Re:Zero ep 15

Remember the article in the OT before talking about people indulging on show about escaping from real life problems to fantasy worlds so they can become badass and it listed this show? Yeah, apparently they didn't read the source material lol.

You want to know why there is eyeball licking? Because that madman is Kirito, he brought his SAO filth in there.

I'm only 7 minutes in and holy shit....just fuck...this show is hardcore.

Edit: Finished the episode. This show continues to be the best anime of the year for me. Looking forward to "murder-eyes" Subaru next episode.

What if eyeball licking is my escapist fantasy?

Endride ep.14
While thr image is from a much earlier episode, it fits where they are going with the show. I actually like the direction they are going with the story in the second cour, I just hope they put it together well down the stretch..

Kiritobread, what is Endride supposed to be like?

It's a fantasy adventure/trapped in another world type show that does everything ok, but nothing great. It's not a bad adventure to follow thought. DTL really likes the main pair but they were pretty anmoying the first cour. There are signs of a positive turn around here though.

Yeah, DTL and I are the only two watching it weekly, lol.

Relife finish.

enjoyable, will pick up the manga.

Rezero 15

the suffering that has been watching rezero for the last two weeks paid off greatly this week as the suffering on display made for one of the best anime episodes I have seen in a while.

Pretty damn chill and fun. I really love how, even when weird things happen, the series treats magic and magical things as relatively pedestrian. Its both exciting and interesting and also not at the same time. Kind of like how people learn about science, or technology, this show treats magic with a more "normal" nature. As if it was just a thing that happens rather than something super-duper. The show handles that super well.

There are only 3 things I didn't like though. The first being that the Harbinger only appears in 1 episode, but appears to be a mainstay in the OP (such a mean tease >.<). The second being that everyone has a perpetual kitty-face on most of the time. Didn't really like that, distracted more than it added imo. The third is the use of green for the linework in the OP. Hated that. Seriously, the OP would have been ace if it didn't have that green, but... bleh. Otherwise excellent series (Though maybe not quite as good as Barakamon or Non Non Byori repeat)

Huh? In episode 2 the stall owner says that a broke kid like him helped his daughter, but doesn't thank him? I believe he was referring to Satella, who is also penniless. At what point in the episode are you referring to?

He mentions "another broke kid" helped her daughter. Without Subaru the white haired girl still helps the store owner's daughter.

He says "A broke kid, like you". I thought he was referring to Subaru, not an Emilia. I understand now, thanks.

It's a shame this won't be popular since it reminds me of early Gintama. It isn't following the straight man routine but the zany comedy that Gintama is known for is in full effect here. Laughed multiple times during this great show. Highly recommend for comedy fans.

Re Zero reaction Sundays are always fun.
However. Today is not yesterday, but today. Incidentally it's also not tomorrow.

And do you know what day today is?
That's right, today is Mob Psycho day!

Just finished with Relife and really enjoyed it. What really sold it for me was the character interactions and now I just want more.

I gotta comment on the background music as well and I thought the piano piece really added a lot to the scenes.

Whilst I'm pissed off that Crunchyroll didn't get the licence to Berserk for Australia, the fact that they released all the episodes of Relife for me to binge made it up for it.

Anyone got any other recommendations? Orange looks kinda interesting.

Just watched the last 4 re zero episodes and I think that even for me someone that likes attack on trains/titan/akame ga kill and all kinds of depressing shit that this show has just gotten a bit too dark for me.

The last time a show I liked was this depressing was Shiki. Good God I don't even know if the torture porn that is Claymore is grim as re:Zero

When is konosuba coming back lol

Re:Zero ep 15

Geez. This is some Higurashi/Umineko level of darkness. Love it.

Wow how could I forget to use that show as an example when I just watched when they cry a few months ago.

Pfft, I support Liverpool and England. Subaru's suffering pales in comparison.

Where's Beatrice at?

Also a friend of mine spotted something nice. Subaru's decapitation looks like it was actually the result of the strong winds after Puck freezes him. If you go back and watch that scene again you see Subaru's tears turn to ice when Puck tells him to "sleep" and his head gets decapitated in the direction the wind is blowing which implies it was because of the wind. Pretty cool.

I re watched the last scene in Re zero today, and i really love how it just semi frezzes the scene and the credits start rolling, reminds me of some older movies. Also the music is really nice and fitting , wish i knew what it is called.

What a shit episode.
Who thought it was a good idea to focus almost the entire episode on the Windermereans? They are thoroughly bland antagonists. They have not a single interesting character and even the character interactions on their side are as dull as it gets.
You could have cut 90% of this episode and nothing of value would have been lost. In fact, I scrubbed through 90% of this episode and nothing of value was lost.

The only good parts were the short fight at the end, hints about Mikumos past and the tease about Hayates father at the end.

Good lord that Re Zero episode.

Also the most effective credit crawl I've seen in a while.

The way everything is slowly being covered in snow and the snowstorm getting more intense over time, like a curtain that closes, was absolutely stunning.

Re:Zero 3 - 14

I thought I was done with the show until I saw all the posts. I heard about the maids so I thought I'd check it out again. Pleasantly surprised with the show and I never wanted to stop watching.

Re:Zero 15

JESUS CHRIST

Everything about it was just fantastic. I was struck with awe as the credits rolled.

Aria Avvenire 03

fCJVuchl.png

CATGASM!!!!

So this OVA is officially the final piece of media for Aria, probably forever. It's funny because it doesn't really do anything new, recycling an older story where the younger girls help bring the older girls together after they've drifted apart because of work. But with such a small running time and probably a desire to get the entire cast together, it wouldn't make sense to do anything else. The new girls got their own episode, in a way, in episode 2 so if this is the big reunion/finale, then I'm willing to forgive them treading over well worn ground.

Of course, the episode itself is steeped in memories of the past, which definitely contributes to the feeling of deja vu, but this is Aria after all and much of the show is about self-reflection. Probably the only thing that would be noteworthy to someone who has followed the series is the confirmation that yes, somehow between all the episodes of the series, Alicia met someone who was willing to wait for Akari to graduate before getting married.

As I mentioned before, the death of Athena's voice actress (Tomoko Kawakami, perhaps most famous for Utena) and vocal artist (Eri Kawai) looms large for the audience, if not for the characters in the show itself. Athena is very much alive and has a thriving career, and I think it's a bit of a fitting tribute to have her character still living in this world.

TGzLgnIl.png

You hear Athena's song reverberate through the air, and the first time you see Athena is far in the distance. She's separate from the rest of the cast, but she is still very much with them.

Sv0XSDXl.png

Later it cuts to her in close up. She's late to the reunion, but she knows that she can remind everyone that she's there through her voice.

yWYHsMRl.png

The scene slowly comes back to the rest of the cast, watching Athena in the distance and listening to her song. And for us, the audience, it's a reminder that even though Kawai has passed, we can still remember her by listening to her music.

It's also notable that the OVAs went out of their way to avoid having any voiced lines from Athena - in episode 1, she only sings. And unlike music, where an old song can be inserted into a new context without much trouble, it's much harder to try to find a way to include an acting performance by re-using old recordings. If I remember correctly, both the Persona 4 Golden anime and game had to deal with this issue when the actor for Igor passed away, coming up with in-world reasons for why Igor couldn't communicate with the main/player character during certain periods of the anime/game.

So it's not surprising that they would rely on a flashback:
hOX7REMl.png

And it's fitting that it's probably the most powerful moment for the character in the series, where Athena tells Alice that she's graduated to become an Undine. It's a flashback to a scene that is very much about passing the torch, so the parallels to the real world are obvious.

What the crew decided to do with the Athena character was always my biggest worry about new Aria content, and I think they did an admirable job honoring the memory of the character and the performers who brought the character to life. The OVA is not only a fitting sendoff to the series as a whole, but also to friends who have passed on.

I'm not sure what will happen with Aria as a text and whether it will be remembered in the coming years. It's a fairly niche series that has its ardent fans but probably not much reach - even the launch of the mobile game, which is probably played by maybe a couple thousand people, is probably ephemeral and will disappear in a few months after the buzz of the bluray re-releases has tapered off. But it'll always have a place in my heart (to the point where I did that Aria poster thing that still haunts me to this day because I still need to watch Utena, LOGH and the uguu anime Kanon) and barring some amazing new anime that hasn't aired yet, will probably be my favourite anime of all time.

prisma illya 3rei!! - 1

made it through a whole episode without any 2wei/herz scenes

good fight scene

I've been vindicated

I'll just say that that's usually a minus in my book. Because if you really can't guess where the plot is going, that often means the narrative is not following any rules of logic but instead pulling out constant "shocking" twists to try to surprise the audience instead of having believable character motivations and an internally consistent world. That's cheap, disposable storytelling.

Well i never expect one day i agree with you something, i read the Re:Zero LN before and the message author keep giving me is the he just want to make Subaru suffer and come back and loop, so Subaru and his friends intelligence keep suddenly going up and down depends on scenes lol.
That's why i already feels bored.

Still 8/10 show anyway.

LMAO, thinking of every possible request to indulge just to get a cursed choker off.

Aqua should stop bullying the undead shopkeeper.

Konobi, or This Art Club Has a Problem! 01

The senior member is so fucking lazy, just sleeping on the couch all day, wtf...

Nana Mizuki singing the OP... Alright, I'm staying for this.

This one's fairly sweet, though fucking Subaru should snap out of it and drop the attitude.

If you want story mode, just go with Blazblue Chrono Phantasma Extend or Guilty Gear XRD Revelator.

Hell, even fucking Persona 4 Arena Ultimax has a more watchable story mode than SFV. That's how cheesy SFV was.
