Joker Game by Production I.G

The character designs look great. Judging by the PV it looks a bit interesting. I wonder how the spy thing will work out.

Prepare for a huge slab of mediocrity for about 5 episodes.

I honestly didn't dislike the first five episodes. It was pretty decent as comedy and getting me to know the various characters and it did have some interesting emotional moments. The second half is promised to be different, but it's not like the more episodic stuff in episodes 2-5 was bad.

When even the writer admits things would be "slow" until the sixth episode I think it is safe to say there was a problem with the writing and pacing of said episodes.

Slow isn't the same as bad. I don't see it as that different from any other Key series.

Yea, sorry, it all just runs together in a stream of samey blandness. I know there was character development over the course but I wouldn't say it justified the use of about half the series.

Another four episodes down and my love for this show goes on. Some really funny moments are had in all four of these episodes, par for the course with the series really however one moment in episode 9 in particular had me in stitches. Had to actually pause the episode for a few seconds.
Episode 9 in general is a fun one with plenty of good looking women and silly Cobra antics. Nachi Nozawa does a phenomenal job with voicing Cobra, just a really funny performance that helps elevate the show even further. A heart to heart is had in episode 10 after a long chase sequence like one that you'd see in a 007 film. Skiing through some pipes (full of neon lights, why not it looks cool!) before traveling down a snowy mountain at 300 km/h makes for some cool action scenes, who'd have thought! It gets emotional but in typical Cobra fashion the show still manages to make you smile. Cobra has a super advanced computer that he controls by playing music on a piano, obviously. Another great episode.

As you can probably tell by the many screens I've posted, Space Cobra has a very painterly aesthetic which is expected since this is a Dezaki series. However unlike other Dezaki series, Space Cobra can be very psychedelic at times. The juxtaposition between bright, rainbow-esque colors and the deep blacks that encompass the endless abyss of space makes for an eye catching presentation that meshes well with the series.

Episode 11 and 12 concludes this arc so it's a great place to end for the night. A pretty fun duo of episodes with plenty of make believe. It was very fun although I hope that this isn't the end of his alliance with Dominique. The preview for episode 13 looks great too so I can't wait to dig in tomorrow! To cap off, some postcard memories.

I see where you're coming from, but I thought it was fine personally. Again, it's the Key pattern I mentioned earlier. They're trying to get you to know the characters so that you care about them and they usually do that in a more lighthearted fashion. In terms of development:

Ep. 1: establishes Yuu, Nao, Joujirou, Ayumi
Ep. 2: establishes Nao's backstory
Ep. 3: establishes Yusa, Misa and their backstory
Ep. 4-5: the actually useless comedic episodes (which were still entertaining in their own right, IMO...there's some development of all the characters in here, too, but nothing too major)
Ep. 6: the plot begins in earnest
Ep. 7: I don't think anyone's complaining about this one

The edge.
MC being an asshole again like the first episode was so entertaining though.

Yeah,
mental instability and the onset of insanity
will do that to a person. Nao is the savior. On why she made that comment on humanity:

of he was coked out he could not be able to control his power and would likely lose his mind and body doing it

The preview for this episode on Episode 3 made this quite possibly the best fakeout ever. Jesus christ, that was awesome.

Did the plot actually begin in episode 6? It introduces a twist out of nowhere and shocking enough to change a character's behavior for all of one episode before returning to the status quo, but there's still no actual plot to speak of. Scientists are still just invisible boogeymen and the mysterious students are still unexplained. The overall behavior and goals of the student council remain unchanged.

I mean, there's still half the anime left for stuff to happen, like some conspiracy with the psycho love triangle being a scientist plot to awaken and kidnap Ayumi, but I wouldn't really say it built up any kind of endgame.

Web novel trash?

Nobody insults my pooky skeltal like that. Well meet at the Crack of noon by the old pier. Bring your weapon and calcium good sir

"MC is reincarnated into fantasy world as OP chara" is the plot of like one million billion web novels, so I'm used to them. Overlord isn't particularly special in that regard. The production values are quite solid and the voice acting is good, so it does end up being rather entertaining even if the concepts are stale.

Maybe if this starts a trend of similar works getting adaptations like SAO did we'll see some funnier "reincarnated into game world" things that poke fun at the concept. That might be interesting.

I do think it began there; it established a few things, changed the tone of the show, and we don't really know that the series is going back to the episodic stuff it did before. I actually kind of doubt it. The mysterious students only showed up in episode 6, too. (Are the scientists really invisible boogymen when we have a firm example of their work in episode two?)

C.C. is extremely moe

CC is an adult though. And Nunnally isn't sexualized. It didn't offend my sensibilities at all.

Kallen is technically like 17, but the character looks and acts like she's in her 20s. Characters who are 17-18 are a whole lot different than 10-11. The latter if they're sexualized is what really turns me off from a show.

Not if they are moe they aren't

So, she was there the whole time and her stopping point, given that he was basically going on a nihilistic rampage, was drugs?

Yeah, No.

Just watched episodes 17 and 18 of Cinderella Girls. Episode 18 was great (as the entire second season has been so far), but episode 17 really knocked it out of the park. I loved how they used Mika's poster as the motif of the episode.

Yeah, No.

Apparently this is a cultural thing. Japan is harder on drugs as a society than we are; it's much more unacceptable. (Also, the realist in me kind of gets that she probably couldn't have successfully intervened in the fights.)

I dreamt that Working S3 ended with a freak hurricane in the middle of the city, leading to lots of drama and pull-on-your-heartstrings moments

Thank God that's not gonna happen

What about S.A.C.? Everyone is always talking about that, it seems like.

You can pretty much watch SAC and 2nd GIG as a stand alone complex. The manga, the movies, the tv anime, and the ovas are all basically different takes on the characters/world of GitS you can view them in any order.

hipbabboom

Huh? What did I say? Did I screw up again? :(
Anyone notice the continuity error in Working!!! 07? Where Yamada's brother holding the "Mom's Manual" in one shot and the books bound side is on the left and then in the next shot it switched to the right?

I actually hate noticing things like this because I start looking for them and it just kills my ability to actually pay attention to the actual plot :(

Yeah, No.

The funny thing is if she is there the whole time then why the other girl didn't see her in the first place even if Nao went off to hide, the footsteps and moving of chair will make a sound.

I suspect she was the one who called the other girl to try and snap him out of it. When that didn't work, she went herself.

Haha. And the way they twist that troll knife at the end with Shichika's and Togame's dialogue. Delicious.

If you plan to watch both, I'd recommend getting a few SAC episodes behind your belt before jumping into movies as they will introduce you more gently to the world, characters and technology of GITS.

Maturity, bitches.
I also don't get the hate for moe since it's the equivilent of saying "I don't like things I like" seeing as moe comes down to personally preference and has no fixed criteria...

...hang on. Why am I typing this here? I thought everyone knew this. This is usually reserved for other threads.

Moe's just a meaningless buzzword when it comes to those sorts of discussions.

Damn, some shit went down. It started from
this page here (page 296-301). All due to what looks like some softcore porn anime with underage incest elements called To Love Ru (this DouchebagChocolat video explains the show) and a trio of users here encouraging the incest (cajunator, Arcadius, Save N' Quit).

Anyway, finally started watching Shirobako. It's pretty good and detailed, even if superficially the generic character designs are not my thing.

Tatami Galaxy is one of those I need more time to just commit to like a marathon rather than a one off episode each day. I should watch more Masaaki Yuasa, it seems.

Ping Pong is highly reccomended, anyhow, why would you say that you'd want to marathon Tatami Galaxy? due to it's episodic nature (for the most part) I'd say that watching an episode a day is fine, maybe it's just that people like marathoning.

Kaisei's face is finally revealed to the viewer. I'm beginning to think there is more to this whole broken engagement thing than meets the eye.

Mushishi Zoku Shou 03
Didn't feel this one much unfortunately.

Symphogear GX episode 7: A rather.. disappointing episode. I'd been looking forward to Maria getting her symphogear game on and dealing with her "power" troubles, and they went about it the absolute worst way, I feel.

I mean she had like the one cool moment where she dodged Garie's attack and punched her in the face mid-transformation. But then it was just "I'm so weak because this fight wasn't over in seconds! I'd better use my super berserk OP power straight away!"

I get we are gonna see dark transformations for all the girls, but in this episode we saw Maria transform into her relic for the first time, so shoehorning another transformation in straight away after just struck me as them trying to get Maria to catch up.

And this also brings me to the whole "what is true strength? I'll flash back to that conversation I had 5 minutes ago!" and it wasn't even a relevant flashback. They were flashing back to things that literally just happened.

What would have made far more sense would be for Maria to be defeated, for Kirika and Shirabe to jump in instead and do their dark transformations, kill Garie, and then Maria is again feeling left helpless and weak, for her to overcome in a future episode. They gave her nothing to work with, so this entire episode felt a bit hollow.

Garie dying makes me sad, she was my favourite. At least now that she's dead, the other autoscorers have a chance to shine.
