Haha, hey guys! Check out the hubris on this dude. ^^^^^

Imagine, thinking he's cool enough to post at the top of the page. Who does he think he is?

Well, all I'll say is he'd better follow through on his goals, now that he's put himself in so prominent a position. :P

I am pretty horrible with these updates, I am trying my best not to turn this into bi-weekly updates, or I would feel bad for not updating this thread. Anyway, update time!

Fitness, oh fitness, I am simply dominating this goal right now. I try my best to go on a bi-daily basis, at least three times a week. I am knocking out sixteen straight pullups. I am simply in the best shape of my life right now. I have hit the milestone of lifting a 100 lb when I used the bicep/triceps/lat machine. I am almost ready to bump up my cardio runs too.

I actually completed a game this week, Infamous 2! I am working on Shadow of the Damned right now, so I hope to report back next week and tell you all that I have completed this lovely title.

Since my 6/6 post, I have not had a single cigarette, I think I am nearly out of the jungle and have nearly beaten this addiction!

Social report! I was unsure what was going on with the girl when I posted last week. Well, I hung out with her today and mustered up the courage to ask her out...she said yes! This is valuable event to assist getting rid some of my slight social anxiety, it's a confidence boost, and a possible chance of a relationship (still a while before I possibly hit this point), which would meet a sub-goal for this summer.

Also, a bit of side-information, I am transferring to a state school next semester, and I am receiving a full-ride. Dorming and all. Pretty awesome news for me and my family!

It's nearing the midway point of my summer. Thus far, I am making a complete 180 on my life. Last summer was bad for me with my social skills, range of friendships, confident and health at an all-time low. This summer is kicking last summer's ass!

That's fantastic! I hope to enter such a phase myself. And a full ride to a school, living expenses included?! I'm envious, but this means you'll have such a leg up on life now. Don't get me started on the 16 pullups...

Whenever things are starting to look better for me I get in this self-defeating mindset where I can't accept it, and I just assume that I'll slip back to where I was before. I'd like to make some major changes and then adapt to them as the norm. Onwards and upwards!

I was feeling awesome about my goals/progress earlier this week and this girl got me sick.

So pissed.

Probably going to the gym anyway. Can't miss another workout. I'll feel like a sloth.

Ok, as promised: new goal!

Write at least 250 words/day. Update on success once a week.
Update!

6/21: check

6/25: forgot
6/26: check

4 for 6 so far. Think I'll do better this week.

These short story collections are a nightmare. How do you read the length of a novel in a week? It's taken me more a than few weeks just to read one of the collections... Here, at the end of june, I need a rethink...

I haven't updated in over a week! So I'll generalize what I have and haven't done throughout this whole time:

Socially:
I've been hanging out by myself e.g. by walking around Midtown and hanging out at Union Square while checking out women left and right. For my birthday, I went to downtown Manhattan with my bros then we went to eat at Mexican restaurant with my older brother's girlfriend later that night; it o.k. It wasn't what I wanted to do since I kept getting pulled along by where my brothers and the girlfriend wanted to go. I didn't want to go to the Mexican restaurant; it was my bro's girlfriend's idea.

I went to a lounge with my oldest brother last week to see some live bands; the bands mostly sucked, but at least we went. I have jury duty this week so for the past two days I've been doing that and checking out clothes around the area and I've passed by my alma mater (which is where I'm currently writing this post from). Chinatown's intriguing as ever, so I like the fact that the court building is right next to Chinatown; literally across the street. I've talked to some people that I know including mustering up the courage to talk to a chick that I went to Elementary school with that I saw on the train. I added her on FB; I'll go more into those details and thoughts on that in the Dating Age thread.

On Thursday there's a college party that I might go to; I still haven't decided because that means spending money on the entrance fee and drinks if I want to get buzzed. Nonetheless, it would be a good social opportunity provided I don't get paralyzed in my thoughts like I do in parties where I don't know anybody but people know each other.

Unfortunately, on the weekends, I still get bored and depressed because I have nothing to do so I tend to stay inside overthinking about where to go.

Everything else:
I haven't made any progress towards applying for internships as I've gotten lazy and my internet connection at home sucks badly because my modem's having problems, so it's slow as molasses.

Dating wise, no dice on either dating websites. I've gotten frustrated here and there with it, but I'm not giving up on it.

Tomorrow, I'm accomplishing one of my goals which is to declare my major at the Art department and register for classes related to my major. That should be fun I hope.

I still haven't made much progress to cutting down my gaming time. The other day, I played Dead Space 2 for 11 hours straight and beat it on Easy, about a week after that, I mopped up the remaining achievements in Resonance of Fate and got 1000/1000. I still haven't found a way to limit myself, so it helps if I stay outside for as long as I can and go to the gym. I need to stop buying games and stop being addicted to getting achievements. It doesn't help that I want to check out Vanquish because it's 20 bucks at Best Buy.

Speaking of the gym, I still haven't been consistent with going four days a week, but I've gone at least once or twice a week. I plan on going tonight.

One other thing I'll add is that I erased a chick from my FB out of frustration for not responding to my message. We're not even related (she had the same last name as me) and I didn't even know her or ever met her after having her added for over a year so I removed her from my friend's list. I tend to get frustrated very easily with my women and my life as you can see.

Hopefully I'll update my progress soon provided the internet connection problem at home gets resolved.

I got some lovely news in my inbox this afternoon :D :D :D

Dear bdizzle

Congratulations! We are pleased to inform you that you have passed the Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP®) examination - the first step in becoming certified as a CISSP.

I passed my exam, now I just have to get some paperwork filled out and I'm set bitches.

Looks like I was kinda early with the sudden gear up. I can progress fine during evening shifts but I think I'll wait some more before I do anything at home. The buses got changed and there was a lot of chaos and between all that I just needed time to rest at home.

Week after next one is all night shifts (which is basically 12 hours of nothing for 5 days) so I won't rush anything.

My first update :)

So...
Pass my exams and get my Masters
: I got my results yesterday. I passed all my exams. I now need to defend my thesis in September.

Finish the last draft of my novel + get an agent + write at least four scripts + just write write write
Yup, I'm writing like a mofo. In fact I added on a new project, a comic-type blog. I can't draw worth a damn but I'll give it my best shot. Link to the first "strip" => Misadventures of Deana
Finish P90X
Uhm...*cough* No progress since last time. I have...no excuse but laziness.
Get job and save money for California
Got the job, saving the money but it sucks, it truly sucks. Four months to go.

Voilà

Feeling pretty good. (I hope it lasts).

Fitness is improving, I'm losing weight, and gaining muscle.
I'm also getting a new weight lifting routine that should hopefully help me put on more muscle more quickly.

Also had a mini-cheat evening in the form of delicious boneless wings but still kept my diet on point.

=)

I am too tired to write an update tonight (I'll do that tomorrow!), but I'll make a quick note for this dear man.

I'm happy with the full ride, my father was covering my college (I was going to a private college). I felt bad with him covering my tuition and living expenses, so I took the less selfish path and decided to go to a state university for the remainder of my undergraduate...though I'll probably head to UF in the spring, so it's not bad at all! I can easily say I am super lucky to have such a supportive family.

I also used to be in your position. Always beating myself down if something good happened. Hell, I am still somewhat fearful that I'll fall back into my prior negative patterns. It certainly takes time, but if you are determine about it, you will make a successful leap in changing your life for the better. ;-D

Sometimes life can be super hard, and you'll want to enter a cave and hide from the world (I actually took a hard blow this past week, and I have mostly recover from it). But keep trekking and good events will happen for you (like it did for me this week too!).

Types of Goals: Fitness, Games, Drawing, Movies, Reading, Writing
Specific Goals: Lose at least 15 pounds. Finish at least three of the games in my backlog. Draw one picture a day. Go out and see at least one movie a week (alone is fine, but with a group is preferable). Get through my netflix instant queue. Read at least two books. Write a short story
Updates: Weekly
Daily Goals: A picture a day. Netflix movie a day. Go to the gym at least twice a week.
Written Out: Yes
Deadline: August 29 (when fall semester starts)
Fitness: Started a regular workout plan and it's going great. Been eating better (haven't completely changed my diet, but the junk food is at a minimum. Replaced juice and soda with milk and candy with nutrigrain and granola bars. I've had a lot more energy, which has helped in completing my other goals. The only place I'm slipping up is in the "Getting a decent amount of sleep" department. Always a weak point for me as I'm a bit of a night owl.

Games: Been practicing in Marvel, like I said. I started playing Fire Emblem for the DS again too. I'll be honest and say that this goal is probably the one I'm least concerned about completing. That said, I'll keep plugging away.

Drawing: Bought a copy of "Bridgman's Complete Guide to Drawing from Life" and I've been using it to work on my anatomy. I'm working toward making drawing a daily thing. Trying to overcome laziness and all.

Movies: Watched "Eden of the East" and "Boondock Saints". Good stuff. Also saw Green Lantern. Not so good stuff.

Reading and Writing: Been reading "Halting State" still as well as "Drawing from Observation" by Deborah Rockman. Still maintaining my journal.

All and all, it's been a good couple of weeks.

Slacking off, of course!

Actually, I always felt bad whenever I'd make a post after a long while. Felt like a selfish bump. That's no excuse for why I've been gone, but it didn't help anything.

It's JULY now! So I can't really afford to slack anymore.

I'll make sure this thread sees the top of the page every few hours in attempts to remind our fellow slackers that they had goals for the summer!

Gah! I'm sorry about that! 90% of Gaf are men, so I have a hard time not assuming. :-/

I'm going to write a quick update, otherwise I'll forget, I'm getting pretty awful at writing these out. I have some good news and some bad news.

Anyway, fitness is still going well. I went to the gym three times this week. Strength is slowly growing. I cranked out 17 pullups last night. Though, I tried the bench press for my first time, and I can barely handle 45 lb, so I'm going to start slowly working on that in my future visits. I am starting to see the effects of working out, especially when I stand up straight. Damn, I look fine. :-P

I mentioned last week that I had a date, well, the girl bailed out on me. So, I decided to call that avenue as dead, especially since she hasn't contacted me yet. It hurt for a few days, but I quickly got over it when I acquired two numbers within two days. I'll have a connection when I go to University of Florida in the spring. Like I constantly say, you win some, and you lose some.

I finally started to read more, so I feel good about that. Reading an anti-religion book (god is Not Great) and The Game right now. I decided it's time to improve myself in the dating scene. Hitchens is my challenging read while Struss is my fun read. I haven't completed any games this past week, but I'm making decent headway with Shadows of the Damned and Alice: Madness Returns.

I was a little bad and smoked a cigarette this past week, though it's weird since it wasn't a real cig, more of a cigar. I smoked a black, but I haven't smoked anything since. I also decided to quit soft drinks, which is being a true bitch. I have such an addiction to soda, it drives me mad at times! But, I'm enduring the pain! Trying to make a switch to ice/sweet tea. Also, I finally made a switch from white bread to wheat bread. It feels good to be healthy. :-)

I am also going to test out Mystery's Peacock theory in a few days. I'll be dyeing my hair to dark blue and black on the side (think Persona 3 MC). I'm pretty excited to do this! I have a stylist lined up, but I haven't heard from her, since I left her a voicemail yesterday. Going to call her again in the evening, if I don't reach her by tomorrow afternoon, I'm going with another stylist.

I'm sure I could put more things down, but my family is having a fourth of July party, and I don't want to be trapped in my room! I hope everyone is doing well with succeeding in their goals!

Edit: I want to learn how to cook for myself (and eventually for a lady friend). I don't even know how to scramble an egg! If anyone can lead me to a good starting point or give me some tips, I would truly appreciate it. :-)

-Japanese Skill improvment
-Drawing improvement as well

My list was pretty short and I think I failed to really strive for anything substantial. :(

Japanese
I want to strive for Intermediate Level Japanese. I want to communicate and express at least a portion of my thoughts. I have struggled with Japanese for a long time. I want to finally break through and begin speaking properly.

My target date for this is August 31st

Drawing
Like many others here I want to improve my drawing skills more. I have all the books but no confidence or momentum. I plan to draw at least 10 hours a week starting out from here. I will try tackling many different aspects of drawing immediately.

My first goal is to draw 10 hours a week and raise it by one hour every week.

ETC

I also would like to delve deeper into Korean, Chinese, gaming, programming, getting into shape, as well as going out and having fun. Its gunna be a busy summer!

I'll update my status every Wednesday and push to accomplish more!

any Persians on this forum? my Afghan friend sort of disappeared (uh...) so I don't have anyone to help with my Persian! It's not like I can go to Iran...............

Update:

Taking the GREs this upcoming Saturday. Took a practice test and got a 1200, but I know I can do much better than that (especially on Quantitative). Every night this week I'm to take another quiz and try to get my quantitative score up (very important since I'm Computer Science).

Made some very decent progress on my game this weekend. I'm certainly on track to have a vertical slice by the end of the summer.

I got a gig playing bass with a local theater, which should be awesome. The money from it is actually financing a new bass amp.

Username Bloodbeard

Types of Goal
I want to become a more prolific songwriter and build up an extensive catalog of material. I'm not looking to make this a profession or to make a name for myself, I just want to create with my time on earth. I've become docile instead of passionate when it comes to steering the coarse of my life, and to change that...

Specific Goals?
I want to write and demo at least a full albums worth of solid songs before I start school back up.

Updates
Weekly or bi-weekly

Daily Goals
Write and record a song everyday if only to learn to be less self-critical too early in the writing process. Practice with a directed purpose (ie. multi-string bending intonation, chord voice leading, etc.) rather than just messing around and "jamming". While listening to music at work, take notes on parts of songs that I particularly like, so that I can come home and break down what the artists are doing in the context of the piece and incorporate it into my own writing and playing. Keep a pocket notebook handy and force myself to write a couplet or two frequently throughout the day.

Deadline
August 20th

Since I started this a couple weeks ago, I will say that so far I have done really well with accomplishing my daily goals. I've written 3 songs that are probably 90% complete, have about 6 or so half completed songs, and around 20 or so strong ideas that just need to be fleshed out. They aren't all spectacular, but I'm happy with my progress so far and am really getting a buzz out of it.

This whole week was a mess. I had some of the longest most tiring days ever at the army and couldn't do anything. All I could do was chill out when I got back home. I guess weeks like these are gonna happen too even though it's a pretty calm job usually. So yeah, no progress.

I might actually do something in the weekend, dunno. I feel really bummed that I got nothing.
On the other hand though next week is all night shifts so that's 12 hours of nothing for 5 days in a row. I shall study until my head hurts.

My only update is my writing.
I'm knee deep in rewrites and I'm happy to say I'm posting daily comics and getting a few new visitors every day. (http://misadventuresofdeana.wordpress.com - hope this isn't considered spamming)

Other than that...hope everyone else is also on the wagon w/ their goals.
Writing is a beautiful update!

Also, I read the boobs story. It seems you have a hard life.

Lol I don't know what you meant with those last two sentences but the weird juxtaposition had me laughing like a maniac.

Not a single update from anyone?

I didn't really mention my goals in this thread, but I write a new list all the time. Figured I'll mention some of them.

Goals
-Practice taking pictures, shoot video, and practice editing.
-Make some new friends and get out a little more.
-Try to find new ways to make money/look for new job.
-Cook something new.
-Lift weights at least three times a week (focused too much on cardio, so I needed a change)
-Beat best mile time.

Finished
-Shot/edited a wedding video. Took a lot of pictures there. Also my first paid client.
-Contacting/hanging out with my old friends fairly often.
-Making new friends with my co-workers. Planning on throwing a party very soon.
-Already in talks with a second client for a good chunk of change.
-Reached the end of phase 2 in P90X. Working out every day in that program.

Need to finish
-Find something new to cook. Still looking for something, got enough cook books to look through.
-Mile Time. 5:45 is my best on an elliptical, 7:30 on a treadmill. I can easily knock out that elliptical goal since I made 6 minutes the other day with a high resistance. I need to work on the treadmill time though, for some reason that machine tires me out a lot faster.

Once I finish up those two I'm back to writing up a whole new list. Should finish these pretty soon.

Update: Crushed my elliptical mile time by almost a minute. Managed to run it in 4:50 and still had the energy to run another mile after that. Now it's the hard part, the treadmill. I'll give that one a shot in the next couple of days, see how close I can get. I might just plot a route in my neighborhood instead, try to beat my mile time that way.

Update

GRE/Grad School: Took the GRE today. Don't want to make it a bragging thread, but I'm very happy with my scores both in Quantitative (important) and Verbal (nice to have). Now I have to get some letters of recommendation and figure out where I actually want to apply.

Music: Got another theater gig, this one for early August. With the GRE over, I'm busy practicing for the first one, which starts on Wednesday.

I've learned from the GRE that actually scheduling something can sometimes be the only thing to light the fire under my ass so I'll do it. With that in mind, I'm going to sign up for a 5k which will start me exercising again. My family (all the four others in my nuclear family have run races this year, I feel like such a slob) says that doing races in the heat of summer isn't good, so I'm going to aim for early September-ish.

Learning: I am now 3/4 done with the Particle Physics lectures. I'll probably hold off on them until this first theater gig is over, though, so next weekend.

Making progress.
Not as quickly as I would like, but I have to be patient.

Feeling discouraged but going to press forward.
Just need some sort of inspiration or something to come my way. =\

Do you have a link?

The tortoise wins the race, whilst the hare sleeps the days away. People, though, have a mixture of both.. :/

Asimov's collection of robot stories is complete....

Update after a month of no internet:

Well, I haven't done P90x in several weeks due to working all day and having to move into a new home (plus other errands).

That said, apparently the month of P90 I did do had huge results, because I finally got with my friends after not going out for like a month, and everyone freaked out and said I was looking incredibly good. Hugs and kisses from girls saying I'm skinny, etc. XD

Just beat my fastest mile time on a treadmill. Aimed to beat 7:30 and reached 7:10. Got really close to getting under seven minutes but I had to slow down during that last push. I need to try and run outside of often, I am not a fan of the constant speeds on a treadmill. I know I can do even better, especially since this was my first time on a treadmill in weeks (been doing cardio through other machines/programs).

Also came up with some pitches for my client and they loved it. If everything goes well I'll be shooting a commercial for them next week.

Success! I finished the entirety of what's available here and I'm confident I understood all of it and ready to use it (still have to write something though or it just won't stick after a week).

I guess I underestimated just how much I'd be able to read this week (I put this goal for end of August!) so I'm taking it slowly. Next week will be really busy so I won't read anything, just write.

I'm very happy with my progress thus far.

To celebrate I had a "cheat day" today - first time in awhile I've been off the course but right now not caring too much.

Running has become a monotonous chore but whatever I'll keep at it.

I've read a couple more stories even though I've not updated this thread... Still in, though the peak looks really high.

I've finished a short story which I intend to get published. Only thing is, looking at lit mags I'm not sure my style fits with theirs. I feel I'm less prosaic and more 'plotty'.
Oh well, worse they can do is say no so i'm pretty much gonna blanket query, but I wondered if any of U could suggest mags (print & online) that U read and what the general style is.
