Super Bowl XLIX |OT| The Butler Did It

I've already contributed to this by praising Brady but I hate how Suberbowl wins or Finals wins seem like they're just ammo for "who's the best player" debates. Seems to belittle the entire game/team.

Right now the debate is real and legit.

If Brady get's a fifth ring there is no debate.

Superbowl victory belongs to the team. Even this game in the end came down to the defense. I am not saying Brady isn't one of the greatest QB's ever. And I am not arguing that Brady worked his ass off in this game. Just that him working his ass off wasn't enough. He needed the guys on the other side of the ball to do their job. There's more to it with SB wins because a lot more goes into that than the QB. That's why you can put guys like Marino is the top 10 QBs ever. Even Manning in the end is going to have a whole lot of well earned records with his name by them.

a really old tv.

IMHO, Patriots defense was the only impressive part of this game. Brady was not impressive at all against an (overall) really poor showing by Seattle's D.

Yeah 13-15 and 2 tds isn't impressive at all.

37/50 for 328 yards and 4 TD's is not impressive? REALLY?

I qualified that with "against a really poor showing by Seattle's D." The coverage was beyond pathetic, Brady basically had 3 receivers open the entire game. You can disagree with what I said (I threw an IMHO in there, in case you can't understand that I'm posting my personal opinion), but at least make an attempt at literacy.

12th man is handling this well I see.

The only two people in the room are recording the "totally unexpected freakout", the guy recording the video we're watching is intently looking at the one person watching the game, nobody else in the room reacts to the historically heart-stopping moment that it was, and Mr. Freakout goes immediately into tackle-the-TV mode, with no "wtf is this shit" that anyone else would do when reacting to the INT.

I mean yeah, hawks fans can be insufferable, but this is very clearly staged.

Maybe but this is well after the interception. Listen to the audio. Clock had just ticked down to 0 so there was processing time.

So Seattle went from #1 D too "really poor" huh? Also don't resort to insults when you make a stupid point and get called out on it.

Well yeah, he hits a old as dirt TV you can get for like $100 bucks now days if you're overpaying. You can still hear the anger in his voice, even if they did stage it for youtube hits.

Seattle's defense was pretty on point the whole game. New England found and exploited cracks in the defense, but they had to fight for every yard.

used to hate Brady, but can't hate greatness anymore.

love this pic.

Uh, yes? Did you see the Greenbay game? Did you see how many players are injured? Did you see the proof on the field?

y u mad tho? I post my random, non-definitive musing on the game and you start a jihad. Chill breh.

Funny that no other team could put those kind of numbers up against this d. you need to relax though, You sound really mad bro.

Edit- lol at you asking why others are mad when you come in here with a baseless opinion (oh wait you qualified it with nothing to back that up), than start flinging insults over somebody disagreeing with you. Trust me i can only speak for myself, but pats fans have nothing to be "mad" about today

I did see the Green bay game, they allowed 6 points total in the 2nd half. What a poor D they had...

Seattle's D wasn't as dominant as last year but poor? No. And they played well in the NFC title game too. Your qb throws 4 Int's and you give up 22 points that's not poor at all

montana beat the bears 28-3.
on the road.
in horrible weather.
against a bears team that was statistically better than this years seahawks D.

so yes, it was more impressive

So because his defense let him front-run all game Montana's 28 points are more impressive than Brady's 28 points?

Brady came back from a deficit, that's a bigger pressure-cooker for a QB, it makes it a more impressive win.

They put up a TD every quarter against a better defense on the road in shitty conditions. You only think yesterday was more impressive because it was yesterday and probably because you didn't see the Bears niners NFC title game

What sucks i that amazing catch will now be overshadowed by that shitty play.

Woah woah woah...scanning through the thread, I couldn't help responding to this beauty.

More like thank God an amazing play(you know...practiced, recognized, executed to perfection) kept another shitty lucky catch from God's children quarterbacks from ruining a stellar performance? Tebow, Eli and now Wilson.

Sooner or later you actually have to learn how to pass the ball consistently in the NFL if you want to win consistently.

I feel relieved, like a weight had been lifted. Brady got his 4th and that's enough to put him in the conversation. It feels like it finally puts 18-1 behind us. It also shut the book on that pesky peyton fella.

I hear you there. I actually respect Peyton and think he's a classy dude though. Can't fucking STAND Eli though, even before the Super bowl losses. In my mind, Brady is definitely GOAT now (though of course an argument can still be made for Montana). Brady wins a 5th and the discussion is done.

Will I think Brady will win a 5th? Highly unlikely. But man, what a night. After ten years he managed to get that 4th. Such a great QB. And Gronk got his ring too! It's just a shame that Welker wasn't here still.

Words can't even begin to describe how happy I am.

The fact that people actually called Tommy washed up at the start of the season. Jesus.

It's amazing all that's happened since they lost to the Chiefs and were 2-2. Simply an incredible run to become Super Bowl champs.

One thing I was wishing when I felt the Pats were down and out....I even made a post about it on the Pats forum was...wouldn't it be amazing if somehow the Pats could come back on a miracle play and give this lucky ass team a taste of their own medicine? And let them lose a heartbreaker. Sure enough...I got my wish and I couldn't possibly feel more satisfied.

Except it wasn't much of a miracle. It was planned by a move only BB would make by not calling a timeout. Prepped in practice. Recognized. And executed to perfection.

I'm happy we got the monkey off our backs and just as glad we could help out the Packers. Honestly I feel they have gotten more fucked over by the Seahawks fluky passes from Wilson, beginning with the robbery during the replacement refs game, which is what started it all for Seattle, all the way into the NFC championship game, having it almost happen to us.

I'm curious to see how far those Tebowesque numbers Wilson has put up in the past 2 games, going for a 0 QB rating in the first half of the NFC Championship game, and then 4/7 in the first half of the Superbowl, will end up getting the Seahawks from here on out, once they pay him big money, pay Lynch, and continue losing out players on the defensive side. Good luck with that style of offense going forward, going for the big play every game, 3-4 times a game. One thing I learned is that variance is a bitch in the NFL, and sooner or later, it will catch up to you at the most unexpected times. Just ask Fluco.

Might be arguments about best QB, but is there any doubt that Bill is the best coach in the history of the game?

Eh, it's a flawed comparison to even try to make considering one QB plays in an era of football where the league gives offenses a rimjob every chance it gets.

Yeah, they just happened to choke in the games prior more often than tom did, right?

Yah I never understood that flawed logic. How the hell can you think getting knocked out earlier in the tournament is somehow better, than winning an NFC or AFC Championship and losing a Superbowl?

Those guys won 4, but they also failed to make the Superbowls the 2 times which Brady did, including going 18-0. They weren't even a part of those contests. When you make it that often, you're bound to lose some as well. For me honestly, not even this ring means as much as going 18-0. Every team wins a Superbowl every single year. Lots of franchises wins multiple. Heck there's franchises that have done it back to back, even multiple times. But only one team has gone undefeated all the way, and only one team has gone 18-0, and it was quarterbacked by Brady. That's a much more rare accomplishment compared to multiple rings, especially in the salary cap era, where there is so much more parity between teams.

I'm not sure if any of this makes Brady the greatest. Anyone could make an argument for any of those guys. You could even make an argument that Rodgers has already had a more efficient career as a passer up to the same point, 2nd only to Brady, and has a chance to outperform him. But as far as accomplishments, leadership, ability to adapt to new styles, players, teams offenses and execute so many different types of game plans....and most of all...ability to overcome adversity both on and off the field and WILL and LEAD your team to a win....there's no one greater than Tom. He's battle tested. He's been up. Down. Out. Back. Down again. And now finally back on top. Can't say that about a lot of those other guys. Joe's never had his heart yanked out twice and asked to come back again and again and keep trying and certainly never had to win under the type of off field pressure Tom's had to deal with, in a social media world. And that counts for something. Like being able to overcome 2, 14 points deficits in the divisional round and a 10 point 4th quarter Superbowl comeback, while having to deal with the media try to smear your image, question your integrity and drag your name through the mud.

Brady's gotten over his demons and moments of desperation. In that 4th quarter Sunday, he was Zen. In that post game conference, I have never seen Tom like that after a win. There was a certain zen-aura in his eyes. A calmness, like he had just achieved wisdom. From here on out, Tom's going to be Zen.

And at this point I honestly feel similar, and don't even care about rings, though I certainly want another. But I just want to keep winning, and having fun watching Tom pass the ball and BB coaching the team, and hopefully keep winning. Any game. That's good enough for me.

And hey...this was our 10 year anniversary since our last Superbowl win. He's not ready to quit, and 2018, will be our 10 year anniversary since our "near" perfect season. Just saying...Zen Tom could be pretty scary...his best performance, in a season, not just a Superbowl, or post season, or playoff game, might have yet to come. His legacy is still being written. He's going to keep adding to that resume. People forget that.
