They should make an anime where everyone talks like Kirari.

Anastasia saying Davai, davai was the highlight, waiting for the time where she says Cyka.

Railgun S- [11-16]
So I ended up binge watching this last night as I was in a weird sort of mood. I had watched the earlier parts of the show when it aired and I overall found it boring to mediocre. The first season aggravated me more than anything and I remember the early parts of Railgun S to be not that much better. Now I had heard Nagai had done a much better version of the Touma vs. Accelerator fight but I didn't expect it to be this big of a leap. It's almost like watching an adaptation with two different sources, I mean the events are generally the same but that's where the similarities end. If you ever want to see the difference between mediocre direction in anime and great direction, watch the Index version of these events and then watch the Railgun S version.
I ended up rewatching the Index version and good lord is it night and day. In the Railgun S version, Touma takes much more visible damage and is actually bleeding. There's a stronger sense of danger and physicality on both sides through visual components such as slow motion. The fight is used for fleshing out Accelerator's personality and background through flashbacks. While it does not making him sympathetic, it does give the audience insight into his perspective and why he's such a piece of shit.
There's strong visual direction with the playing of color both on the characters and backgrounds. As seen above, in Accelerator's flashbacks/mindset he's drawn in black and his material is similar in tone to a horror movie. The fight uses both black and white backgrounds during emotional moments such as when Biriri is talking to her clone, the black symbolizes her desperation and dread.
The bridge scene had really solid storyboarding and animation as it better conveyed the emotions of the participants. A big factor was the difference in music as the piece played in Index is something closer to a battle theme while the one in Railgun is more heartfelt. In addition to that, the sound direction brought everything home repeatedly such as cuts at emotional climaxes and using the ED as an outro. Great stuff.

I imagine this has to be the peak of the Railgun anime as god damn I don't think anything else is touching this.

It...it really just characters playing PSO2 lol.

I'm gonna assume MC starts playing game because girl of his dream the school president is playing and along the way the girl who was staring at his dick while peeing plays as well and they eventually fall in love with each other. MC also discovers only he has this awesome super power in the game as well.

Maturity, bitches.
Damn, some shit went down. It started from
this page here (page 296-301). All due to what looks like some softcore porn anime with underage incest elements called To Love Ru (this DouchebagChocolat video explains the show) and a trio of users here encouraging the incest (cajunator, Arcadius, Save N' Quit).
Did you come into a community to tell said community what happened in their community? OK then... Well if you're going to do that at least get the facts straight.

I've personally always hated this fight because it simply showed the levels of stupidity the author will have his villains go to during fights with Touma and not doing the simplest things to win so that Touma wins the fight instead. Touma's ability is plot armor not IB.

Now that being said I agree with you here, this fight was supremely better than the original's version of the fight. But you'll learn that
Raildex > Index.

The fight was an improvement, but hardly worth spending so much time rehashing material that's already been animated. The Railgun anime is disappointing in that regard, if only the majority of the two seasons hadn't ended up being filler and reworking of old material.

Well given how core the story is to Misaka it would be odd to skip over/ignore thise events. And personally I liked the idea of telling that story from her pov. I just think the execution wasnt as good as I hoped. There was some stuff I really liked in it though. Mostly new additional/extended Misaka/Touma scenes.

Crossposting from the OT:

Gatchaman Crowds Insight episode 7: Goddamn, everything Berg Katze said in this episode, just seriously.

"Did you and Gel-kun fight?"
"Fight? It would never come to that lolololol, are you stupid? shitty bitch"

It would never come to fighting because Gel erased all conflict. I wonder if whatever the Sadra's do had already happened to Berg Katze's planet, which is why they are so obsessed with conflict and chaos.

The Gatchaman's reaction to Katze saying that they ran away shitting their pants from Gel, it was a true "Oh shit" moment.

Rui is improving as a character, Tsubasa is well into the negative ratings at the moment. I get that it's for the plot, but I don't think I could ever like her character even after this is over and she's just a normal part of the team next season. I think she's an awful character. Her whole "Are you saying difficult things? i'm too stupid to understand difficult things, but here is where you are wrong ~~~" actually made me really angry in this episode.

I don't think she'd die this season, but I hope she never gets reinstated as a Gatchaman.

Ping Pong is highly reccomended, anyhow, why would you say that you'd want to marathon Tatami Galaxy? due to it's episodic nature (for the most part) I'd say that watching an episode a day is fine, maybe it's just that people like marathoning.
Just the amount of dialogue and how fast it is. Had a similar thing with Ghost In The Shell. A lot to take in, got to be in one of those high consuming moods.

Oh yeah, already seen Ping Pong which is brilliant.

The dialouge really slows down after the first batch of episodes, it did tire me out though when I watched them.

As for other works of Yuasa there's also Kaiba, haven't seen it myself but people seem to like it.

Hi Anime-GAF. I am in need of some anime to watch will I do exercise.

Ushio and Tora TV is a show with its now OP on GAF so I assume it is a show of some quality.

Can Anime-GAF recommend this show?

Do you like 90s style shonen action shows? Because it's a good one of those somehow being made in 2015.

I see where you're coming from, but I thought it was fine personally. Again, it's the Key pattern I mentioned earlier. They're trying to get you to know the characters so that you care about them and they usually do that in a more lighthearted fashion. In terms of development:

Ep. 1: establishes Yuu, Nao, Joujirou, Ayumi
Ep. 2: establishes Nao's backstory
Ep. 3: establishes Yusa, Misa and their backstory
Ep. 4-5: the actually useless comedic episodes (which were still entertaining in their own right, IMO...there's some development of all the characters in here, too, but nothing too major)
Ep. 6: the plot begins in earnest
Ep. 7: I don't think anyone's complaining about this one

I don't think that 4-5 were that useless
we could see hints of Nao and Yuu's true powers and they talked about ZHIEND for the first time
not much but better than nothing.

Nana - 43

So I've come to enjoy Nana a little less at this point. Feels like the density of drama has become a tad too high and worse, the monologues feel overbearing at this point. In general, I'm a fan of a naturally progressing story that keeps me immersed as much as possible and therefore narration can quickly become a detriment for me unless handled very well. At this point most of these retrospective monologues just pull me out of my immersion and remind me that I'm just sitting there, watching an already passé story unfold. That's a bit of a pet peeve of mine.

I felt like that regard was balanced better in the first half, even if it's partially a by-product of the story becoming gradually more depressing. Also,
the relationship between Nana and Nana has been a tad too frustrating to follow. I mean damn it, when did they actually have the last halfway proper conversation? 20 episodes ago?

Still a very good show in absolute terms, it just has fallen off a bit for me.

Ushio and Tora has been fantastic and the latest episode pointed towards it going to something more than just a monster of the week format, but unless you watch shonen anime I wouldn't recommend it.

If you haven't yet, I'd highly recommend Natsume Yuujinchou. It has a BUNCH of episodes, somewhat similar premise to Ushio and Tora, and it's pretty damn fucking great. It's more relaxed though, more in the camp of something like Mushishi

Ugh, God Eater next week will be another extra, episode 6 will be 2 weeks later.

That's even faster than i thought.
Didn't think God Eater would kill ufo this hard. Is this because of FSN burnout, lack of animators/organizational problem or is the unique color palette of this show simply hard to do?

with how complex and deep the characters and story is, they're having a hard time showing that through the faces of the characters.

I'd agree with you. Most of the characters got some development even if the plot of the episodes wasn't incredibly important beyond being a vehicle for developing Nao and Yuu's relationship. I was calling them useless to try and point out that the "slow" first half only had two episodes you could reasonably take out and rework their elements elsewhere.

Shokugeki no Soma - 19

Plenty of newish characters introduced. I have high hopes for that Miyoko girl, which I have nicknamed Peacock for some reason. I think she was the one in a Chinese dress briefly during the camp. I like her aggressiveness and body language.
I got a laugh out of the Spice master and Megumi loop apologizing over and over, while Soma just watched, I didn't expect that super punch either!

I really like Soma's attitude shown at the end, he admits to being super jealous, and is using it as a means to get motivation and overcome his opponent. The visualization of the spices did its job well, I'm hungry for something spicy now!
Really looking forward to what is next, I'm expecting some great matches!

Humanity has Declined 9

A one-shot episode where up to this point we've had two episode arcs. I liked this one a lot, probably a top 3 episode alongside 2 and 4. Watashi and the Fairies have a great dynamic together and I wish there was more of it.

So, is this show only going to be 9 episodes long, or are they going to have to put the final episodes online or something?

Hope Tales of 20th Anniversary Animation (seriously do something about this name, Ufo) doesn't have these issues.

Bandai Namco (not to be confused with Bandai Visual) will purchase additional timeslots sometime to finish airing it on TV (along with the Bandai Channel/Niconico streams).

They're also in charge of the name for the Tales anime, so it's them to complain to, not ufotable.

Considering how many animators are thrown into each episode to finish it. It's probably because they devoted too much time/effort on UBW and are scrambling to keep up with God Eater's schedule commitment. Some producers miscalculated the lead time needed/did not anticipate UBW would be as taxing as it was perhaps?

While it wasn't treated that well I'm glad Yui had such a fall from grace considering how traumatic his life became. I hope he continues to stay as a bad guy for a bit as I don't want him to revert back to the early episodes of the show. Hopefully it continues to get better as it needed this in order to break from the early slump it had.

Or maybe they'll just take a cue from Bandai Visual's success with limited theatrical screenings and release the last few episodes as a God Eater movie event! :p

I don't mind a season going over the same material if it adds additional insight or development. I think seeing the situation from Mikoto's perspective made the audience realize how backed into a corner she was. I found this material to be vastly more effective than the first season.

God Eater 5

I laughed. It was trying so hard to be dark and full of despair but when people get turned into jelly donut filling you can't help but giggle as the characters make that dead-stare face in slow motion. You know the one

Gangsta - 07

I've started to enjoy the show more as the backstory between the two main characters have gradually been revealed. I'm still not a fan of the tags with their katanas in gun combat and being able to do gravity defying stunts.
Nico had a few cute moments with Nina, but in the back of my mind I'm still thinking about how stupid it is for him to do jumping backflips between rooftops while carrying her. I'm usually very pro ridiculous stuff, but in this show I just can't feel it.

I liked the last couple of minutes in this episode in particular, when Worick spoke to this Delly guy, with the younger Worick participating in the conversation. Koko up next?

Well for starters it makes people more defensive than they need to be, leading towards arguments where people take it personally instead of focusing around the work itself. I think it's fair game in a person's criticism of a show to say that it's masturbatory wank but it's another to imply that the audience are losers for watching it. It's also worth noting that just because something is for kids doesn't inherently degrade it as a solid work on its own.

Meh. I'd rather be considered an arsehole or a dickhead than walk around on eggshells wondering whether someone's fragile sense of self will become shattered because I criticised the choice of entertainment media.

Why should you get defensive because you like something someone else considers shit? It should add more discussion on why a piece of work can still be enjoyed regardless of some of the elements it it pandering to undesirable subcultures. For example one could say Shirobako is 'Typical moeshit slice-of life only enjoyable by socially underdeveloped losers'. And the response could be to curl up into a ball and cry about how people are dickheads on the internet. Or it could be to launch a discussion about how the shows content is betrayed by it's visuals, how it gives a good look into Japanese work culture and the various hurdles around animation creation in Japan, and also linking this into cultural discussions about Japan's obsession with female youthfulness. You could go into fiscal discussions about how hard it is to launch an animation and how many studios are running after a small pot of dedicated buyers and therefore are somewhat forced to use visual designs and characterisations which are unthreatening to that audience. Instead of pretending everything is fine and dandy, that underage sibling incest subplots have merit, that harems and falling onto girls breasts are aimed at adults, that skimpy 'armour' that somehow manages to expose more flesh than it covers exists for some other reason than base titilation, why not disown the elements you hate whilst encouraging discussion about the stuff you enjoy? You're favourite anime IS shit, but that doesn't stop you from explaining what it does that you liked.

Nothing is stopping you from insulting the audience of a show, lord knows it happens often with shit like MLP, but there's a fine line from blunt to asshole. And it also seems ironic to look down on an entire audience, when others do the same to us for even enjoying anime to begin with.

I think the difference is that I don't fault people for looking down on anime at all. Why shouldn't they? I seriously cannot see myself taking an insult based on entertainment preferences personally unless I secretly knew them to be true. I know that someone can look at Shirobako or Madoka and turn to the worst conclusion, and I don't blame them. The anime industry has continuously pushed itself into this corner and those of us who partake of it must know what we are doing.

You know, I kinda agree with this. While I don't think we should particularly encourage people to go all in and insult people who like something to the point of making it personal, and obviously if there's nothing being actually discussed other than insults flying around that's just daft, there's a point to be made about how fans don't need to be so defensive about stuff.

The main reason some people are ultra defensive about things tend to be because they feel that thing represents a large part of their identity and it is something they have to fight back on to validate their lifestyle. That sort of attitude isn't really healthy though, because when that happens you're narrowing your view of the world and restricting your perspective based on who you -want- to be seen as. I think it happens to pretty much everyone at some point or other though - be it entertainment, politics, history, religion, etc. What's valuable is recognizing it when it's happening and taking a step back. It's also important to recognize that some things are more worthwhile fighting over than others. Entertainment like videogame companies, cartoon series, and movie franchises are not really the hill anyone should want to die on as a representation of their self. Lol.

Fair enough, I don't think I've ever gotten defensive over liking a show as I readily admit when something is a guilty pleasure, I just didn't know how far we could go considering that the topic of anime, and cartoons for that matter, is iffy as many see it as children's entertainment and immediately dismiss others who might enjoy it. This particular example comes from ignorance of course.

Fucking academy awards.

Hey I'm not encouraging anyone to insult people
other than Key fans
. I'm just expanding my personal thoughts on the issue of people being defensive about the stuff they like. I think it's a topic people tend to not like discussing, especially those in likeminded communities with entranced views on what it means to be a fan.

One could say Shirobako is 'Typical moeshit slice-of life only enjoyable by socially underdeveloped losers'. And the response could be to curl up into a ball and cry about how people are dickheads on the internet. Or it could be to launch a discussion(...)

So I kinda agree with you here, but, the thing is that it's silly to expect an reasonable discussion when someone opens their argument with something as toxic as this. If you really want to discuss something one should bring some valid arguments for their claim, not post some drive-by hate and then say that others should give you reasons why show "X" isn't complete thrash.

People just don't want to bother talking to dicks.

TL;DR: Launch the discussion yourself, don't shitpost and expect others to launch it for you.
