It can't be stated enough, but the art on display in this show is stunning.

Bakemonogatari 9

These drawings, reaction faces and expressions are killing me. Kanbaru's ol' pervy ass is awesome.

Bakemonogatari 10

Jesus Christ, Araragi
stay getting his ass beat
for the sake of others. It's really great that he cares so much about helping people, but man, he's pretty much just a
paranormal punching bag
at this point.

"Don't be mistaken with whom you're supposed to save!" is a pretty powerful line, I think. It's something Araragi needed to hear, but at the same time, I understand
why he wants to prevent these oddities from hurting anyone else; even those who brought about these things because they wanted to hurt or spite
others. It's kind of a "between a rock and a hard place" position, but it shows how good a person Ara is.

Also, the whole
"exorcising" section of this episode, and the fight with snake
was intense as hell.
I'm glad the childhood friend made out okay.

Edit:
Sound like Berserk.
Haha, I could definitely see how that sounds like Berserk now. It didn't even cross my mind how similar that description was.

Great show ! Rewatched first few episodes recently and they were better than I remembered.
Awesome! I'm gonna try and watch it sometime soon.

The
snake fight
and the bit where Araragi gets
swung around by his intestines
are honestly my favourite parts of the show, but especially the
snake fight
because it's just so tense to watch. I would have liked it if there were more moments like that.

Idolm@ster Cinderella Girls 14

Uhhh, I didn't really expect an episode about ghost stalkers as the first episode of the new season but sure why not. More Ranko and Anastasia though, so it's good

Poser Rock idoru gets blown the fuck out by actual Rock Idoru so that was good. Are they going to beat the producer lady with the power of songs about glass slippers?

Oh yeah,
that fight with the intestinal helicopter
was insane, and awesome. And yeah, the
snake fight
is crazy tense.

If you're watching Bake on CR, there are a couple episodes missing at the end.

Welcome to NHK 9 (NHK ni Youkoso!) ep.8-15:
Man, some pretty powerful moments built into this series. The whole cliff scene and afterwords was damn intense stuff. Why would you go with the flow initially, then buy-in and go for it? Now he's trying to make some loot selling items in online gaming... damn WoW parody, lol. The show is moving in a different direction with this this arc though...

Gate ep 3
Dragon = fucking rekt. Fuck yeah modern weaponry!!

Despite Itami being a Otaku that people gave him shit about, he wasn't interested in elf girl and didn't like goth girl sitting on his lap...or maybe he still waiting for a cat girl.

Rory > Elf Girl > Mage girl for now.

Come on, that's the standard harem/ecchi trope, girls making advances and somehow the MC refusing and preserving his purity because... uh... dunno.
Though in this case at least he isn't a virgin.

Prison School 02

I said the pace was fine in the first ep, here I started to notice that well, yeah, it's a bit too fast. Not by a lot, but there were a pair of scenes that they would been funnier just putting a few seconds of still silence (like when the president and the chairman meet in the hallway) or more tense just increasing their length by a few seconds (the final scene).

So I'm guessing the Prison School anime is definitely aiming to get to the part where the boys are finally released.

So they aren't gonna slow down for any of the episodes if that's their destination. At least it will be enjoyable for the insane comedy moments.

So, I Can't Play H! ep2-6:

tumblr_m76hpnuNeQ1rao0vlo1_500.gif

First off, don't bother with the stream of this; only watch if you have the Blu-Ray version and you really like ecchi stuff. It's maddening when you try to watch a battle scene and half the action is full of black bars and light marks. Seriously, it's not hentai Crunchy...
With that aside, the story has been pretty interesting and the action pretty cool, so there's that as well. The whole pervyness thing is kind of dying down now that he is building a small harem and the plot is progressing in a differnt direction. It's unfortunate that yet again, the childhood friend is the best character but as always she won't win, lol. Oh well, I'll pick back up on this at some point. It was a "close my eyes" and hit play pick yesterday anyway...

Hmmm I was considering watching this show but your description of it has made me think its pretty skippable.

YES

I've lost Faith [Stay Night] in Ufotable. The days of Fate Zero are long gone, and the KnK movie was nothing but pandering and unnecessary crap. They're going down the KyoAni way of by pure fucking chance choosing ONE really good source material to make an anime with, but their plan the whole time was to adapt trash.

Ufotable has some fun stuff in their history. I first knew about them from the Ova Aoi Umi no Tristia, but they have made occasional other things. Ufotable was never a powerhouse studio to begin with. FZ is their best work to date and they would have to reach a pretty high bar to top that.

Welcome to NHK 9 (NHK ni Youkoso!) ep1-7:

OK, this is a good one. The guy is a total shut-in and is trying to break outta the cycle by getting "counciling" by an amatuer girl. OK, the guys just a weirdo that thiks everything is a conspiracy, and the daydreams/dreams of that are hilarious. The poor guy is also trying to write a script for a game to do something. All these situations are funny and sad at the same time....

NHK is so good. SO GOOD. I literally have to marathon it every time I watch it, which has been at least six times by my count. Its in my top 20 all time for sure. Misaki is EXTREMELY cute, but people tell me she was a druggie and pretty unhinged in the manga. I can see why she would be but I like her more innocent anime persona.

You are confusing the late-night anime market with productions that are made differently. Shows like Log Horizon, Fullmetal Alchemist, Haikyu, and the new Gundam show are made to run in primetime timeslots via TV station input and are made to appeal to a broader audience. Those tend not to have a lot of the less desireable elements in them. Depending on how big of an influence the TV station has on the production, they may be made as an entertainment source rather than to push a product.

Shows like Space Dandy, OreImo, Fate/Stay Night, and nearly most of what gets discussed in this thread and many other forums are essentially infomercials made to push some type of product, whether that is a video game (God Eater), light novel (anything from Dengeki), video disc (Madoka), merchandise (anything waifu/husbando), manga (Kodansha/Shueisha), or anything else. They have an audience in mind that buys these items and so they have to include elements to appeal to them. This is why shows like K-On! and Euphonium had to hype the main four girls: to market to that type of audience despite the shows appealing to a broader audience.

TV stations in Japan have seen dramas obtain higher ratings than animated content, thus primetime is devoted to live-action content. Anime shows used to air around these times, but once higher ratings came about for (relatively cheaper) shows, the medium was essentially forced into this production committee/infomercial type. There are a few stations that produce anime, but they're fewer than the other type. Additionally, the TV stations are asking for more of the revenue to be a sponsor. This is why shows like Sailor Moon Crystal and Digimon Tri had to be made in alternative formats (web episodes/OVA films respectively). Toei did not want to sacrifice additional revenue for popular franchises to TV Asahi/Fuji respectively.

There are different types of anime much like there are different types of broadcasts outside Japan. Painting all of it with the "pandering" brush is inaccurate, though it applies to a subset of the medium.

Japan has become the experts of peddling materialistic goods to the masses. I fall for it hook line and squeaker.

GATE episode 03

This is a better and pretty good episode compare to first 2, and all 3 girls finally showed up.

Rori>Elf>Mage.

Gate ep 3
Dragon = fucking rekt. Fuck yeah modern weaponry!!

Rory > Elf Girl > Mage girl for now.

My intuition strikes once again!

But really its a simple formula of "gothic lolita > x"

That is a pretty cool hat. Simple yet effective. Not sure how I feel about the ring yet, but I can accept it for now.
I guess I have a thing for over-design as I still slightly prefer the one in bikini warriors, with the plumpness and decoration, as well with the dash of purple on the inside and the theme (crescent moon, stars etc).

The show is alright I guess. Didn't care much for the first two but I did get excited by the giant dragon in this episode.
Like this was an actual dragon, not some wyvern shit (I'm looking at you elder scrolls). This'll do for my fantasy boner for now.

I think it just feels awkward because the women are basically cartoon feminazis that MRA people like to make fun of. It's like womynism exaggerated past the parody line.

Yeah kind of. The second half is way better at getting past that and turning the three into actual characters. The first half (what this will cover) is more in it to be ridiculous and funny. The second half is also ridiculous and funny but I still haven't come up with a way to explain it in my mind because it's too next level

Well, there's this bit where that one girl catches the principal with porn (or not even porn but gravure shots because this is Japan where Maxim is lewd) and it's supposed an example of how men are failures in this universe. But it just sounds like what people who don't understand this thread think feminists must think about sexuality and female bodies. I suppose there's supposed to be some measure of hypocrisy because of all the Kana stuff, but it just makes the already alien premise feel flimsy to me.

Prison School is this odd combination of ugly sex comedy and a kind of perverted extreme feminism that only exists in an MRA dystopia. After two episodes, I still don't get it.
It's an exaggerated portrayal of adolescent male attitudes about sex. The boys know they want female contact, but girls are still impossibly unapproachable and mysterious creatures to them. They have to find their outlet in whatever way they can.

The Underground Student Council are less evil straw feminists and more the larger-than-life gatekeepers standing between them and what they want: the merest glimpse of the forbidden fruit.

It's (a certain form of) the teenage male sexual experience taken to the extreme, and all the exaggerated attitudes there are what make it funny.

I thought it was sad! Yeah on paper it sounds ridiculous but I thought Imagawa did a good job with its execution.

I mean that arc is about
the hero's younger brother learning about who his mother is and that she killed his father. It's also about him learning about the first love of his life being a robot made to defeat his brother's beloved robot.

He's then forced to watch Mazinger Z brutally take her down. Like, it's silly, I get it. But I thought the whole heaviness of that episode with the head of the girl robot and the devilish imagery of Mazinger Z was really well done.

The again, it doesn't really matter in the long run I suppose. I'm still enjoying your impressions and I'm very interested to see what you have to say on the rest of the show as this point and onwards is where things really start to get crazy.

Her face was plastered over a belly of an already ridiculous mecha design. You can't expect me to take anything seriously after that point. ;p And her sappy backstory was shoved down my throat 30 seconds earlier. Beside that, she lacked screen time to make me care and her relationship with her father is non-existent for the viewer. It really doesn't take much to move me but if that was truly a genuine attempt at it and not a parody then they botched it.

I don't think I get Prison Scool's humor. But then again, I'm not really into comedy. I also thought the panty mask anime thing was boring as shit.

All I experienced from Prison School though were the first episode of the anime and the equivalent manga chapters. It just did nothing for me.

The vice-president looks much better in the manga though. The male leads are fine in the anime, and so is sumo girl.

I guess I'm wondering if I'm supposed to laugh at the female characters for being extreme or for being "wrong"? Should I even laugh at them since there is at least a kernel of truth in what they believe? Especially when the text they find themselves in emphasizes their physical attractiveness (but also paradoxically a lack of sexuality)? If I as a viewer is supposed to find them titillating, am I proving the point of these characters? Should I be locked up in some strange program that punishes men for expressing sexual desire?
Is it supposed to be funny because of the irony of these women's supposed puritanism is juxtaposed with not only their appearance, but with the physical pleasure that they give the male characters whenever they violently punish them?

I don't know why I can turn my brain off for something crappy like Monster Girls, but perhaps it's a good thing about the show that it's actually making me think about the actual process of watching it.

Justified gif. Heh.
For what it's worth, I mean aesthetically anyway rather than morally.

I'd say PS gets really good when the escape plan and trying to carry it out starts up. It's basically Prison Break.
but good.
Do give it a bit longer, especially the manga before dropping it.

If you have drawn a female with breasts so big she should not be able to walk upright, you have made a mistake.

The way I see it is the VP is similar to Bayonetta where almost every fetish imaginable was crammed onto one character (BDSM, Huge breasts, long legs, short skirt, glasses, beauty mark, high heels) in a way that makes it seem grotesque.

Now in One Piece, Oda must just really like huge breasts and hourglass figures

Prison School - 02

I didn't laugh nearly as much as I did with the first episode, but I still really enjoy the crazy bizarre situations and reaction faces.
Stache dude looks like he'll be a real bro. So far I like yours truly the best out of the bunch, this dude is a blast.

Oh, alright, it's not their fault then. Still a shame, she looks much better at the beginning of the manga. And I don't mean it in a BIG BOOBS ARE BAD kind of way, she just looks hotter.

Hana is the complete opposite, though, from what I've seen. She was really improved designwise, and the manga is so well drawn, I'm not sure the anime will have the budget to look nearly as good as the manga does.

Oh, I will, it's worth watching for the reaction faces alone. :p

This was great, though the pacing is medium fast, I don't really mind. The comedy moments have retained most of their essence from the manga. Next week comes one of the moments I've been waiting the most since the anime was announced
Gakuto's sacrifice
.

I suppose you should laugh at the exaggeration of everything: the exaggerated physical violence, the sexual comedy, the exaggerated libido of all the boys (and Hana, too!), the convoluted situations, the exaggerated manner of speech (the chinese history otaku), even the exaggerated faces (Andre).

But you know, when you need to explain a comedy, it means it really wasn't fun. Someone can try to explain it, but then he actively makes it not as fun.
It just means the humor wasn't for you.

That had me crying for like 30 minutes straight

Well the three girls finally show themselves, really hope this doesn't fall for the harem trope as the show is going strong thus far (get fucked dragon). Axe girl so far is the only annoying character so far.

I really can't wait to get home and watch the glorious nippon technology obliterate a dragon.

I hope it's actually a close fight. The military destroying the medieval army is fun, but for more personal fights like this, not having any challenge would be boring.

EDIT: Damn, Soma is out too! Fridays are packed.

For me Fridays are easy, Soma and Classroom Crisis only. The latter may be dropped soon, they have to convince me within the next 2 episodes.

My Saturdays however are a fucking chaos:

-Durarara
-Charlotte
-Working!!!
-Rokka no Yuusha
-Shimoneta

Can't remember the last season in which I had so much stuff to watch in one day. I pretty much get home from work, shower, make dinner, watch the stuff and go to bed to go to work the next day.

Well, I think because it's dealing with gender I instinctively want to see if there's a political position that the show takes or the author is trying to make.

I mean, Melissa Leo won an Emmy a couple of years ago for a role where her character basically rapes Louis CK on his show and it was honestly just as confusing but also wildly amusing. That whole scene was very much a comment on the expectations of gender when it comes to sex, and how men don't consider women as beings with sexual desire, so it was absurd, grotesque, and funny at the same time.

Yep I feel like Prison School is in good hands.

It reminds me of last year with Ping Pong, where Mizushima is the perfect director to adapt Akira Hiromoto's well regarded source material as was Yuasa being the perfect director to adapt Taiyou Matsumoto's well regarded source material.

Soma 15
This new opening not showing or hinting at a certain character gives us a good idea of where this season will be ending. Also did not expect her to be the focus of the new ending....
