long as they get what they are promised, in turn fuelling the budget-saving, risk-free practices of lazy producers and directors who don't see the point anymore.

I knew we could count on you, SHAFT!

Oh, nice. I dropped Nise halfway through, but might jump back in with these.

I really didn't like Nisemonogatari either. Nekomongoatari came out after Nise and it explores the origins of Hanekawa's oddity, so you'll need to see that before watching Monogatari Season 2. Nekomonogatari is just one OVA though, not a series.

Conversations in SAO are written horribly sure. However at least they aren't executed and written poorly like the monogatari.

I think youre way too adorable and likeable to argue seriously with little mascot kun so Ill just say fuck SAO and I respectfully disagree with you and im gonna get some sleep.
busy day ahead.
I love you all way too much and I hope Corvy kun and Rthanatos return soon.

How does that make me a poor man's cosmicblizzard? I'm not seeing the connection.

It's appropriate that the Sega analogue in this show is a useless piece of shit that doesn't want to do anything for her followers.

I think it's pretty well done for this kind of material, but it doesn't spin the drill in my heart. So I'm gonna pull the plug on it.
How unfortunate.

How can you say no?

Today we learn that people like SAO more than they're willing to admit.
More like our seal on the people who like it are failing a year in. We need more suppression.

You are doing something horribly wrong.

Holy shit at the dub. That might be too much.

The beast. THE BEAST!
You chose wisely.

So I see that while I was away the fire-bombing of Dresden begun.

If SAO discussion kept a person from looking at child porn, would it be the lesser evil of the two?
Logically speaking, if SAO is to be considered worse than Child Porn, they if people engage in SAO instead it's still the worse of 2 evils logically speaking!

I...I don't even know who you are anymore, kayos.

You think it's great and executed well? That's perfectly fine with me. However, I think it's terrible. I feel like many of the pieces of dialogue in that stupid arc could've happened at any time and it wouldn't have mattered at all. It just reeks of stuff that the author thought, "Oh hey i'm just gonna make them talk about whatever pops into my head and whatever I make them feel like talking about. Yeah! It'll sound authentic and real like real life!" except it feels so random that I can't help but call it anything but lazy drivel. Is there intent? Sure. Is the intent good and is the execution good? No.

Oh my gosh. We'll never know how Corvo's review of Madoka ends ):

and I lost a good friend. Maaann

Edit: RIP thanatos. Snow Miku rests eternally now

Clearly we're going to need a lengthy wordy post on what this actually means in order to have intellectual conversation when in reality we could say it in two sentences at the most.

Verbosity is still preferable to having no substance whatsoever!

I feel like some people's perception and views of SAO are so unbelievably skewed and mangled that everything in comparison to it stands to be better. That's how it's coming across to me. It's not like I'm denying SAO is bad. SAO is really bad. lol. Pretty sure we stand on common ground in this respect.

I just love/hate how polarizing Sword Art Online is. Some people treat it like it beat their mom or something. I just think it's a stupid bad show with a few good moments.

Or maybe you didn't enjoy it. Whatever, fans of it are still going to be fans and vice versa.

I'm going to shave my head and live as a monk in quiet contemplation until I can get more people to watch Natsu no Arashi! by saying that it's legit good than I got to watch Max Heart by warning that it's shit.

I've been seeing the head shaving thing being mentioned a lot on twitter and I just read it elsewhere on GAF. Did something happen recently in relation to this?

I don't get how you can even compare SAO to Monogatari though. It's like comparing Twilight to a David Mamet play.

I'll go do it just to prove you wrong.
lol, please do. :p
Actually, I'd rather people watch Tamayura or Aria before Natsu no Arashi (sorry Mad Pierrot).

You're wrong about the first episode of Arashi anyway, so who cares what you think! NYAH.

What if you just dyed your eyelashes?

Too dangerous, I might become a narcissist.

Need more screencaps.

I guess you can't get a hype train going without a conductor.

Still, it's basically the most cursed hype (ghost) train
twofold pun aww yeahhhh
that I can think of:

"guys, I know how much AnimeGAF loves Soredemo and vaunts it as the best SHAFT show that nobody watched! Well here's another!"

"guys, it's by the director of Dusk Maiden of Amnesia and it's another supernatural romcom! It's basically two more seasons of that show you all really liked!"

"firehawk likes it too, and he's one of the designated GOOD TASTE guys!"

It has Omigawa as a reverse you-know-what!

nothing.

"it's adapted from a manga by the School Rumble guy!"

Somebody watches an episode and hates it.

Clearly, you need to post naked pictures. Whether that is a reward or a threat is up to you!

It's so bomba that there are no naked pictures to even post.

What I can do, though, is threaten to PM naked pictures of myself to anyone in the thread who doesn't supply periodic proof that they're watching the show.

I swear this girl was brunette first time we met her.
The Amazoness Quartet is no Amazon Trio in terms of likability, but I like the angle Ikuhara is going for here with them being
either a) children reaching puberty who remain in denial to grow up or b) gymnast adults with a childish mentality
. It's a theme that shows up later a lot in this guy's shows, and even Enokido's later writing duties. If pointless sexual/religious imagery is :gainax then this stuff is :ikuhara.

Some great animation, too, but I particularly loved seeing
the confrontation between Vesves(?) and Zirconia
. It's actually a very different dynamic from what the show has shown in 150 episodes yet, the closest being whatshiface and Demando at the end of R but that was more about set-ups within set-ups and what not.

Wait a minute...
Toei you FUCKS!
