Wait so once you air dodge, you stay invincible till you hit the ground?
Sukapon
Takamaru
Mach Rider
Only oneQuestion:
Also, if you can make it so only pokeballs appear, and if you can set them to Very High, how many pokeballs can you have open at once?
Really? You can only have one pokeball open at a time?Only one
Sukapon was from a Famicom fighting game.I think Takamaru's very likely considering he's an AT that people wanted to be a full fighter and he had his own Nintendoland mini-game. I don't even know who Sukapon is. I googled him and still have no idea who he is. Mach Rider is definitely a possibility. Personally, I'd love playable Lolo, but I know that it's not happening anytime soon. He probably makes more sense as an AT anyway.
Yes but it's a 3DS limitation, I believe we've seen Wii U footage/screens where this isn't the case right?Really? You can only have one pokeball open at a time?

I said this long before Duck Hunt was revealed, but each of the retro characters fills its own niche. They aren't arbitrarily added for the sake of including another retro character.
Mr. Game & Watch - Game & Watch handheld series
Duck Hunt - NES light gun series (Wild Gunman/Duck Hunt/Hogan's Alley)
Ice Climbers - 1984-1985 NES one-off action games (Excitebike/Urban Champion/Balloon Fight/Ice Climber/etc.)
R.O.B. - NES robot series (Stack-Up/Gyromite)
Pit - one-off Famicom Disk System games (Kid Icarus/Murasame Castle/etc.)
I could see Takamaru being added as an FDS replacement for Pit (who is no longer retro), but beyond that I have no idea.
It's a hardware problem I'm guessing. The other Smash games let you have more than one.
Nope.Realistically, Balloon Fighter was supposed to be in Melee, but they couldn't get the physics right so we could have had Balloon Fighter AND Ice Climbers.
Nah, I'm pretty sure KBI is actually "Killer Booty Influence", a term used when you lose because somebody with a hot ass walks by at the worst possible time.We haven't settle down with the name for that feature. D1 and the players want to call it KnockBack Influence, a guy that noticed the feature want to call it vectoring, and Sakurai and team already gave it the name, HitStun Shuffling so no one agreed on same name yet.
Doesn't Little Mac count as a retro character? Or does the recent Wii Punchout cancel his retro status?
Nope.

Sakurai wanted to choose one "Famicom original" character. He whittled a list down until he was left with the Ice Climbers. Balloon Fighter, Urban Champion, Bubbles, and Excitebiker were merely considered.
I don't like this theory. Its a bit silly to think that they all exist to represent those hyper specific conditions. This is just stretching facts to fulfill your idea. Realistically, Balloon Fighter was supposed to be in Melee, but they couldn't get the physics right so we could have had Balloon Fighter AND Ice Climbers. I don't think having one character from any of these games makes it any less likely to see other characters from retro games. And heck Little Mac is technically still considered a retro character. (After all they re-did duck hunt in Wii Play and we're still considering that retro)
Speaking of Pilotwings, I hope the Pilotwings stage has lots of music from PW64.I wanna play as these guys.
Nah, I'm pretty sure KBI is actually "Killer Booty Influence"
So the retro characters we've seen in Smash history have been
Ice Climbers
Mr. Game & Watch
Pit
R.O.B.
Pac-Man
Duck Hunt
Who will be next
You said Balloon Fighter was going to be in Melee but "they couldn't get the physics right," but you pulled that out of your ass. Nobody at Nintendo ever said anything about Balloon Fighter's physics. That link shows it was a Balloon Fighter or Ice Climbers situation.I don't see proof that this is how Sakurai planned out the roster for Smash Bros 4.
Little Mac likely got into Smash in large part because of his recent role, which is further established by the trophies we got.
Balloon Fighter was actually an "or" character - he was going to be the retro character if Ice Climbers, Urban Champion, or Bubbles weren't.
Oh cool, they gave him new victory poses.

Dr. Mario has a unique intro, unique taunts, unique victory animations, and of course unique moves, including the tornado and the pills and his own Final Smash. They did an excellent job with him, IMO.Oh cool, they gave him new victory poses.
Console parity.
Only one pokeball on WiiU .
We have to keep it fair.
I imagine that that's only for the 3DS version.
They just replaced the one he had that he shared with Mario. He still has his other Melee ones.Oh cool, they gave him new victory poses.
That was the beta build before they toned it down obviously.I remember hearing Sakurai didn't include Excite Bike because "he'd need to have the ramps and speed pads".
Back in Melee, that would've been a bit over-the-top since things were relatively simple moveset wise...but nowadays I could totally see Excitebiker summoning those for his attacks.
Yep, if this isn't some edited shot...

I loved doing Lightning Melee/Brawl with Pokeballs only lol.
Well that's the one I was hoping would get replaced. They just replaced the one he had that he shared with Mario. He still has his other Melee ones.
So, anyone else hope tier lists don't spring up for a long time? I feel like early tier lists are self-fulfilling prophecies. If people think a character is better, they'll play them more and so more people will be more experienced with characters who are initially considered amazing, even if another character has a lot more potential. On the other hand, a character rated badly initially won't be played as much, which will mean even if there are really great ways to play them it won't be discovered because nobody will try
What's that new win pose suppose to be referencing?
I guess the game is already pushing the system to its limits. Those modes would require more/faster calculationsGuess what? You cannot do Lightning either.
Or any other special rule variation.
He's stroking his chin in amusement at your attempt at trying to best him. What's that new win pose suppose to be referencing?
To an extent yeah, and given enough time it'll be accurate. But I still think making it too early can delay the time it takes to make it truly accurate by a lot. I definitely think making it before the game even releases outside Japan is way too early for example. Saying it'll be accurate eventually is dumb because we should strive to understand balance as soon as possible, and making a tier list too early actually prevents that in my opinionTier lists don't really work like this. I mean, sure, to an extent, you will have people favoring characters that are known to be better, but it won't apply to everyone. You will always have people that prefer to use other characters, and as new techniques and counters are discovered the tier list will naturally evolve.
Eventually, you get to the point where the lists are actually accurate. You can have a super skilled, technical player using a lower tier character for years, but then they switch to a higher tier character and find themselves placing better in tournaments simply because the character is better.
Early tier lists are silly because the game hasn't really been explored enough yet, but I don't agree that self-fulfilling prophecies are a problem.

Why? Is there any cross play?
For a moment lets pretend your limited theory is correct, that we will only ever get one character based on a defunct peripheral as a nintendo retro per smash generation, let's entertain this. We have:
-Arcade Cabinets, (The Ship from Radar Scope or Sheriff)
-Power Glove (The glove from Super Glove Ball)
-Power Pad (Track Runners from Stadium Events)
