Super Mario Maker |OT| Miyamoto Simulator 2015

So if this game will ever get "theme" packs, I imagine it'll be Athletic, Fortress and Snow. I'm imagining it coming with the theme and four items to go with the theme.
I would love to see all four. I do kind of expect theme packs as you have here. I'm just curious how robust since generally all four games seem to need reoresentation.

How can you get past Bowser normally? I beat this but had to rely on a triple jump off the dropped bullet bill after I killed him. That can't be how you planned on it?

Thanks! I was trying to make a condensed level similar to Luigi U, but i can see how it could be too demanding for some.

Your Mole Mountain level was fun. Smart pacing with the number of moles when progressing the level. The first one caught me off guard.

I know this is super late (this thread is really hard to stay on top of) but I really appreciate the kind words! People aren't always itching to give feedback when they play a level that's just well balanced so I do appreciate it very much.

Just finished my first "high concept" level design. It took me quite awhile to make, so please try it out if you have time.

It's a take on multiple dimensions, which ended feeling kind of like time-travel when playtesting. Kinda Sonic CD'ish. When I thought of that name, I threw in a Chrono Trigger "cameo" as well. Was going for an intermediate challenge level.

Thought I'd share what I've made so far with GAF. I was going for levels that could be in actual Mario games, with an intermediate difficulty, some of the clear rates are crazy low though, so get those up guys! Feedback is very welcome, and don't pay a lot of attention to the names, I never know what to name a level lol.

There's no way to make simulate swinging vines a la Donkey Kong, correct?

You can place them in a "?" Block and put that on a rail, but you'll have to hit the block to make them and they grow up. I wish you could put a vine on a rail (like how Super Mario had the ropes that worked like that), because that opens up a ton of level ideas.

Overall I'm happy with the product, but there are so many little issues I wish we could create---I hope DLC focuses on little things like that, but I have a feeling it's going to be mainly big aesthetic stuff like new themes over lots of new gameplay enhancements.

I so wish there was a way to edit enemy scripts...nothing complex, but it's a shame there's so few enemies you really have control over. Red Koopas, Piranha Plants, and that's like it.

lol nope... dang what you were suppose to do is get bowser to face the other way so he'll blow the path up for you to get through.

Haha, thanks! I originally had it with regular punctuation but then I went online to check the formatting and noticed Chrono Trigger's was in all caps. I'm blaming Square-Enix for this one.

Have you considered, perhaps adding MORE fire flowers ? Just an idea.

Was fun in a chaotic kinda way, but the final bowser was somewhat unintuitive

Good sense of place here! I’m not big on starting Mario with a mushroom, definite pet peeve of mine. The first half comes across as a bit aimless compared to the interior bit, which is drum tight. Quite good! I should play more of yours. Remind me if I don’t!
Just saw your feedback. I agree that with the starting mushroom in retrospect. The level began with me just toying around with the water tileset before I got inspired, as you probably noticed. The first area will probably be the first thing I redesign in the revision. Thanks for the response!
 
Nice execution, a concept I was considering trying myself. The spiny section feels a bit crowded but there's enough mushrooms that I was able to take a hit and move on. Starred.

I really appreciate your trying my level! I like being pretty generous with Mushrooms, but it does allow for some abuse with invincibility. For the small Spiny section part, if you wait, the wave will reset, and the spacing between them will be large enough throughout the whole wave to jump through them without taking damage with some precision.

Again, thanks for trying it out! I seriously seriously appreciate it.

I was tired of all the easy levels, especially where time doesn't come into play. Really like Super Luigi U with the 100 timer levels, so this is a long level with a time constraint. Also dont throw lots of useless enemies out at you like other designers. Have fun!

This'll be my 7th course (not counting the tutorial), and my 4th in SMB3 style. Stay on the main path and get past Bowser, or take the optional route to Bowser Jr. Too easy? Too hard? Confusing? Get stuck? Let me know what you think. And now I'll check out some levels others have posted. There are so many!

I managed to beat both the NWC levels and the 100 Mario Expert levels. The latter wasn't too bad, as I still had around 25 lives left. I did skip some but I did manage to play some pretty cool levels to finish, too. That was my first time playing harder levels as I would usually just play random new levels or get some Gaffer levels to play. I might try Expert some more, so I can unlock stuff and play some harder levels too.

Also, is there a way to find the levels my friends make, from my friends list?

I gave it a try, my main issue is that it wasn't always clear what was wanted of me there's some weird jumps and stuff in there (and a huge blind jump at the beginning) I'd suggest throwing coins down to lead players in the right direction.

That opening section was pretty neat once I knew what to do, did take a while though, I'd throw a safe version in earlier on so players can wrap their head around it, then get tested later in the level.

As much as people keep making themed levels, like Zelda, Metroid, etc I hope this shows Nintendo can make a whole slew of "Build your own" games based on their franchises.

So I began work on a second level now that I unlocked some stuff. I had a lot of fun making this level but don't think it will be super popular regardless to the normal population. Still, if you feel like exploring a bit and playing with a few routes go for it, couple little secrets in there too :)

I did leave in one obvious thing just because I figured if it would be a shame if everyone missed it, since there is no incentive to really explore since there is no greater overworld map or continuity to the various levels. I didn't realize how important that was to Mario design until now, since the reward of 1ups and other things mean nothing in the end.

Still feel free to comment or critique, or to report if anything is actually broken. I tried to keep it simple and not bloated, but with a couple routes and things to do. The name is sort of a play on one of the side areas.

Edit: Also, is 2 layers the most you can do? I understand limiting is smart but, I got a bit cramped in my space due to the focus on flying in one area.

Whoa...people like you need to be put in prison. :0

That was certainly challenging though---perhaps too much. I think maybe you shouldn't have the initial part rely on a power-up, one that's also hidden, and the placement of the first Hammer Bros. is pretty much sure to either hit you. That was actually the hardest part for me.

Having unlocked the P-switch and World style, I made a P-switch dash level similar to NSMBU star-2 (I think), which was my favorite level in that game.

Difficulty: hard
Description: You hit P-switches and have to run to the next one before the floor vanishes. I tried to make it fair: the only enemies are red troopas and muchers, and there aren't many of those either. This is about quick platforming. There are some vertical sections where you need to jump back and forth as well as some full speed running sections to keep it varied and long enough. I've placed a lot of signs and coins to guide you. The last P-switch has a strict time limit, but the others have a small margin for errors.

I'd honestly rather they just keep improving Mario Maker with content and/or sequels rather than do any of those. Zelda and Metroid especially don't really cater well to it, since they focus on an open world design and not singular levels.

Playing some random levels makes you realize how quickly it is to identify a bad level. The ones that throw all these enemies at you really early and the ones with blind jumps are the really bad ones, especially the former are just plain disgusting.

just fell down a pit but didn't hear the death music. instead, sounds of mario getting into a car, saying "bye bye!" and driving away, then a dog barking, a fly getting splatted and THEN the death tune set in.

I know someone who said they fell down a pit a bunch and then heard
the sounds of doors opening and closing, and muffled Mario noises. They were theorizing it was Mario meeting up with all the other Marios who had fallen down.

A little course starring K.K. Slider! Heavy on jumping, demands precise timing, should be breezy fun for Mario veterans. Flashy ending for our canine rockstar, too!

It's nothing out of this world (much less when compared to masterpieces like Goomba: Sad Tale of Madness, which by all means I encourage ya to put in the video) but I hope you have fun nonetheless! Precision jumps in this one and a hopefully rewarding ending.
