Well talking to Nintendo in the first place is already a daunting task.
Yep. NoA seems to at least kinda aknowledge feedback (but not do much with it). Nintendo's real developers overseas though, they're pretty good about doing they're own thing and not really caring what fans want. Most of the time that's more of a good thing though, so i can't really fault them.

The best.

The screenshot of M2K's comment was based on the E3 build, not the final retail release that he's gotten to play now. His opinion has changed, I'm pretty sure. I'm not sure what it is now, though.

According to people who have played the E3 build, there were definitely some changes made to the game. However, the landing lag stuff may have been overblown to some degree by some folks that played the E3 build. In general, landing lag is distributed in a more sensible way than was let on by the people who played the earlier build. However, this doesn't mean that landing lag for some moves weren't adjusted between the games -- Falcon's knee, for example, does have more landing lag than it ever has. And I'm pretty sure Marth's Nair (based on footage alone) is not nearly as lagless as it was in Brawl. So some moves did receive some minor landing lag adjustments but it's not to the point where you won't want to approach.

Characters with moves that don't need a lot of commitment are probably going to wind up being very good (i.e Sheik, Bowser, ZSS, MK, Kirby, Jiggs, etc etc). But that's just my own assumption/prediction and nothing you should take seriously yet.

Thanks for the clarification. My impression that the moves that still have or has increased landing lag has been modified/powered up Brawl. For example, Falcon's Knee has even more lag, but the power is back to Melee, correct?

I have only began to play the demo yesterday, but I'm impressed with the deceitfully slight but important changes they did to the available veteran characters, especially Link. His jumping slash, competent jabs, hitboxes that makes sense, and overall increase of knock-back power and speed makes him alot funner to play. If that is what a "Brawl 2.0" means for those people, I'm personally cool with that.

Is anyone else worried the the Wii U version is literally going to be the same game as the 3DS version, but in HD and possibly with an extra mode or two?

I mean we all know the gameplay is going to be the same, which is cool, but what about technical stuff? Like 1 pokeball/assist trophy at a time, and glubglubglub mouths?

I'm starting to get the feeling that it's really just going to be an HD skin, and that the game is still going to to be pretty much running on a 3DS.

Glubglubglub mouths? Probably, those were in Brawl too weren't they?

I kind of doubt they would limit the Pokeballs and Assist Trophies, but we know they've cut Wii U content because of 3DS compatibility so I can't say it would surprise me either. As long as we get event matches and a way to unlock custom moves on the Wii U (making us pay $40 for custom moves would be some bullshit) I won't really mind anything else.

On another note, asking again for the daytime thread people: Is there a Wii U Ethernet adapter? I could have sworn Sakurai recommended one during a Nintendo Direct. There was also this thread: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=502022

Someone else said they had the adapter bookmarked, but now the store page is gone and I can't seem to find anything besides third-party or legacy Wii adapters. Is there a new one planned? Surely Nintendo isn't scrapping the idea for Brawl and making everyone deal with wifi, so I'm hoping I'm just missing something obvious. This seems like a big deal to me.

Though they weren't 2D like in the 3DS version, the mouth animation was very static. We've already seen that Marth and Lucina use that kind of animation in the Wii U game, so I wouldn't expect any other character to be animated in a more naturalistic manner.

Online 1v1 is fun, but why does everybody pick Sonic and just...spam?

Also fought a match against DHD, and had a nice combo going at 1 stock left each, but I didn't grab the ledge when I was doing my combo outside of the stage. What situations are there where you can't grab the ledge?

If you are attacking you won't grab the ledge.

There isn't a Wii U adapter, but the Wii ones work. It's also not on Nintendo's store anymore.

They're never going to make the exact same game as they have done before, but with new graphics and some new characters. That's not how Nintendo works.

there are...so many jokes I can make here but I won't, considering the territory I'm in right now

needless to say, I did laugh, sir

Nope, just the old wii one. For some reason.

Can someone help me out with that Ike victory screen gif with his mouth glubbin hardcore? And they were in Brawl kind of, but the Wii U is a much stronger system. It should have visual improvements.

Even though the gameplay and roster is the same, I don't want it to be Smash 3DS HD. And if they don't take advantage of the system's power in certain areas, it will be.

Wait, they're still glubbin in the Wii U version? Fuck. It's going to happen like this isn't it?

Anyone know if yesterday's tourney will be archived somewhere? I'd love to show the Megaman fight to my brother, who's been loving Megaman on the demo :p

If it's D-pad vs. Circle Slider, I think D-pad users will have no problem.

Also, we're talking binary input. I'm still sticking to pressing a flat button twice can be done just as quickly as slapping that circle slider all the way to the left or right.
There's also landing lag and other animations between actions where you input could be entered and performed as soon as the delaying event has finished.

I disagree that the average user can double tap the dpad as quickly as the slider. You are also very much underestimating the subtle influences that small movements have in landing attacks/approaching in this game.

First of all, check out Wind Waker HD, Super Mario All Stars, and probably a few other remakes with updated graphics that they've made.

But I actually do understand your point, despite the obnoxious comment I started with. Obviously no one expects that. I'd just like to the a new Smash Bros. that compares to Melee or 64 as these new games compare to Brawl. (ie, pretty close)

At the very least, the Wii U version will have many more new stage, including ones that wouldn't work as well on a portable, more music options, more built-in media share options, and more control options (the latter will be important, especially for people destroying their 3DS circle pad.) I am curious if they will keep it at 1 pokeball/assist trophy at a time, though. Was it like also that for Wii U's E3 build?

It looks awful, but they're probably doing so because it's easier to carry over the Brawl animations on Wii U, and use texture-only faces to save memory on the 3DS.

Listen to me. This post says the following; Anything with the ASIX AX88772 chipset should work for sure (there are a number on amazon who advertise this and reviews say they do).

The official adapters are only available in the UK (and have gone pretty much extinct) but like that post said a decent ASIX AX88772 chipset will work just the same.

Is anyone going to PM the people making the Wii U |OT| so the info is there.

Masked Man

I said wow
Been pretty swamped lately, so I haven't been keeping up with the thread at all, but...!

Bonus - Actual pictures of the custom moves (calling masked man!):

  • Custom Neutral 1: Strong Bow - bowstring is stiff so the arrow won't fly far, very powerful when fully charged
  • Custom Neutral 2: Rapidfire Bow - uses magic power to pierce, shoots straight out and travels quickly but won't fly far
  • Custom Side 1: Boomerang - "normal" boomerang, powerful but can't draw in opponents
  • Custom Side 2: Slicing Boomerang - flies forth while cutting with a sharp blade, hits multiple times but won't fly far
  • Custom Up 1: Shocking Slice - imbues his blade with lightning then performs a spinning slash, leaves Link wide open after use, does not travel much horizontally when used in the air
  • Custom Up 2: Whirling Jump - bounds upward using the momentum from his spinning slash, does no damage but travels a good vertical distance
  • Custom Down 1: Jumbo Bomb - looks way to big to fit in your pocket, incredible blast
  • Custom Down 2: Meteor Bomb - has a short fuse and thus explodes quickly, functions as a meteor strike when used against airborne opponents

Ah....Lucina looked so awkward in general in her reveal that I guess I didn't put that together.

Well that sucks. Even though I kind of find the glubglub oddly charming on the 3DS. But the Wii U should look better.

It's just kneejerk reactions, M2K will come around on the game just like Justin did.

This a weird comparison to make when another game in this very series had the competitive crowd throw it into the bushes almost immediately (Brawl).

It amazes me how much influence top tier players can have on peoples opinions about a game. But I suppose this isnt unique to smash or anything :/
