I mean sure maybe in the future where the list would be nearing basic mugen levels, but for a 4 expansion, I think it keeps the 3rd parties diverse.

Sega would've already broke that role with Bayonetta tho.

Sega got Bayonetta & Capcom got Ryu, soooo.......

Looks like people misread my post

I said title, not company. Bayonetta is a different title than Sonic :p

Like Sonic, Bayonetta, and Akira is fine because three different titles (Sonic, Bayonetta, Virtua Fighter), but not Sonic, Tails, Bayonetta.

good thing nobody asked you ;P

honestly I'd rather have that for third parties rather than say, having two sonic characters running around

Per title could also mean per game title like Capcom Vs fighters list Ryu as a Street Fighter rep and Chun-Li as a Street Fighter II rep to differentiate them.

Should have said game series to appease the picky masses.

with that said I'm shocked Bamco has only 1 character in the game

you'd think after co-developing they'd get another

Yeah, but their one character basically is a love letter to their 80s arcade output and Taiko Drum Master, which I'm sure was only possible because Bamco was on board.

But as for who their second rep should be… I'll refrain.

Agumon for shenanigans. But Digimon doesn't really have notable OST.
Valkyrie because she's like their Morrigan.
Zangar Zonvolt because this game needs the best anime swordsman.
Wadadon from Taiko no Tatsujin
etc.

but yeah, I guess they're gonna be like SE.

Tekken is really the only mainstream, world-renowned Namco series besides Pac-Man, but it's such a boring pick. I don't think there needs to be a second Namco character just for the sake of it.

We can fight as a Ridge Racer car!

I think Namco did a good job representing themselves and what they are known for within the game through Pac-Man's moveset, as well as the items and Smash Run enemies (and associated trophies naturally).

There's a few Namco series that I think would be recognizable, and Tekken isn't the only one - Soul Calibur and Tales certainly also could draw in numbers through their names, but I feel like except maybe SC, none would provide particularly interesting characters to play as in Smash, and SC doesn't really fit the Smash series all that well. There's a few non-factor game series or single games that would go well with Smash (Klonoa, Burning Force, Tower of Druaga, Legend of the Valkyrie, XenoSaga, and Wonder Momo), but being non-factors they obviously stand no chance.

Bandai coming in with Digimon would be great though, and is imo the only "big" thing that's left.

Okay, here's an idea that makes sense somewhat kinda maybe. What assist trophy would be likely to become a playable character in a future Smash game? Little Mac proved that dreams aren't always just dreams, after all.

I would also consider Mii costumes, to be honest. But for ATs:
It seems like Takamaru has been heavily considered, and I think he definitely has the best cards at being playable in a future installment. The only reason Sakurai wasn't convinced is that he is from a Japan-only game, but for one, Mysterious Murasame Castle made it to the West via the 3DS' Virtual Console, also was represented in Nintendo Land and by a Mii costume
, and Kamiya also mentioned he'd like to revive the series
. And of course, Marth, Roy and Lucas all were Japan-only characters that turned out to become insanely popular, with Fire Emblem's Western release getting a lot of steam through its exposure in Smash as well.

Other than him, there's certainly several characters who might have a shot, but I don't think any of them are nearly as likely as Little Mac ever was.
That said, the ones that I believe have some semblance of a shot are: Ashley, Dillon, Isaac, Isabelle, Prince of Sable, Ray MK III, Saki, Samurai Goroh, Shadow, Starfy, Tingle and Waluigi. However, for most of these characters, the stars truly have to align in the right way. I also would have to point out that Isaac, Ray and Saki could easily be replaced by a new lead character if there's a new installment of their respective series.

I don't think any of the others are likely at all.

Edit: Oh yeah, I forgot about Dark Samus. She's also in there.

I'd main him.

Edit: Okay, the AT in Brawl isn't exactly the same thing, but still.

Yo, wait, I missed an Agumon discussion? I know Lloyd and Heihachi are further in line for Namco reps, but seeing Agumon take on Pokemon characters would be like a childhood dream, and Pokken seems to like taking characters I want away from me (RIP Hawlucha)

Agumon for shenanigans. But Digimon doesn't really have notable OST.

I mean, it has a couple of songs here and there. I mean, Digimon World had File City (Night) and the boss music, which was good enough to be remixed in Next 0rder. Most likely, we'd get Cyber Sleuth & Next 0rder music, though. Especially if one gets a Switch port.

... Speaking of which, going back to my mad prophecy about early Switch supporting 3rd parties potentially getting reps meaning weirdness like Dovakhiin, Junko Enoshima, and Scorpion, TellTale's on that list. Does anyone think Sam & Max are video game-y enough to get into Smash Bros., despite their comic book origins? Not trying to push for them to cross us into the Goku threshold or anything.

Actually... You know what is closer to Nintendo (i.e. Pokemon) than Digimon?

Godzilla!

I want Godzilla in Smash! And because he has appeared small, he can have that scale! And it'd piss off Ridley fans too!

I doubt any of those characters would be in Smash. Mortal Kombat and Danganronpa are way too brutal (and the latter is pretty obscure). Sam & Max is full of mature humour and euphemisms, I somehow doubt Nintendo would want that. And I don't really consider the pair to be fitting otherwise, since they're comic characters, rather than video game characters. The only franchise I can remotely see is Elder Scrolls but... I dunno, it would feel -wrong- to me.

I feel like Bayonetta is the furthest we're gonna go in terms of maturity for both violence and sex (and she's just very sexy; Sam & Max has jokes like "Prison showers. Man if these walls could talk." "I think it's better if they'd keep their mouth shut.").

How is Godzilla a Namco character?

Bandai is the current license holder for Godzilla video games and merchandise. It's not their actual IP though to my knowledge.

*Remembers Activision (which I'll assume includes Blizzard) is a listed development partner*

Not that it's likely, but I wonder how people would feel about Mei from Overwatch entering Smash. She's not the face of Overwatch -- that'd be Tracer --, but I figure Mei's the more memorable of the two for all the times she's slowly inserted icicles into people's eye sockets. More importantly, creating platforms and barriers is an underutilized concept in a platform fighter and I figure Mei can bring something new to Smash in that regard. At the very least, I see her being a fun doubles character, walling people out, creating additional platforms to jump/up-air chain off of, saving teammates about to fall to their death by giving them something to land on, etc. through ice walls alone.
-
At the same time, I'm thinking "Shit, who the hell do we replace her with if she's loved in Smash 4 but we can't get her into Smash 5 because reasons?" Do...do we separate the Ice Climbers? IS THIS HOW WE GET (one of) THEM INTO SMASH 4!?!?!?

SHREK WHEN???

NEVER, buuuut on a related note, maybe it's just me, but does anyone feel there aren't enough heavyweights in the roster? Not that that's a good justification to just throw a character in there, but despite knowing there's more than Bowser and DK, I always feel like they're the only two in there. :s

Surely a Skylander would be more likely for Smash if an Activision character were to ever get in seeing as that series has pretty strong ties with Nintendo.

I'm still surprised that Excitebiker isn't playable yet. Excitebike is a multi-million-selling game designed by Shigeru Miyamoto, there have been a few sequels, and it's still referenced in other games like Mario Kart 8. It's one of those retro games that everybody knows about. Excitebiker would be the perfect mix of unexpected and sensible, like Duck Hunt and Wii Fit Trainer.

I always forget about that franchise. Don't know who'd get in though as I don't know anything about it beyond "It's Activision's other moneymaker not named CoD". lol

he wasn't

but his creation studio has strong ties with Pokemon

Toho works with the Pokemon Company?
