Super Smash Bros. for 3DS and Wii U Thread 5: Yarning for Yoshi

I had no clue it'd be so difficult to find a 2 GB SD Card for Project M.

Anyway, I've got all the stuff ready, so here goes my foray into Project M! Any other recommended mods?

I had to steal the one from my original 3DS. It's horribly inconvenient.

Check out Brawl Minus if you get a chance. Every character is intentionally overpowered, and it's pretty amusing. And in general just look at whatever costumes you can find and pick out whatever you like. Honestly though, P:M is all you really need.

I actually found a double pack at Walmart for less than ten dollars not too long ago, I ended up using one of those for Project M.

Big chains tend to have bad electronics.

Can I ask how you came to this conclusion?

I dunno, I assumed riddley was going to replace him. Seriously though, its more of a gut instinct than anything and also wasn't there talk about limited amount of characters since the 3ds wiiu version would have the same pool of characters?

I was just kidding, I don't follow this thread much, but I though there was some running gag with riddley or something.

I see, my bad.

I assumed your "gut instinct" was referring to Ridley replacing Meta Knight, but I see now.

I wouldn't worry about Meta Knight. He's completely safe. He was the first Brawl newcomer revealed, he's on Brawl's box art, and he's a really popular character in general.

Its fine, also thanks for the the specifications Ryce.

I think you missed half of that post.

So, when adding custom music and characters mods/stages, you have to overwrite an existing one, you can't add them in without deleting a song?

I did this a while back and I use the gimped PAL version, but basically you substitute files. Well I originally did it to replace the Sonic tunes so I wasn't bothered. Basically there's a application called Riivolution where all you need to do is name a file the same as it is on the Brawl disc, have a text file saying where said file is located on Brawl disc and where it is on the SD card and the application swaps the files on the fly. This is the easiest method (especially with PAL)

I recall there was apparently ways to expand the number of stage slots but I haven't looked into it for a while. I believe it used Gecko codes which is why it had problems with PAL.

Is that the pokefloats 2 I've seen on youtube or a melee version? Either way I'd be down to replace Castlevania stage with almost anything else. I like Castlevania but why is that in an "official" mod release? So if I simply delete the wario ware stage file the game will still play the same and have classic wario ware stage?

I have both Poke Floats and Poke Floats 2 and I use them interchangeably because what's the point in having 2 identical stages?

Pokemon Stadium are very different mind you guys.

But if you wanna fix Wario Ware, just delete the Wario Ware .pac files in the /stages/melee folder and delete the .rel file from the modules folder for Wario Ware then you SHOULD be good to go and ready to play Vanilla Wario Ware.

If you want to replace stages, make sure you have the proper rel file and know which stage you want to replace. If you want to get fancy with it, you'll also need to replace the stage portrait just so you can remember that you replaced Castlevania.

EDIT: Is there any way we can make a Brawl Mod thread to let people know how to add textures, skins, stages, and music to Brawl. We can use Project M as a template since they've already laid that out for you. If not, refer to Brawl Vault and Project M Smashboards forums to learn how to do it.

It's relatively easy, adding models and textures but you have to be careful because you need to also replace the Character portraits and icons and keep those at the same dimensions because those can easily freeze a game if messed up.

Use Brawlbox and Brawl Song Manager as those are the easiest to use. Brawl Costume and Stage Manager can easily cause freezes if you don't know the dimensions beforehand.

Can you help me find this Pokefloats 1? I can't find it at all :(

Can't find it, it got taken down. I'll see if I can upload the original rip from Melee but if you wanna play with it now, Poke Floats 2 is literally the same thing with some new models like Kirlia.

Pokefloats 2 just looks really dark which is why I've been iffy on adding it

I suppose a Brawl mod thread wouldn't be such a bad idea. Of course try to keep it about modding in general to avoid conflicts of the best ways to play Brawl. Just a link to Project M, Brawl- etc would be enough.

Obviously there are some things you can't share such as the original Brawl files which can make modding Brawl a nuisance (especially for PAL gamers). So many .rel file substitutions I've had to perform to get stages working.

I suppose we could put together a starter pack of out favourite fighter textures, stages (and maybe music depending on the rules) to get people started.

They can take it all to the Project M thread, if everyone would prefer it. It doesn't bother me, really. Especially on the slower days, like this. The thread can sit, and we talk about the dog watching TV, or let them talk about Brawl retaled items. which is just as interesting.

I'm gonna learn how to rip and model myself, for Brawl/Project M hacks. Starting with some KAMEN RIDER action.

Update is shit considering this is the first actual 3DS shot in two weeks. Though still better than the BS Wii U Pyrosphere hole.

Oh well, can't wait for the next 3DS shot in a few weeks time.

Not trying to back seat mod, but the thread could do without this...

Trying to start some crap with flamebait crap.

EDIT: I'm only saying this cause the past weekend was terrible with pointless arguments. We don't need to start those up again.

Well Brawl modding isn't quite the same as Project M, especially since Project M in some ways aims to be a simple one file operation whereas general modding can deal with lots of files. Also making it a general thread would attract those who are not interested in Project M.

I'd probably have to go back into researching this stuff because maybe the PAL situation has improved, otherwise I'd be happy to put together a PAL guide for Riivolution, though I'll have to jog my memory on the names of certain files (if I recall changing the names of songs required editing a subfile within the menu file)

Wow. I literally thought "Hey this would be a funny story since lots of people were let down by Sakurai taking a screenshot of the background dog", and now I'm being demonized.

I don't know if this is going to make you feel better or worse, but dude, I have no idea who you are and I had no clue what post/joke you were even talking about until you replied to me talking about it. My post was not focused on you in the least; it applied to every horrible, entitled fan who bitches about every daily pic that isn't a new character or stage reveal and/or talks about how Brawl was some horrible failure that Sakurai should be ashamed of and/or how Sakurai should be making Smash 4 JUST FOR THEM and the other people who play Smash like them, and if he doesn't Smash 4 will suck and he can go die in a fire.

If you're one or all of the above like so many in the Smash "fan" community are, then yes, my post applied to you. If you're not, then it doesn't! Either way, my post was not specifically demonizing you at all.

Well please keep me informed, I'm really loving project M and loving sword ganondorf mod which was easy enough to add

Will do, but really Poke Floats 2 is the same thing, minus some model animations.

Gyarados's texture is darker but there's nothing you can't fix with photoshop and making things lighter.

Poke Floats 1 works, it just glitches and freezes sometimes because the model animations sorta don't work with Brawl and getting those animation frames and bones to work 100% take a while. Project M faces the same problem when making new movesets and animations.

Modding and compiling takes hours, but it's worth it I guess if you wanna play as Rainbow Dash Falcon, Eva Unit 1 Snake, or Madoka Pit.

Definitely not trying to start anything, with that. I think you may have read into that wrong, good sir.

Yea, it can be interesting at times. Again, if everyone feels it should be discussed somewhere else, they can try another thread (like the PM 3.0 thread, since everyone there is pretty versed in Brawl modding). Again, either way I'm not too pressed.

Welp, Project M is awesome.

Fourside + Kamen Rider Joke Mod for Falcon + W.B.X Custom Soundtrack. :0

So I did a bit of quick research and yeah it seems PAL modding hit a standstill. Well the Riivolution method still works for easy vanilla modding. I haven't personally experimented with character attribute files (well I did once play breifly with Brawl Minus but it was rather incomplete) so I don't know how easy it is to manually port them over to the PAL version oneself but other files like stages, fighter skins and music should all be doable.

I'm worried about Sakurai. It seem that he got confused by fans' demands. like, "How can I make the game good for kids since I thought Brawl was amazing game." Or He isn't sure what path Smash series should go on.

I'm not worried about it, but I'm worried about Sakurai being overwhelmed by the choices, etc.

Likewise. You can tell that he really invests all of his time and energy in the creation of a title, and the fact that he has been tasked with appeasing every single Nintendo fanboy and fangirl with this one title must only amplify the pressure he feels.

Stay strong, Sakuraaaaaaiiiiiiiii. <3

Hi, my Brawl friend codes is 1679-2041-2183. If you give me yours we can add each other maybe get some online matches. I'm on the west coast. I play wi-fi through my Wii U with Brawl and Mario Kart. I don't play PM that much.

Brawls online was dogshit when it came out. Probably the single most disappointing thing Nintendo has ever done.

Mario Kart Online is still simple and fun.

If you try to connect to anyone on Brawl, do you actually find someone? Seems to me like it's always searching an opponent.

Are there a lot of people on Project M?

I just can't imagine the online being that great here 6 years later.

A tremendous wasted opportunity.
