Super Smash Bros. for 3DS and Wii U Thread 5: Yarning for Yoshi

So far, Wii Fit Trainer is the most recent character right?

mhm. Rosalina is the closest second since she's a month older. I don't think there's even any more recent characters Smash worthy characters than WFT aside from Pokemon and FE characters. Even Mii is older than WFT.

I am SO pumped to play Little Mac.

His moveset looks incredible and his punches look incredibly satisfying.

Joint best fighter so far next to Villager, IMO.

i always forget how big SSB's roster is. How many vets left unconfirmed?

Taking Brawl's roster, 19 - Diddy, Yoshi, Wario, Sheik, Ganondorf, G&W, Ice Climbers, ROB, Zero Suit Samus, Meta Knight, Falco, Wolf, Captain Falcon, Jigglypuff, Pokemon Trainer, Ike, Ness, Lucas and Snake.

Didn't count the individual Pokemon as independent characters since they likely aren't going to be revealed individually, but Sheik and Zero Suit might be.

I wonder if they're going to start pumping out character reveals at a more rapid rate. It certainly seems like they've been going that route the last few weeks.

I'm trying to browse the pic of the day minus gallery but if you left/right it just goes completely out of order because of Minus' completely idiotic sorting algorithm based on the size of the comments. Sigh.

Watched the Little Mac trailer again. When he does those exercising activity's with Doc Louis he stops at "101".

Hint at Wonderful 101?

I noticed that a few pages ago.

Normally I'd think it's just a coincidence, but this is Sakurai we're talking about.

I can imagine it now, the W101 playable, & their B move is Unite Morph where your can change the lead character by drawing their formation with either stick, thus impacting their normals & other specials.

You know who's a 3rd party character I would die for to see in Smash?

Speaking of Shulk, I've watched that X gameplay during the Direct and it seemed pretty boring to me. What's that hype all about? lol

not to derail the thread..well I'm not cause it is nintendo related/one of the speculated characters for smash
your post just makes me very bitter
-_- you should play Xenoblade then. Just think Xenoblade meets futuristic mechs in a fantasy world.Where the scope is probably twice as big as Xenoblade world's which is fully explorable as much as you want
and here's some gifs ..because gifs

Anyways... yeah, I'd love to see Shulk in Smash Bros. He's the second character I want from my wishlist. The only returning character I want announced again is Ness or Lucas and I'm still waiting on that. My first character I wanted, was just announced... Lil freaking MAC!

OK. That looks pretty and all, but what is exciting about it?
I mean, I'm not a big fan of RPGs, so maybe the excitement just eludes me due to me not really enjoying the genre.
I think I'm also the only person in the world who doesn't care about mechs.

Xenosaga is a very popular rpg with rpg enthusiasts.

This is zeno saga with mechs, more of what they want with more things they love on a larger scale.

i said it..being able to EXPLORE every inch and corner of this huge vast world with nothing to stop me. I love exploring shit and X's world looks so soo good and wonderful that I just wanna walk from the first part of the map to the end. RPG's aren't mostly about combat, but if you wanna progress you should expect grinding or questing etc. + this game looks like it has online which is even more exciting, to being able to explore the map with friends fight monsters etc.

Sooo SmashGAF, who's down for some Project M online tomorrow before we kick off the NeoGAF Project M Tournament?

Gimme time zones and times free cause I'm hyped to scratch that Smash itch.

Please.

I'd like to play. Where do I go for the tournament?

I'm Central Time btw.

GIF OF THE DAY is back with a VENGEANCE, and one of the most disgusting, DISRESPECTFUL smash combos I've ever seen:

marthrampagev4jrz.gif

God DAMN.

Yeah, and wrecking Fox is fun to me because of his fast falling speed, it also makes for the flashiest combos. The start-up on his recovery also makes it a blast to go for the kill if he's off-stage too. Marth loves Fox!

That said, I just love playing as Fox (second only to Marth for me). He's such an awesome character that has so many options. He's so creative.

As a Marth main, I really have to agree with all of this. Hey, actually here's a good question for SmashGAF. What is it about your main(s) (3 maximum) that you enjoy most in how they play?

Bonus question: What would your main say about yourself/your personality?

Marth has been my absolute favorite fighting game character since 2001 just because of his movement, how he controls space, and the idea that he can transition from defense to offense at the drop of a hat. Someone else said it best that he's a "shark" character where he utilizes great movement to close gaps on someone to take advantage of a mistake or use said movement to put them into continuous back to back feints conditioning them and forcing their hand (an aspect of competitive gaming I ADORE). His spacing game is also the most fun thing ever where you're constantly looking out for the max range on his normals and slowly but surely over time reaching a point where you don't even need to consider it anymore, the spacing just happens.

Pit represents my love of "jack of all trades", mobility, and a stupid projectile or two. While I'm probably going to speak more from my Project M experience with the character, even in Brawl, I knew that I had found a "second" the instant I completed my first arrow loop. Project M emphasized his speed and air control while also giving him the funkiest combos I've seen in anything Smash or platform fighter before. He's like some weird hybrid of Jigglypuff, Falco and blade normals and it's great.

Lucas/Fox: Lucas was honestly one of the more surprising characters in how I took to him. It was something about how quickly he could pour on damage, his movement speed (while not the best overall, it was fluid enough), and his buttons (I've always liked normals with the electrical hitstun/hit effect added to them) that got me to consider him as my third overall. In Project M, while he received substantial boosts, I found myself kind drifting from him (not permanently) in order to learn Fox. Fox is one of my favorite Nintendo characters (Star Fox 64 was life for me as a kid) and after years and years of Smash high level footage involving the space animal, I decided it was time to "git gud" with him. He's a very hyper aggressive and gottagofast character so I can see the appeal immediately, but he also has wild swings of momentum if you are as new to it as I am. In a way this kinda reminds me of learning C. Viper in Marvel 3 when I had zero fighting game execution to begin with. I'm determined to stick it out though, fun character is fun when you get bursts of how he should play shining through your messy flailing.

Pro Tip: Keep your control stick down most of the time while playing Space Animals.

SHFFL is good for spacing and getting quick damage, but you're better off waveshining than that.

Keep the stick down while you jump with X or Y, it makes wavedashing much easier.

Once you get the hang of that, you can shine right out of a wavedash and you can continue waveshining by jumping out of shine, wavedash, and rinse and repeat.

It takes practice but once you master short hopping, fast falling, and L-Cancelling, you're golden and you'll be able to focus on your metagame style.

Man, I was just about to see if I could find some tips to learn Fox with (waveshines in particular) and then this happened. As soon as I tried the first tip, I already did WAY better than ever in attempting them. Still need to get used to Fox's timings though, I hate that he's the only character I can't wavedash with consistently . I still get too many jumps into air dodges downward instead of gliding on the floor out of the first frames of his jump.

I also wonder why I'm so inconsistent with his L Cancels when Marth's and Pit's are second nature to me and Lucas is damn near easy mode.

Alright, thanks guys. One stupid question though: What buttons should I be using for Aerials and L-Cancels? I've just been using the C-Stick and Z, but that's probably wrong. I'm maining Marth if that's useful at all.

When I play on a GCN, I just stick to the usual defaults, wave dash and L Cancel with L and I use "throw out" Smashes (I.e. Smash attacks with the intent of surprising more so than getting a knock out) with the C stick.

Not wrong at all, L-Cancels should definitely be done with the L or R buttons hence the name L-Cancelling.

I'm guessing you main spacies, if so, for Aerials you want to only use the C-Stick when you're doing B-Airs or strings of U-Airs. Keep that C-Stick ready for a quick F-Smash or Up-Smash to punish your opponent.

When edgeguarding, it's ideal to use the C-Stick for your B-airs so that you don't lose your momentum when you're attacking off stage. Spacies are fast fallers and one wrong buttong and you're dead.

Spacies benefit a lot more from the A-button because you can hold down and shine right away. You combo for Fox would be D-air, L-Cancel, and immediate shine.

If you played Peach or another character, you'd use the C-stick more often. It depends on your character and your playstyle.

Good to hear. That being said, I think I'm going to invest in a Mayflash and new GCN controller soon. I learned all of Melee's technicalities thus far with a Wii Remote + Nunchuk combo and I miss the C-Stick enough to want to do this. :lol

try asking on the IRC tomorrow, whenever I check back there somebodys fighting eachother in a match

The PMBR needs to hurry up and release that launcher update that switches things between the Full and Online code sets. I want in on this but cant be assed to switch again, especially since I dunno what it'll do to my textures and custom music. /lazy

Red Arremer, don't worry I'm not excited for X either. I mean, it looks good and all I guess, but it's probably not my kind of game. Not very huge into JRPGs either. I have Xenoblade but I didn't really play it... only got it out of impulse because I knew it was gonna be one of those undershipped games that will become too valuable. Silly decision from me since I've later realized it's a long RPG and I don't have the patience for those.

The battle system of X looks pretty boring but the sheer scope of the game looks amazing, the trailers are extremely hype themselves, having Hiroyuki Sawano as the games composer is helping it alot.

As good as Shulk would be in Smash I still want Takamaru more.

My 3 mains have switched in each game , currently haven't played enough of Project M to form an opinion

Smash 64

Kirby- he's completely filthy in this game, his copy powers are at there strongest in this game and his down a air spike is broken, if you get sent into the air you're dead

Captain Falcon- fast, power, shows his moves, and is just a ton of fun to play

Ness/Jiggly- I used to play ness more when I was younger due to those sick throws , but I eventually got sick of being recovery gimped by pikachu and kirby. Jiggly has since taken that third spot due to her ability to make it back from crazy distances and surprise people with high priority pounds and sleep kos

Melee

Marth- fast, powerful, fun as hell to play swordsman. I always feel like I have a chance to get back into a match as Marth even if I'd down a whole life he's that good

Jigglypuff- See what I said about her in smash 64, but way better.

Captain Falcon- see what I said about falcon in smash 64, but add the knee of justice

Brawl

Marth- See what I said about him in melee

Mr g&w- he got a huge buff from melee its crazy, love his improved aerial game and his at times strange fighting style that catches people off guard

Ike- all my irl friends suck as smash, so I can dominate them with Ike even though against good players he's too slow. Still his massive power makes him a joy to play

The battle system of X looks pretty boring but the sheer scope of the game looks amazing, the trailers are extremely hype themselves, having Hiroyuki Sawano as the games composer is helping it alot.

As good as Shulk would be in Smash I still want Takamaru more.

Why not both?

Seriously all you people disappointed in X needed a reality check, X was always going to be a Jrpg that played similar to its predecessor which most people that played said "its one of the best Jrpgs of all time". X is literally a bigger Xenoblade with mechs, it looks incredible

Says the man with a Pokemon avatar. :P

whats this about X looking boring? X looks like a improved version on xenoblade, which means it will be far from boring.

The only one I was initially meh towards was WFT, but she soon grew on me. I was moderately hyped for Villager, & was hyped as hell for Mega Man, Rosalina, & Little Mac.

final54.png

I added Ridley, because I figure at this point anything's possible. Little Mac proves that Sakurai cares about the West.

Since when was Pokemon ever a long RPG? lol

Ah... I see, you just dislike long JRPG's. The beginning portion of your initial statement you mentioned didn't care for them at all. My bad if that's not the case. :P

Well, he does seem to have Sendo's smash as his counter though!

After seeing Little Mac, it makes me want to play PSO2 but I'm still waiting on that supposed official english release.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_c6R1qCVT94

On a more on topic note, all I need left for me to be fully satisfied with character reveals, is either Ness or Lucas and Shulk. I will be extremely happy with those two!

I don't entirely dislike RPGs... I just have to be in the mood for them and that's kind of rare. There are exceptions though (such as Pokemon and the early Paper Mario titles)

mhm. Rosalina is the closest second since she's a month older. I don't think there's even any more recent characters Smash worthy characters than WFT aside from Pokemon and FE characters. Even Mii is older than WFT.

There is Shulk, Dillon, and some others that could have movesets. Though their chances of actually getting in the game is a whole different matter.

I made little Mac but didn't get a chance to avatarize him before going to school.

Here's a quick shot I threw onto twitter for who wants to see him.

This is awesome. Is there anyway you could make that Jojo-ized little mac too? o:

Replace Zoroark with Chrom & we have a somewhat plausible roster.

I also don't think Ridley or Dixie will get in.

Man ya know

My favorite part of this gif is actually samus's attack. Such a cool animation for it, and great cutting effect.

Little Mac looks like the most fun newcomer so far, which is impressive considering how fun all the newcomers have looked.

I just love fast, speedy characters who have a lot of charge moves.
