In that case, I have some shows in mind if you're looking at 24-6 episode series. Some of these a good amount of people might have already watched however:

Tiger and Bunny (Hulu and Netflix(?))

Remind me to get the Blu-ray for this show and the movie as it's from the creator who make Video Girl AI and I''S.

Literally this.

Kyousougiga is a anime that's barely known and would be a wonderful rec. It's a really really solid and competent series that was overshadowed by shit like Kill la Kill. If you want a good rec of a series to bring in people go for something good and watchable, not something mediocre like Mirrai Nikki.

This is a good choice too.

People there is only one rational choice for a group watch.

We all watch Cat Planet Cuties.

i just find it weird how the US is shown to be the most atagonistic towards Japan... Despite us having great relations with them in real life (also have 49k soldiers stationed in the country), and much better relations then they have with China or Russia...

It's weird. I think Gate takes place in some Alternate Earth where US-Japan relations aren't that good. Which I don't know... feels contrived in some way? Like they did it so they could further emphasis how great Japan is.

I just hope it can go back to focusing on the other world, cause anything that deals with politics is really poorly written and thought out. Like despite the author having served in the JSDF, he seems to either lack the knowledge of the JSDF's relation with the US or willing ignores it to push an agenda.

Oh, I missed this yesterday but the way the author wrote this was a bit nuanced from a wide perspective. I'll spoiler my thoughts for folks that will watch it later.

They're not actually the most antagonistic. It's just that they're the ones that make the most sense to see using those channels within the show. Russia and China are unlikely to be interacting with Japan intimately like that because of real life politics. The US could though considering the good relationship the US and Japan have. It doesn't make sense for Russia or China to try and blackmail the Japanese government to stop defending the inn if they don't have the channels to do so. I guess you could write Russia or China doing that but it'd be stranger to do that, I think. Besides, it's backroom politics and not public politics at play which is certainly possible unless one believes the US is a bunch of good guys that wouldn't do some backroom stuff to get things done, lol. Also, the US agents are the only ones that the Japanese interact with which makes the most sense since the governments are generally on friendly terms.

The author also wrote a bunch of reasons into the show to avoid using the US as a major player within the series. Early on, he wrote that Japan proclaimed the land beyond the gate as a part of their own. Any conflict in that case would be internal to Japan itself and not subject to the US-Japan Defense agreement, I believe. That prevented the US military from jumping in to do stuff at the beginning. It wasn't the JSDF handling the stuff in the recent episode but the other secret agencies doing it. The JSDF only escorted the girls, heh.

I feel like folks that watch the series think the really is boasting how great Japan is and is pushing an agenda. When you look at the context of what's going on, especially with the anime, I don't really think it's all that pronounced. The biggest example would be the agents that were dealing with the regiments from the 3 nations in this onsen part. The manga is a little more questionable but that probably has to do with how much more graphic it is than anything. I haven't read the novels but I do know that the print versions were rewritten from the web novel iterations by the author.

Not that it matters to much, the run from Ep 11 to probably near the end of the full run will almost entirely be focused on the other world so a lot less will be happening with Japan.

kiritobread can we watch sao

Oh you .gif...

If there are that many people that haven't seen Future Diary, it could work, since (at least through the first 10 episodes) there is no ecchi/loli shit.

Also, what about something like, shit, it just left my head dammit. ..holding pattern.

^ I'm fairly sure that episode 5 at the very least had some nudity in it.

Anyone knows what method Crunchyroll uses to sort its shows by popularity ? Is it average episode viewings ? Or the time that was spend on viewing any given show ? Just got sorta interested cause I've got Shonen Hollywood on the very bottom and I remember hearing positive impressions of it.

Uhhh...it's not exactly ecchi/loli, and it's play for horror really, but Future Diary does have a
rape scene. Or to be more accurate a scene that follows immediately after a rape.

Is Cross Game on any streaming service? I thought it was on Hulu and was going to add it to my queue to watch in the near future, but can't seem to find it there anymore.

By a show of hands, how many people here have actually NOT watched Future Diary a.k.a Mirai Nikki?

Lurkers, you answer too dammit, lol.

I haven't watched it. I can't say it really grabs me though just from reading what it's about and the art seems a little bland.

Kinda random pickup but...

Ore Monogari 01

... this is actually fun. LTTP I guess?

Just an fyi, the first someodd episodes have this weird "Takeo saving people from disasters" thing that feels completely out of place. It stops doing that eventually and becomes its own thing quite nicely.

Gotcha. I like the humour in this one though. I was bored with nothing to do and since school only starts on wednesday I figured I would check it out. A bit late I know, but oh well.

I'm pretty sure there were some instances of nudity in the earlier episodes. The latter half of the show does have nudity regardless.

It's a solid romcom show. I thought the novelty would wear off quickly but it's been surprisingly consistent and enjoyable.

Date a Live
Samurai Champloo
Samurai Flamingo
Blue Exorcist
Blast of Tempest

Are any of these good?

Date a Live isn't good, but it has one of the best crazy girls in years, and she almost makes it good.

Samurai Champloo is pretty great.

Samurai Flamingo is crazy on fucking steroids. You'll love it or you'll hate it.

Blue Exorcist has a pretty good cast, but terrible story. Probably better to read the manga.

Haven't watched Blast of Tempest.

If this is for the groupwatch thing, Samurai Champloo isn't nearly obscure enough at all if the point was to get people to watch unknown and good series. Would say the same for Blue Exorcist.

Don't worry too much about being LTTP. I only started Food wars a couple of days ago (though i caught up real quick). It happens.

Are any of these good?

Date a Live is my guilty pleasure. watched it 4 times. I'm not sure I'd call it good, but I enjoy it. The art in it is great and the designs are really quite something. The second season was a huge letdown though

Samurai Champloo, only watched a few episodes and have it on hold for now. It's good to be sure, but there are times where the line thickness changes to the point where it felt just wrong. I'd need to watch more, but considering public opinion its worth a watch.

Samurai Champloo is very good show to watch. Did an impression about this show last year and would recommend everyone to watch this show if they never watch it yet. Also, the music soundtrack is great.

Me being the fan of rom-coms that I am I let this one slip. It is pretty good so far!

Are any of these good?

Date a Live - trashy harem that for some reason is super popular
Samurai Champloo - Brilliant show. Watched the dub and it was amazing.
Samurai Flamingo - Uhhhhhhh... honest answer, nope.
Blue Exorcist - it was iight. Standard shonen flick, but it was fun.
Blast of Tempest - I actually really liked this one even though opinions are mixed on it.

Samurai Champloo is a calssic but is also well known and popular.
Samurai Flamenco is a cult classic. Very weird and requires some familiarity with Super Sentai shows to get the most out of, but awesome if you stick with it.

Everything else is trash.

Shit, responses all over the place, lol. With that being said,
A) Which ones are too popular
B) Which would be good for a group watch.

I have a week to figure this out. Looking for something a step up from Sunday without God, lol.

Please tell me there's a gag later on where Erina accidentally tastes fast food and is KO'd for, like, a day.

Samurai Flamenco might be right as it isn't too popular in the market right now.

I think only Tempest and Blue would be suited for group watch, Samurai Champloo is to popular and the other 2 shows will get very mixed responses ( ether good or complete trash) since they are more exotic.

who knows :p but at the very least if you don't mind the show now continue because once it hits ep 4 or so it gets good and keeps getting better.

Based on this list I'd go with Blast of Tempest. Really liked that one and I don't think it's that popular.
Date a Live isn't really something you'd groupwatch lol.
Both the Samurai shows are too popular, but for different reasons.
Blue Exorcist is bad. Go read the manga if you're interested.
