Super Smash Bros. for 3DS and Wii U Thread 5: Yarning for Yoshi

Wow Mac that's fucking bullshit you don't punch the ref

hehehe

Pretty much. Helps that Mii and Pac-Man are fairly obvious choices too. After seeing Mac I think Samurai could give Pac an equally cool moveset.
While I don't doubt Sakurai and co's ability to give Pacman a moveset, you have to admit giving a boxer a moveset in a fighting game is a bit easier than giving one to a pellet muncher.

The E3 prediction/leak is notable for many reasons.

By way of background, it was posted here at GAF, by a member who hasn't commented on it since, right before Nintendo's E3. It had Villager, Mega Man, Wii Fit Trainer, Little Mac, Pac-Man and Mii.

Villager was considered unlikely at the time, since Sakurai had previously used him as an example of a character NOT suited for Smash Bros. Thus, most people in the SSB community ruled out Villager.

Mega Man was also considered unlikely at the time, since the franchise is all but abandoned by Capcom, so most people in the SSB community reasoned that Mega Man wasn't "relevant enough" for Capcom to allow him in Smash.

Wii Fit Trainer wasn't suggested by a single other soul on the Internet. To my knowledge, the six-newcomer E3 leak is the only one to have mentioned Wii Fit Trainer.

The above three were then revealed at E3. Each with their own individual trailer. Which makes one wonder -- did Nintendo originally plan to show the other three, as well, but was able to withhold them due to the piecemeal nature of the trailers? It's true Sakurai had an explanatory trailer exploring Mega Man, Villager and Wii Fit Trainer, but such a trailer could be edited easily enough.

The other three characters -- Little Mac, Mii, and Pac-Man -- all seemed plausible, given all of the other factors since then: The Wuhu Island/Pilotwings stage and Find Mii stage for Mii; the boxing arena, now confirmed to have been a Punch-Out stage all along; and Pac-Man is Bandai-Namco's mascot, and one of the most legendary videogame characters of all time, a great-granddaddy of the industry who has recently appeared in two Mario titles and also headlined Pac-Man Vs., arguably the prototype for the WiiU concept.

And now Little Mac is confirmed.

For the E3 prediction/leak to -only- "guess" Villager, Mega Man, Wii Fit Trainer, Little Mac, Pac-Man and Mii, when half of those were considered extremely unlikely or never thought of by the SSB community at large, and when any other faker would've thrown in more obvious candidates like Ridley and Palutena... Well, it seems likely the leak was real, and all six were considered for E3.

Well at least Nintendo got the super meter concept down. I was hoping that would show up in some shape or form.

I hope that the meter builds slowly or that it entirely depends on your combo.
A guaranteed OHKO at 0% seems to be over doing it. Imagine playing Team Battle and some dude grabs your opponent, you literally get a free kill from Mac.

Balancing Ideas:
-Meter decreases with each time you're hit
-When you KO meter resets
-Meter gradually decreases and only increases as you combo.
-Suggestions.

Mac's pretty cool in that he's basically Street Fighter Dudley with a Titan transformation.

His recovery seems horrible at first but that's only if his side-B leaves him helpless in the air.

Mac has quirks but he's definitely not an edge type character. I see a good ground metagame and a decent air meta game. From the footage, Little Mac can probably be countered by aerial characters like Jigglypuff and Pit. Marth, assuming that he's still top tier, would also seem like a soft counter against Mac.

I am so so so so so sooooo happy that they chose to go with a boxing angle that played up agility over being a bully in matches. Dudley > Balrog.

As for your theory analysis, I actually imagine Marth to be one of his worst matchups unless he goes Hulk. Dude will be running into pokes all day and he doesn't look to have anything to contest with Marth's aerials.

I’ve got to be honest — on the whole, I like SSB4’s first five newcomers a lot more than Brawl’s.

Also it is one of the few leaks to follow the golden rule: less is more. No long winded explanation, no long list of random leaks that have no correlation to each other, just a list of six names and nothing more.

As for the stage, I still suspect the graphics from the previous appearances will be in the final game and either one can choose to switch between the two (like Soul Calibar II stages), it's random, or it only becomes a Punch-Out stage when Little Mac is present.

I dunno, Mii is near the top of my most-wanted list. As long as they don't try to stuff customizable movesets in there... I think there's a TON of potential for unique Mii stuff and considering how ubiquitous they are in modern Nintendo games and consoles it seems like a huge oversight to leave them out.

Pac-Man I'm ambivalent on. On one hand he's SUCH an icon and would really fit in perfectly with the rest of the cast, but on the other, as much as I hate to hop on that bandwagon, I don't see much they could do with him that's interesting. But I figure he'll make it in either way so, y'know, I can roll with it.

I feel pretty much the same. I've never been a "fan" of Pac-Man, but everyone loves and remembers Pac-Man at the same time. He doesn't really have a personality (though he might do in those newer games idk), and he doesn't really fight except...eating things. I would love to see him spar with the likes of Sonic and Mario, just I don't know what his move set could be.

In terms of the Mii concept, I think since Brawl, and the Wii, Mii's have become a mainstay and have been shoved into many Nintendo and third party titles now, it'd be almost shocking not to see them in the game somewhere. I don't know they'd tackle a custom move set system, but in other fighting titles those kind of customisation options have felt boring and unsatisfying to take advantage of, for me anyway, and I'm guessing syncing that Mii character between your 3DS and Wii U systems could be what Sora are going for with the connectivity thing they've mentioned in the past.

And to comment on Mac - I am so happy he got in. He's one of the most deserving Nintendo characters to be part of the roster, and it looks like they've nailed it with his moveset as I was worried he might look a bit boring. I was thinking of starting P-O Wii this week as well, so this has made me really happy.

It seems like information may be trickling out a bit faster now, since it seems we're getting character announcements fortnightly on average, instead of just monthly, and the first actual screenshots of the HUD and stuff. I hope it's a summer release and not autumn or winter, because I'm already dying to try it out.

For the record I'd like to think the reason I'm still averse towards the leak is that I have to set my expectations lower and expect what is in my opinion lesser inclusions like Mii and Pac-Man over some more exciting reps but that's just me :lol

The question now is, who is that leaker...

was it, Sakurai-san!?

Cross-post from the other thread, but in case anyone needed more hard evidence that the ring was indeed a Punch-Out stage, here's another comparison shot of the Smash-generalized ring compared to the one in the trailer adorned with the Punch-Out World Circuit and WVBA logos. Wonder if they will alternate?

I'm hesitant to say hard counter since I have no idea if Sakurai will fuck up my beloved Marth. But if he's still good relative to the roster then Marth would definitely wreck Little Mac.

Although Mac has speed and knockback, his spacing doesn't seem good at all and any combo consisting of F-airs, B-airs, or even spikes will be lights out for Mac.

I'm only worried really worried about his OHKO move. Considering Mac's playstyle, I think he'd be best against fast fallers and larger characters. Floaty characters would be a lot harder to combo off of.

If it were Spacies against Mac, I can see Mac having the advantage so long as Fox/Falco/Wolf's Shine doesn't return to Melee status. I hope the shines get buffed but Mac seems to be a good character against big, heavy, fast fallers.

I think Sakurai might add a feature similar to Project M's stage strike where you just press X or Y on a stage and the stage changes to it's alternate form.

Assuming that both Pokemon Stadiums return, I think it's a great use to add extra stages. I could be completely wrong and Sakurai could have just changed the stage textures just so that people don't think it's Mac's stage until his reveal.

Little Mac. A Champion of gay men everywhere.

So much muscle it hurts... We finally have a character to gender balance all the Waifu'ing around here.

Same here. I like Pit a lot. But Mega Man and Little Mac have been my all time favorites from my childhood.

So now that we've seen enough footage of X to confirm that it's definitely a Xenoblade successor in spirit if not in story, Shulk seems just a smidge more likely.

I'm talking about the Palutena leak.
Yeah I guessed, and I'm saying we've already seen said formations in a lot of official screenshots. It's not a WOAH CRAZY NEW THING! My ridiculous overthinking cloud analysis even mentioned those rock formations. I've look at these screens far longer than I'd rather admit to, I know what I'm talking about.

Awesome reveal trailer.
Little Mac looks like a beast to main but his recovery puts me off the character.

How can he hold items when he's wearing boxing gloves.

Magic?
I got nothin.

If they can make Little Mac of all people look interesting, they can definitely work their magic on Pac-Man.

Miis...now that character should be a challenge to make viable for Smash if the leak is true.

I imagine we'll get around three veteran reveals before our next newcomer, assuming they have another big ND in two months. Maybe Diddy, Yoshi and...Ness? I dunno.

I'm curious about the arcade picture with little mac and DK. I know its supposed to be a nostalgia thing but I get this distinct feeling that there may be more to it. Maybe a minigame like break the targets or some new side feature for the game.

Id say regardless of whether the rumor list/leaker is valid, Pacman and Mii are likely. The more unbelievable characters were Megaman, WFT and Villager. Pacman will kinda complete the Mario, Sonic & Megaman thing going on and Namco is working on the game. Mii also from the beginning seemed likely. He could use various moves from Wii Sports, Nintendoland, etc. His down special or regular special could be him rolling a bowling ball. It could be chargeable which would affect speed and damage and unlike other projectiles in smash it would roll to other platforms below adding in some clever strategy.

I predict the other new characters in Smash will be:
Palutena
Ridley
Mii
Pacman
Takamaru
Mewtwo
Dixie or Cranky
Chrom & Lucina (or another FE:A rep)
New Zelda rep

Bringing the newcomers to 13/14 depending on how you view Mewtwo.

Something that I notice from the trailer is just how heavy the gravity is compared to Brawl (including more hitstun). Little Mac also appears to be quite a fast faller too, which really doesn't help his already poor recovery, but makes him seriously fast on stage.

Either way, this system looks so much better than Brawl.

Since the thread is moving very fast so I'm going to repost my post.

Alright I'm going to post what I'm seeing from the trailer.

1. Do Little Mac's speed look fast as if it's melee speed? It seem so fast for me when I watched the trailer.

2. I think he might have combo mechanism which would allow him to make few different moves from one special attack I noticed that he have two running attack so I wonder if he can use running + Side B or so.

3. I like how they are going to reuse Punch Out Wii U stage for 3DS stage since he don't have any game on handheld if I remembered correctly.

4. Look like you have to hold CHARGE for Instant KO, instead of building up bar. I would rather to building up the bar over charging for instant ko.

I’ve got to be honest — on the whole, I like SSB4’s first five newcomers a lot more than Brawl’s.

Same here, even Snake and Pit are my favorite characters. SSB4's first 5 newcomers have diverse in their move sets that what made them even more interesting to me.

Are these the same moves?

My theory is that the first image is ground side-B, and the second is aerial side-B, but with the second gif it's now harder for me to believe he jumps immediately before triggering the side-B.

In that case, what is the first gif's attack? It's too quick to have been a counter (it didn't make the noise for the counter in the trailer either), his neutral-B attacks appear to be straight punches until the OHKO, and it looks like side-B always make him hop.

So Mac's move set looks something like this correct

B = Chargeable dash punch with super armor
Side B = Lunge attack that leaps behind projectiles
Down B = Counter
Up B = Upper cut
