The anime is really bad. Might as well read a synopsis rather than watch that.

Pimp cane = Dabes

I mean, it's not great but it covers the story. You could probably read up on it on the wiki but I've never actually checked.

Pimp cane for babies who think they need a cane to pimpin'.
I think I'll try wiki'ing it up, I'm trying to give myself a good first impression.

Banana knows bout dat Pimp cane lyfe

Also, 360, as far as viewer apathy goes, it depends on the viewer. Not everything is for everyone and there's no way to make a character that is objectively good in everyway to every person. That thought process is what leads to Kiritos.
That is probably the worst example you could have used.

People keep saying that. But it's like when someone makes an intentionally annoying character in a series forgetting even and intentionally annoying character is still annoying.
It's not that they're trying to offput the audience, it's that they're a consistent, realistic character, who is meant to exemplify their place in the story.

Having unlikable traits generates empathy more than likable traits, generally. Why you may not feel bad for them, you can feel a better emotion, and understand them better.

Patch can't come soon enough. The Frame Pacing is terrible too.

You always bring the best gifs around.

Not for me, unless their are likable traits mixed in there as well. I don't want my characters just to be likable or dislikable. I want a mixture of both. Which is why I think Eva is flawed somewhat because it is screwed too much to one direction. At least near the end.

That's not the point. It's not a matter of how much you like then that determines whether they're good characters or not. You're free to dislike any character for any reason, but their quality isn't determined by your preference.

An annoying character that's intended to be annoying is still annoying. But that's a successful character. Successful and good characters don't have to be likable, but I would say a character who's only defining characteristic is being annoying is a bad character. The Eva characters have more there than just their negative traits and those are at odds throughout the series.

The problem is the longer the series go on the more their positive traits are phased out. Which is probably why I like the first2/3 of eva compared to the last third. The characters ARE their negative traits. They don't have any other traits from that point on.

In what way? Trying to make your character universally liked does lead to Kiritos.

It depends on the series. Eva is a character study, based around truly flawed individuals. Having well balanced characters would ruin the tone that they were trying to set.

All I want from my characters for them to be well written. It's up to me to determine if I like them.

I disagree vehemently.

I probably went in to watching EVA with really bad mind set. I wanted to get in to mechas for the first time and guess what I chose first as an introduction?
That's right, I fucked up.
