Take the following data (from previously known information that has been making the rounds since long ago, and adjusted recently) as a basis for comparisons, and add to it all sonicmj1 & zulux21 already said:
Witnessing Robin display these comedic facial expressions is just too weird. She has been portrayed to be a stone faced individual with a dark sense of humor for so long that it feels kind of awkward for Oda to change it up with her. Like, half of me likes the change, while the other half is like "What are you doing to her?!" :lol
This is a very important point that is often missed by people who complain about Aniplex/NISA pricing. Those companies are usually pretty good about getting their shows out on streaming services, so if you just want to watch the show you can easily do that without paying anything. If you like a show enough to want to pony up for discs, then you'll have to pay the premium price for that. I think that's the best business model at this moment for what is, after all, a niche hobby.
I will say though, I'd prefer if these editions were more substancial for that price to be comparacle to what western releases give you for $70, or at least that they went with more content, (interviews commentaries and things that are interesting to watch/own) rather than useless trinkets.
I think his point is that he doesn't really care for watching them in this way which, eh I can kinda sympathize with given you'd have to pay me to use their service with how bad it was.
anyways a lot of JP releases have dubs included too. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/...hl=en_US#gid=2 a lot of the Aniplex USA releases that are just the JP discs usually have the dubs if they were made, like Baccano or Gurren Lagann or Durarara off the top of my head
Right. For Aniplex it's really a question of timing. Take Fate/Zero for instance. The US release was just the JP release that came out day 1. Then they did a cheaper dub version later down the line. They can't give you a dub if one doesn't exist.
It amazes me that bluray "won" the format war yet still DVD dominates sales and lots of things dont make it to bluray. How is it still so expensive to make them? Why is there no subsidy for a winning format or something?
DVD doesn't really dominate sales at all though. The reason why some anime companies and it really is just Anime companies and shitty budget/kid movie releases, is twofold. Authoring for BDs is still not cheap, while it's been getting cheaper in some areas that may or may not help some release companies. For releases that don't really break a lot of copies at all and aren't really expensive this is too risky for these companies. The second is that doing DVD/BD means you need to author both versions as well as take all the cost for both. You also need to allocate stock appropriately. Then the reasoning is thus. If you are only going to do one, they go with the cheaper one that everyone can buy. Though I should note that BD only is also something other companies do now.
As for a subsidy? This isn't a contest. It's literally 2 products in the market with one failing. If anything, there were subsidies but they were only to try and push one format over the other to studios, once only 1 is standing there is no point. It's actual studios making money that'd be bribed anyhow.
Years of unique and irreplaceable insight into innumerable works, just gone.
I never realized how much I needed to have a mentor who could enrich a viewing experience with an encyclopedic knowledge of its every dimension that I could have absolute trust in. I'll never again share in that mutual validation when I arrive at the same kind of appreciation for something that he held. He was my rock in this hobby.
Watched both Giovanni's Island and Tales of Princess Kaguya courtesy of the MIFF (Melbourne International Film Festival) and both were pretty damn great, the former being interesting in the context of what's currently happening in Gaza and what has been happening since the 1950s and is a nice little film without that extra context.. now Kaguya on the other hand was fucking incredible from start to finish, just damn, it's such a strong feminist text and has all those awesome touches that only Takahata could accomplish.
Will try and write some more detailed reviews later when I get time.. got a assignment due tomorrow.
Is this a new code or the same old one. You need to start a tourney at a better time so I can join in. When the update rolls in we can have a Mercedes-Benz tournament.
Finally have some time to just chill and watch anime. Decided to continue Kinmoza because I had no idea what else to watch. Seriously I love the engrish in the show. It's so awesome.
I'm certainly not going to complain about them finding the most bullshit reason to make her naked, but whatever it was some nice eyecandy to say the least.

Mascot contest is now! Bit of a dry episode overalll for me, doesn't make me think less of the series as a whole though. Wonder if they'll ever figure out she's their stalker or will it just be a running gag?
Quite a few touching episodes in this portion. Honestly nothing negative I can really say about this series. While I thought it would get annoying at first I actually like they fact that haven't gotten rid of the transformation sequences. Pop has grown on me as well. I also think episode 17 was the first time all three were on screen during the transformation sequence as will.
Well it's been months since I've started this show and quit so I thought that I sure give it another go.
Just my luck! It's an arc about Shinobu! ....And it starts with a boring dialogue about skeletons and slugs... Not exactly a great way to begin an arc but at least the dialogue ends on a good note. Hachikuji is sooo cuute <3 Anyway, immediately after their conversation
they are attacked by some weird darkness monster thing and Ononoki kisses Araragi after saving him.
I thought this was supposed to be about Shinobu! Well, at least she shows up at the end. I am very satisfied with what happens during her appearance.
Well I guess I'll finish the rest of it later. Time for some sleep.

It could be more episodes, I'm just going by what I recall reading. I've never seen the old one and I'm enjoying it. I have read quite a few volumes of the manga though, so I was already a fan.
feels kinda weird having some australian dude try and (poorly) put on their best american accent :worthington
other than that, five's intro was really well done and this shows down a bangup job on weaving the kids motivations together while shibazaki slowly pieces it together
I also pasted the instructions to enable Japanese in the game if you wanted to actually go through the whole game yourself. There's a tiny part of me that wonders if Sawashiro sings "Will the Circle be Unbroken", but not enough to want to slog through the game again... but if someone else is game, please let me know.
Incidentally, it's the first time I've been able to play a game localized into Japanese. The voice acting seems good, I think?

Killua has some extremely creepy eyes when he want to reveal them as such. Another training episode, but it looks like the next episode should open up a little bit. Gon has to fight someone!
Yeh, was a nice interlude. Kinda interesting that the sister's face isn't shown, shrouds her more in mystery which is somewhat fitting.
This is also one of the rare anime episodes where I wouldn't call the camera framing and focus on a girls bust, waistline and below as fanservice. That's because it's always (I think) obviously out of Hotaros' perspective and has plenty relevancy. Overall the episode gave a good look at the characters and their relationships, the one between Hotaro and Chitanda being especially interesting/weird.
That said, some of the earlier shots when Hotaro's sister is showering/drying herself off were framed in the more usual manner iirc. Well, still without showing her face I guess.
edit:
The relation between Hotaro and his sister is also quite something. They're so different and she exerts some kind of authority over him, which I guess already showed earlier, looking at how he followed her 'orders' of forming/joining the Classic Club.

I think she's not shown because she's more of a force of nature than a character. She is basically responsible for the two biggest arcs of the series, not counting the fact that she makes Oreki join the club in the first place.

That entirely depends on which definition of nerd you are insinuating. If you are calling me foolish or contemptible person then I am neither. Nor am I boringly studious, which in some ways is a big fault of mine. I never really liked to study.
However, if you suggesting I am an intelligent individual with a certain expertise a particular field, then yes I am.
