Summer Game Fest: Who had the better show?

Who had the better show?

State of Play so far. It didn't have a lot of games, but a lot of them were things I'm interested in, including some PSVR2 titles.
Summer Game Fest show had more games I'm interested in, but also a ton of games I'm not.
Xbox Direct had some high points (like Mudang), but missing Fable and Perfect Dark was huge. Also CoD ending was fucking stupid.

June 2025 may be my favorite gaming show in like... forever? Starting with Enhance (Lumines Arise), an actual interesting AAA Capcom game that we thought was fucking dead (Pragmata), Suda51 (Romeo is a Dead Man) and Konami x Ryukishi07 (Silent Hill f), and ending with PlayStation Studios x Arc System Works on a gorgeous 4v4 Marvel fighter, which was easily the most shocking gaming reveal of the past few years, will be very hard to top.

State of Play, a smaller format than SGF or any proper "Showcase", had Marvel Tokon from Arc System Works, 007 First Light, Pragmata, Silent Hill f, Metal Gear Solid Delta, Final Fantasy Tactics, Lumines Arise from Mizuguchi and Romeo is a Dead Man from Suda51 and even a new Thief for VR.

Summer Game Fest only had Onimusha, Stranger Than Heaven and Resident Evil Requiem. As for the Xbox Showcase, I'd argue that the biggest thing was to have seen the Persona 4 remake announced.

I think the Xbox show had some decent looking games but the actual show bored me to tears.

SOP on the other hand, while devoid of first party stuff, was pretty good.

SGF itself was dire.

Xbox and really not even close. Sony didn't have a single 1st party game. They showcased 1 game coming to PS+. They showcased Metal Gear for the 3rd time and somehow made it look even worse. A shit port of FFT. A poor and vague showing for Pragmata for the 3rd time. A fighting game barely better looking than Invincible as their big game. Xbox just showed more stuff, and Clockwork Revolution is possibly my game of the show. The art design is phenomenal and the time manipulation looks great. Double Fine's game looks graphically insane and is this year. Tons of stuff hitting GP over and over. Imagine if Sony had Ninja Gaiden 4 or Persona dropping on PS+, and these aren't even main Xbox announcements. SGF is a joke and doesn't even count for me. I will try very hard to never watch it again.

Sony won imo. It wasn't a blow out by any means but Marvel Tokon was this E3's highlight for me. RE9 was cool but expected. Regardless, I feel like there was more missing than revealed these last 3 or 4 days.

Season 1 GIF by The Simpsons

The Witcher 4.
Res Eve 9.
Clockwork Revolution.
Plagues Tale Resonance.
Atomic Heart/The Cube.
Nioh 3.
Keeper.
Onimusha.
Fate End.

All these should have been one show and id be sorted.
I think most are from Sgf and Xbox sooooooo............

The IOI showcase was an absolute train wreck. On stage presentation E3 style.
Spent WAY too long in a poker game in Hitman, no 007 gameplay but terrible cg instead, audio issues, bad body language, all sorts of awkward moments. All the presenters seemed like some shady coke fiends. It was hilarious. So I picked that one.

Marvel Tokon was the game of not-E3. But Sony's was also a brisk 50 minutes or so, not much fat, and had a lot of interesting stuff, but the others were way too long and full of lousy looking junk.

There was a livestock show down in Perry GA this weekend. Feel like I missed out
what are those livestock shows like?

I thought both Sony and MS's showcases were pretty good. I didn't think much of the Summer Games Fest. I didn't see the other two.

So for me, it was a tie between MS and Sony.

Everyone was bad this year, but MS wins by far. Pyrrhic victory in more than one way.

Clockwork Revolution is possibly my game of the show. The art design is phenomenal and the time manipulation looks great.
I never understand people who like Steampunk. It's such a loser aesthetic. Clockwork is so tryhard it winds up looking generic. Like an unholy mixture of Bioshock Infinite and Dishonored with all of the most cliche motifs.

I get that honestly. I'm not a big steampunk guy. Its still cool though. I thought the robots looked really neat. And it seems like the time powers look awesome. And its an RPG as well. And its on GP. Cant really think of a negative. Creating cover with a time rewind, rewinding shots to hit a 2nd time, tweaking the story with time travel. Im intrigued.

I only watched SoP and SGF. SoP was more enjoyable to watch cuz was more compact but SGF ended up showing more games i want to buy day 1, so i give this one to SGF even if it was a borefest of a show.

As far as i am concerned
State of play has had 7,5 minutes worth watching and has wasted 49 minutes of my time
SGF has had ~10 minutes worth watching and has wasted 108 minutes of my time
Xbox has had 19 minutes worth watching and has wasted 51 minutes of my time, luckily this time i was ready and skipped the game direct the end otherwise it would have been an additional 40 minutes, so 91m in total

SGF was by far the weakest with less than 10% worth watching, SoP has fared a lot better with roughly 14% being worth watching, Xbox was the least bad with about 19%

Expectations were low, reality was worse, it wont happen, but its time for E3 to come back.

Off topic: I miss E3. All this shown this week end will be more exciting if it was a proper conference with demo booth and booth babes, and those cheesy and cringy over the top announcement on stage like the E3 of the past. 🙁

I voted for Summer Games Fest because it showed the game that I'm the most impressed by and looking forward to—Felt That Boxing.

SoP for Nioh 3 and Tokon because they were actually surprising announcements. But I am more excited for Onimusha and RE9, I just knew about them already.

From the state of play I'll get lumines arise, marvel tokon, FFT, onimusha and maybe metal gear solid 3 and shinobi.

From the summer games fest literally nothing.

From the box showcase only persona 4

It's amusing seeing rankings on here vs elsewhere. Like if you were to look at Geoff's polls on X then compare the polls to here, you'd think the shows were entirely different. GAF either skews more Sony or more Japanese enthusiasts.

Japanese games enthusiasts, I guess. That is why good job for Sony on SOP on focusing on Japan made games. Gamers are so hungry for more Japan made games outside of soul game style gameplay.

I don't think it is any one thing, but to me these shows were just not very exciting. Look at the number of people voting here. Now look at last year where folks here were raving about Microsoft's showcase.

Last year's Xbox show generated a lot more buzz.

Oh I agree last years was better. I don't think any of the shows this year were great, just noticing the variation. Looking at Geoff's polls for example as of right now:

Xbox - 67.6% give it a B or higher (63.4k votes - polling is still open)

SGF - 54.8% give it a B or higher (118k votes)

SoP - 51% give it a B or higher (152k votes)

With that, Xbox looks like the clear winner of the 3 with SoP being the worst. On GAF though it's currently 50% for SoP as the "winner". So I just figure it's either a skewed Sony fanbase here or a larger representation of Japanese style game enthusiasts here, since SoP had the largest proportion of that.

Yeah, we do have a strong contingent of Japanese game fans here
