One day I'll subscribe to the giant bomb website so I can watch their mario party LPs and their Metal Gear playthroughs and all their other premium content. Whenever I get a new laptop anyway.

I bought another year because it was discounted. Premium member all through to 2015 baby!

You are correct. One of the most glaring examples I can think of was one clip I saw of him playing MGS2 and was scrolling through the item selection, hovering right over and item with it blatantly telling him how to use it and him just sitting on the screen for like 2 minutes bitching about how the game doesn't tell him how to do anything. -__-

I feel like a lot of LPers are like this, and it's pretty annoying. Your viewers will wait while you figure things out. READ stuff. You don't have to run in guns blazing because you'll probably end up wasting more time fumbling with the controls.

It's a delicate balance and one I have a very small understanding of because when I stream and have viewers I feel a little pressured to keep things moving along so they don't get bored and leave.

It wasn't that bad considering the game doesn't do the best kind of job telling you the weak spot.

A game without a dodge button or quick movement, it goes against common sense to stand in the line of the foe jumping out. Since the main character is slowly than Say Leon form RE4, you think the smart solution would be attack it while it's simply moving around.

That is actually how you should deal with that boss- the trick is to out turn it when it's charging at you, you could also chase after it in the bushes. (Both of which they did a bit of later on)

But credit where credit is due, they showed me another way to deal with it is sniper shot to the head when it's charging would stun him. Likewise I have to commend Pat for killing the boss in the first playthrough- most people would wuss out and escape after getting the glasses.

Yeah, I definitely get that, and I don't think the SBF are offenders for the most part. But I've seen LPs where they actively ignore tutorials/hint screens, do their own thing, and then get confused as to why something's not working... much like your DSP example. Depending on the type of game, playing around with the controls a little is welcome.

I like to think of LPs as someone sitting on the couch and playing next to you. You wouldn't yell at your friend for figuring out how to play the game, right? That's always been my approach to these things.

Thats the reason I stopped watching gamegrumps

I do this all the time.

...why would you do this

I do this all the time.

But you'd probably just poke fun at your friend? Or you'd show them how to play? I know I wouldn't get outwardly frustrated with someone for reading the in-game tutorials for the first time.

And I imagine that's always part of the concern when doing a raw LP versus a second (or later) run LP. You're not going to be very proficient or skillful, and you could very well be clumsy. You also might not get very insightful commentary, but you get all the glorious raw reactions. And along with that, a raw LP will probably be a little slower at the start. I think the sacrifice is worth it. Lately, I tend to like pairings where at least one of the duo has played through the game already (or has previous extensive experience with the series/genre), while the other is experiencing it fresh.

I've actually read that numerous people do this.

It boggles my mind. There is so much lost in the experience when there's no sound. From game design affirmation and reinforcement sounds to a musical score that sets the tone and atmosphere.... all of those things are just gone.

I don't dare do a custom soundtrack unless I've already played through the game.

No but just git gud tho.
Last of Us had sound of course for cutscenes and dialogue. In Dark Souls Aside from a few assholes you met along the way which I listen to when I come across them you don't really need the sound que if you are aware of the environment you are in.

First time through a game it is all the games soundtrack, repeat play throughs on Souls games is my own music or a podcast or a radio show

Also yes that guy has an awful opinion, great sound design is one of the most noticeable things in gaming and I really appreciate it and the tension and feelings that it can bring.

No I get frustrated if they don't do something exactly like how I would do it as in, not optimally.

Yes I'm crazy.

I don't think that's a big deal, then. I know some people use custom soundtracks for everything, every time.

You're a backseat gamer, then. I know the feeling. I admit that I have to restrain myself a lot when watching friends play something, but I always try to limit myself to loose guidelines.

One of the things that irks when others play is when they ask me about something like a character motivation or plot point that gets brought up in the future by the game. I don't even try to answer because it's possible to infer spoilers from just answering with vague body language.

"Hey whose this person?"
"The movie just started"
Everytime watching a movie with my mom. Those people are the worst.

Yeah I totally know how annoying it is. But just imagine you watching someone play DMC3 and they have no clue what they're doing, but they don't want you to tell them anything about the game. Wouldn't that just kill you inside?

My uncle is like that.
Watching Dracula untold
Big dumb action scene
"Wow how's he doing all that stuff, is he magic?"
"You just watched him get turned into a vampire 20 mins ago and the fucking movie is called Dracula"
"Oh this movie is about vampires?"
"..."
"He must be magic or something, a normal human wouldn't be able to do that"

Repeat for every movie for the entirety of said movies, I watched an episode of game if thrones with him in the room and it was the most painful television experience ever for me.

It would and does, but it's happened. Not by choice, but I've watched streamers playing DMC3 for the first time. Part of it is awful, but there are moments of brilliance when they suddenly discover how something works or get past a particularly difficult section.

If someone was sitting next to me and playing? I'd probably have to leave after a little while if I was forced to say absolutely nothing.

The hardest times are when you care or feel strongly about the game being played. I watched friend who had hardly played any non-RPG videogames play Mega Man X and I couldn't stop myself from literally stealing the controller.

I am the worst backseat gamer in real life, but with LPs, I don't really mind.

I absolutely hate this.

I need to watch a movie in silence the first time, except maybe laughter or small reactions. I don't say a thing, and I don't want to hear a thing. I get completely absorbed.

It only gets worse when it comes to anime and my uncultured family.
" Why is her eyes so big?"
"Why is the brother thinking about his little sister?"
"Why is this not considered porn and should not to be shown to my virgin eyes"

Why would you even show anime to your family newguy?
