What's the consensus on Space Dandy? Decided that of the anime I've missed over the last few years, that'll be the first one I watch.

Some really good episodes, but mostly disappointing to me.

Still worth watching. Never bothered with season 2, though.

I'm looking forward to watching Zankyou no Terror.

I think the general consensus is favorable.

I'm much more mixed about it, though. For as many ways as it's unique and flashy and cool and interesting, it's also just as blatant, bland, cliché, and obvious.

There are maybe three or four episodes I would care to rewatch.

I second this!

That's kinda how I felt about season 1, but I thought season 2 was a significant upgrade for the most part.

As you should. It was fantastic.

There just wasn't enough bullshit fan service and moe for some people, though, hahaha.

It's pretty well written with good characters. The plot hits some annoying clichés, though, but the atmosphere, the score, and most of the characters more than make up for it. It's also beautiful.

Well, fate is all starting to settle in now for poor Mitsuki and everything is all coming down on her at once. So many moments, so many feels. It really is tough watching a little girl die even if it’s in an anima; maybe it’s a paternal thing, but still. Damn…. They try to really sugar coat it, but like Isla, you know it's inevitable what’s going to happen in the end. That eternal snow song, is just so sad and beautiful at the same time and they play it and play it more. So much passion and emotion in it and the RL artist has an amazing voice which emhances the effect it has... Then they have the old man sing as the jerk Shinigami Izumi comes to take his soul, right in from of Mitsuki, on purpose to prove a point and add a reminder that her time is coming.... I lost it right there; It goes from an amazingly touching moment with the old man to saddness in an instant . Screw life and that bastard Izumi. They also made you feel bad for Madoka… Either way, The whole feel and atmosphere of the show has changed as they close in on the end of Mitszuki's life. The background music, the tone, the way everything is playing out. Uggh, such background despair and sadness… I'd be lying if I said I haven't had to stop and take a deep breath several times over the last few episodes and I still have 15 or so more to go.... I have a feelign that bastard Izumi is going to be the one to take her away instead of Meroko and Takuto....

My goodness, this is a good time to break get some lunch and smoke a butt when even they have what should be a happy moment for her just doesn't feel right....

uggh. Uggh, uugghh…

Oh, really? That's certainly interesting, I guess I'll have to watch it now.

I thought it was absolutely great, but some folks here seem to think the exact opposite.

Sounds good, it being on Netflix certainly helps, it's probably the most attractive choice there to me, so when I'm wasting time on Netflix, I'll start watching it.

My goodness this is so harsh and sad to watch. Yuki's mental illness will be a focus I'm sure, but damn... that was a great episode, just harsh as hell for sure... In general, never mess with a chick carrying a shovel...

It still varied a lot from episode to episode, but I found that there were more good ones in S2 than in S1.

Not joking, and it's not a legitimate complaint, so I dismiss it.

Nope.

You're the first I've ever seen here on GAF saying that people didn't like it for the lack of fanservice. Meanwhile just a while ago we mentioned how god damn laughable the writing was at times, for instance
the entire EMP bomb ordeal.

As far as characters are concerned, Five was not only terrible but downright pointless in the show. Worse though, there was very little to empathize within the main cast, too. The whole narrative was a mess to be honest.

There were a bunch of very well directed sequences and the visuals were nice too. Soundtrack was strong as well. But all that I can only value so much in a crappy story.

I'm liking the balance between the moe and the "seriousness" for now, though I hope the latter is taking a more active role the further we go. It's funny how the two are linked together. I feel bad for Yuki.
Shovel's encounter was interesting in terms of how she copes with the current situation, as shown with the "fog". I think this show is very interesting and I'm intrigued to see more.

It is going to be tough watching her is she continues to completely break down throughout the season. She acts like a completely kluts and cutie, but we all know it's an extreme case of PTSD and maybe some schizophrenia in there as well... Shovel girl looks on the brink as well

Yeah, in general, the little girl has cancer and is visited by shinigami that tell her she has 1 year to live. Her dream was to become a singer so that her first love can "hear" her so the shinigami help heracheive her dreams, so she will give up her spirit to them when the time comes. Thre is a lot of SoL filler in this, but the tone has recently switched, so it's getting to the endzone here...

Dropped it 3-4 episodes ago. I wasn't enjoying the absurdness from the start, and it never got actually interesting as I thought it would since the third episode.

Fear the shovel. And the delusional girl with her imaginary teacher. But mostly the shovel. A nice look at how everyone else tries to keep them alive day to day.

This sounds exactly like what I was looking for after finishing Plastic Memories. I may have to start watching this soon. Perhaps after I've finished Kitakubu.

No I mean when people have actual complaints and other people just dismiss them and attribute something like "You really just want more fanservice".
There are legitimate complaints to be made. I even mentioned some myself. I just give very little credence to the complaints of people who traffic in those crowds.
You're the first I've ever seen here on GAF saying that people didn't like it for the lack of fanservice. Meanwhile just a while ago we mentioned how god damn laughable the writing was at times, for instance

Oh, you're one of those people who needlessly feels as though you should "empathize" with characters.

Sorry, that's not how media work. Anyone can write a character any average person can "empathize with" and "relate to." It takes actual skill to write a character the audience can learn to understand even if the character is unlikable. The show developed its characters through traits and dialogue. It didn't lean on exposition as a lot of anime do. It also didn't strong arm the audience into liking its characters as a lot of anime do. For some people, that's an issue. But it's irrelevant from a critical standpoint.

As I said, there were problems with plot, but you must not know what narrative is if you think it was a mess. Plot and narrative are two separate things just like plot and story. Hell, I could even break down the different types of narrative, and they'd all be fairly low on or absent from the "problems" list.

I actually didn't know plot and story were so different, would you mind to elaborate a little bit? That's quite interesting to me.

Good stuff!

Blood C I'm mildly okay with. Arjuna makes me want to pollute the earth in spite.

Need some Another up in that

There is ASMR thread that pops up in OT now and again. And considering that those videos consist of watching people get their haircut and roleplay and touch objects and God only knows what else all for the sake of feeling tingly, a pillow husband anime is probably right up that alley, lmao.

Lol Arjuna is some grade A enviro fuckery. Its so good bad.
Both shows arent quite done yet!

to lo ve-ru 2 is like legit porn whjat the fuck

like ive actually seen porn withj more plot than thjis show rofl

TLRU is pretty much borderline. They fly as close to the sun as possible without burning the wings off. Of note that threshold is MUCH higher than Gaf allows.

dawwwww
I reallyl ike this comic

hey!

my friend writes/draws that!

Give them my praise then!

Man. MAL streaming anime. What's the world coming to?

Of course Anime Planet has done this for a while. Not that anyone cares about anime planet :)

Wait what? Seriously? With what funds?

It's beautiful. Thank you.

Every time I think about starting a manga/anime collection, I end up going digital or streaming to save money and space.

Yeah you will definitely use a lot of both to amass a collection. But theres nothing quite like having a physical collection either. Its so satisfying.

Honestly this season has been such a wash on that front.

I would say Wakaba Girl has the OP of the season.

Hnnnnnng
Not quite #1. I would say UImaru is the best!

Umaru-chan easily the best OP so far.

Minty my bro!

"Borderline hentai" is really fun, though. Most of the times people bring that term up they meaen "why not just read/watch hentai instead?", but it's a very different experience. It's all about the tease, the build up, and since it never gets quite there, you can actually care about the characters too (never read/watched To Love-Ru though, so maybe it doesn't apply here). Kiryuu-sensei is legit adorable, I wouldn't relate to a hentai character like this.

What's the consensus on Space Dandy? Decided that of the anime I've missed over the last few years, that'll be the first one I watch.

It's really hit or miss in S1, has some amazing episodes in S2. Worth watching.

These last two episodes were way more serious. I'm guessing next episode will be more Nancy aiiiieeeeeeee~

Yeah, I thought it was pretty awesome, but you should know, there's not much I don't think is great, so admittedly, I may not be the best judge on quality. I've enjoyed (to varying degrees) basically every anime I've ever watched in my life. Well, except for Rail Wars. That is without a doubt, complete trash.

Thats a great attitude to have actually. With very few exceptions its how I experience anime. It also helps that I know exactly what I will like before I go into it.
Maybe its a seventh sense hehee. The anime sense!

Ushio to Tora would like to have a word with you

A good one, and a classic sound, but nah I would put it third at best.

My vote.

So extreme and cool, I can't get those shit-eating grin enough.

BTW Still undisputed best ED

No way. Soma beats everything! Fuwa fuwa fuwa fuwaaaaa

The last few episodes were pretty good watching the plot play-out and the mystery of it all was pretty good. (Although, I called it early, lol) However, the presentation and tone didn't match the content in my opinion. There was some funny moments, some cute moments adn definately a lot of ecchi stuff early on. Either way, for being another "harem$hit" anime, it kept me entertained throughout. Oh and it had a typical harem anime ending.... blahhhh. Best girl never wins..

Have you seen OniAi? I dont remember.
Guheh guheheheheheheh

Man, Full Moon is going to be the death of me by the time I finish this... I can't...

Awww *pat pat
Youll be alright!

For someone returning to anime it might be a pretty good choice. It is kinda bizarre sometimes.

While looking up Ninja Slayer, I found out there's a Ninja Scroll TV series. Where the hell have I been, and how did I not know about this? Is it just as crazy as the movie?

This is a lot better than I thought it would be from my first post of impressions. Although parts are pretty gross, the last couple episodes have been awesome: I really like the Risn episode, even though, she is an ancillary character to the story at this point, but it was a good one, then seeing Rider's ability was awesome as well. He is my 2nd favorite character as of right now, Saber is still #1, but those two are hand in hand right now. The action is fluid, the world is well made and use of music is excellent to build tension and mood in the series.. Oh and I really hope Caster and his master are the first ones to go; there is no reason for them to be there... Bastards..

Just because this guy is awesome..
