Super Mario Maker: Not all tools available from the start, unlock over 9 days

will pretty much only play the levels that come with it and maybe whatever is featured as a cover story on some site, so I am OK with this.

So with all this costume unlocking chatter, am I to understand that you have to unlock the amiibo costumes before you can place the amiibo, or can you unlock these costumes to place freely without owning the amiibo in question?

The Amiibo instantly unlocks them, but you can also unlock them in game. It seems to take a while though, considering the comment about unlocking only one costume after one run of 100 man Mario.

It's been said infinite times I'm assuming but let's say I play one day, don't play the next and play the following day

Would it give me two unlocks or just one unlock?

I really wanted the amiibo bundle but NoA got shook of the Mario party 10 amiibo bundles sitting on store shelves so I guess it's not coming here, or NWS exclusive

This is so dumb and unNintendo.

Why not have something like a "Tooltorial"? Plop the player into a situation where they have to use one of the specific unlockable tools to reach a goal or clear an obstacle.

Player starts on one side of a large open pit, they're given koopas + wing tools, "Reach the goal", give enemies items, "Defeat all enemies". Stuff like that, with a full toolrow mix at the end, reminiscent of Rhythm Heaven.

Engage the player through content unlocks. This is Mario Maker developed by Nintendo, they could've done so much more.

Having a timer is so arbitrary. The dripfeed "keep the player's interest over time" strategy just seems so scummy.

This is my favorite post I've read in this thread. Great ideas.

The guy on the stream beat 10 mario challenge and didn't unlock an amiibo character. Getting worried.

I thought it was 100 that unlocked Costume Mario stuff.

We know that Costume Mario is unlocked that way, I believe we also know you get it for playing a level that used it too. No need to worry.

Oh ok. Cool. Amazing if that play a level that uses it to unlock it is true as well. If so I'm searching for a Sonic level as soon as possible.

Some of the levels have really entertaining ideas. Every second one is putting a big grin on my face. MGSV and this in the same month, so good.

And he's confirmed he's only allowed to show certain amiibo. Didn't stop him accidentally revealing Toad though!

Hmm I'm mostly okay with this, but according to NWR... you have to wait to unlock Super Mario Bros 3/World for use in the game

That is a truly baffling omission.

I have a feeling skins are going to be needed to be unlocked as well in editing mode. Guy on stream only had access to SMB/NSMB at the start.

However, my disappointing has quelled a bit with the mushroom making giant enemies isn't restricted on day one.

Edit: Seems setting the clock ahead does unlock stuff. I will set my clock back 9 days when I get the game. Screw you Nintendo!

There are a few ways to get around this limitation, though. You can set your Wii U’s system clock forward to unlock more content (though you have to play roughly five minutes in the game each day to unlock that day’s content and trigger a notification for the next day’s content). So far, I’ve done that to skip ahead a few days, though I don’t know if there will be any sort of Animal Crossing-like penalty when I eventually set my system clock back to normal.
!!!!!!!!!!

GOOD AT LEAST WE CAN DO THIS !
I don't mind that at all will set my system clock about every 10 min then until I have everything.

Still so stupid overall though.

Well since skipping is confirmed, set your clocks to nine days before you buy it so each daily skip just takes you towards the correct date. Then you won't have to worry about any penalty for going back in time.

That is my plan. I will be smart and not upload my levels online until the 20th.

Just to make sure everyone in this thread sees this also going to quote myself here:

GameXplain had a live stream yesterday they unlocked everything by playing 5 min, setting system clock 1 day forward.
Playing 5 min setting system clock 1 day forward etc etc etc, until they got everything.
After that they could still go online and up and download levels

So this good news for everybody, who wants to go at it full right away.
