I never undestood why people thought Sawano was composing for OPM. The music featured in the trailers wasnt like something he would compose. Except the Sengoku Basara OST which featured some rock tracks.

I wonder what strings he pulled to get that gig.

Maybe all the budget has gone to animation lol.

sawano is doing the ost for the official playstation magazine. i'm pretty excited to hear what he comes up with.

More filling int he blanks but this one was alright, probably due to the competition angle.

Kremlin 1-5
Weird ONA that has its moments but is mostly just sort of there but hey, it's like ten minuets total.

Muromi-san OVA
More of the same from the tv series: questionable humor coupled with some god tier cuts.

Mushishi 13
Weaker ep than normal but following up 12 isn't easy and even a weak Mushishi ep still likely lands on good when viewed objectively.

Shigurui 1
Yeah, this'll do nicely. Tension of the first episode was punctuated with the ritualstic cult-like presentation of the Kogan dojo.

Shigurui 2
And I suppose strange is the name of the game in this one. That initiation ceremony was kinda fucked up and feels very much a part of the cult aspect.

Ore Monogatari 11

Wow, can't believe I've watched 11 episodes in an afternoon. Show is great. Beach episodes are always fun. Girls are all cute and Takeo is super deezed lmfao.

Walkure Romance ep. 1-3
So this is another one on my MAL I'be been meaning to clear out and, umm, yeah, it's all about jousting and knights and stuff. Yeah, it's got an ecchi edge to it with the panty shots and boobs groping, as well as, the MC is wanted as an assistant by a bunch of chicks, so a harem is incoming for McDreamy the retired knight (tragic injury dismounted him) who used to be great. I must admit my childish side had me laughing at the comments about holding and using the lance (ya know, it is big and hard and hurts when she does it the first time and all) yeah, they ran with that sophomoric stuff when she was trying to get on the armor the first time too. Yup, that's about all there is to say; let the MC harem race begin!

You know you can always vet shows on your list through here rather than blindly stumbling in.

I do that a lot, so I try not to abuse that privilege. Besides, like I said last week, anime can be like a box of chocolates and you never know what you will get. Yes, it is pretty bad, but for 12 episodes, I'll probably fight through it, lol.

It's all about the experience, lol.

It's an adaptation of a Porn VN which is probably the most pointless thing I can think of, I dunno what you expected

See that I didn't know, my goodness. It can't possibly be as bad as Yosuga no Sora is it?

No doubt checking out the story before making sure the porn VN is worth his time.

In my defense:

Synopsis: (MAL)
The story centers around Takahiro Mizuno, a student training to be a begleiter (knight's assistant) at an academy where aspiring knights joust. He himself had come to this academy to train as a knight, after becoming the unrivaled junior champion in his own home country. However, an injury in a tournament's finals forced him to withdraw. Instead, he decides to be a begleiter to one of the academy's maiden knights and help her win.

I've started to notice when a character has a certain accent or not and I think I prefer accents. It just sounds so satisfying. I like the "ja" sounds a lot.

the main thing in japanese is that i find it hard to tell whether it's slang because of their position as a person (youth, professional in this field, yakuza whatever) or if it's regional dialect.

also i haven't heard a single 和からへん yet which is my usual indicator that i'm in the country*

*though on reflection that just means you're in 関西

I was so bored I decided to watch this for Mini Gumball and because for some reason, some chump recommended it to watch (probably wonzo). And then there I was, initially wondering what I was watching.

It was like normally, for those 4komas or slice of life things, you'd see things have some form of pacing to fill 24 minutes of your miserable life reminding you of highschool. Here, it's like watching a dub of Speed Racer where everyone moves at an incomprehensible speed, as well as some odd ball jokes. S3 was probably my favorite of the four seasons as it did have some nice material to go on with. There's also that clear divide where Yuri is like.... the one who doesn't show off as much goods compared to her other weird friends.

Needless to say, it ended abrupt, and I had no season 5 to leech on, and I actually felt empty inside because I didn't have enough. Where's Season 5? I need more shit to watch to give me 2 minutes of joy again.

do you even play games lol? that's where most of my time goes. you must have more time than me if you can throw it away saying "it's about the experience"... mad jelly

Not nearly as much as I used to unfortunately. I'be been working two jobs for a long time now. Lol. I've have been playing nothing but SAO on my Vita for over 6 months now and playing The Last of Us R on PS4 from time to time. The last game I bought was Type-0. I also just started playing Tales of Synmphonia on my PS3 the other night. I don't have the money to but any games right now, but I will get Tales of Zestiria on PSN with the cards I have been saving from My B day, father's day, etc. I'm just hoping to get another $50 for Xmas from the on-laws to buy Persona 5!

Now with experience, it's great if you only watch the best stuff, bit I don't mind stepping I'm shit once on awhile to make me appreciate the good stuff even more.

I Can't Understand What My Husband Is Saying is about 5 minutes of low-key joy p/episode

Season 5 is airing here. Season 6 starts in October.

I initially put this down because I wasn't too fond of what was going on. But then again, I did see it get praised in this thread quite a bit so I might give it a second chance.

it has a really bad like episode 3 or something where all the jokes are about the younger brother who is super into yaoi, but around episode 5 or 6 some weird poignancy hits and the show becomes really really great. (And more importantly for me, low investment!)

Baby Steps 2 23:
This was a tense episode. Even though genre savvy tells me he has to lose here and beat Nabae only at the All-Japan Junior, there is still a part of me that believes. It really felt like we got two or three episodes worth of material here in terms of how many reversals there were. I really was blocking everything out and just focusing on the series with everything I had. Every week, Baby Steps manages to just completely absorb me.

It's really a shame that the production values for the show aren't better, because in just about every other regard it's a pretty phenomenal series. This has definitely earned a spot as a truly top tier sports anime.

I'm sad that it's ending in two weeks. Hopefully we get a season 3, though I may just pick up the manga at this point.

Shokugeki no Hyouka - 14

Well that cooking competition may not have had as much energy as the show I'm referencing, but it sure was almost as fun as it!

Man, where were these episodes in the earlier half of this show?

Yeah, I'm in the same boat. I'll probably pick up the manga, although if a Season 3 gets announced right away I might wait on that. I'm not sure. It'll be a shame when I don't have a new episode to look forward to each Sunday.

Angel Densetsu OVA
This was really funny. It's pretty much the same joke over and over, but for these 50 minutes it works. I'm not actually sure why I decided to watch this, did someone in this thread mention it recently? I can't remember where my inspiration came from.

Can't wait for more greatness next season.

So I just finished 15 of Ore Monogatari, and that's it for today. Not sure if this chick is a rival or not.

It's good stuff man. Go give your best bro some plastic wrap and a high 5, and your girl some cake, lol.

Genius and get used to that. You may find yourself hitting the pause button frequently as well to get a full grasp of all the text going on.

Photon

I forgot these OVAs existed. I might do a better write up when I'm not exhausted but I caught these when I was a youngun and forgot all about it then recently saw it up somewhere and gave it a rewatch cause I've been rewatching a lot of 80s and 90s shit lately and barely any of it has held up.

But man, Photon is super simple but...there's no other way to describe it then fun. It's well animated, ecchi and just sorta amusing for the most part. Everything is played for laughs.

I dunno. It was just an enjoyable watch. Nice and short.

Bakemonogatari 01

What

Welcome to Monogatari. Hope you enjoy the ride, because it's certainly going to go places.

Naw I didn't bother with that it was all nonsense anyway

Nothing's actually nonsense in Monogatari, which is one of the reasons why I like it so much. Still, I never felt like reading it all by pausing because it isn't like you could possibly read it normally, even in Japanese. Most walls of text tend to be quotes ripped straight from the LNs, AFAIK.

I like everything about the show: It being character and dialogue-based, the way it treats and explores its characters, the stellar pacing and the way the LN writer and the anime director's certainly unique ways of doing things work extremely well together. Even the fanservice is there for a reason, really (with the added bonus of selling figures as well).
