Yes, you can choose 1v1, 2v2 and some other option that I've never clicked on.

It's all situational and character based honestly. If you look at the Lucina/Marth forums over on Smashboard everyone is saying the same sort of thing. Lucina is bettter vs some characters, where as Marth is better against others.
Marth for example is very, very good against the heavier characters. His fsmash kills atleast 10-12% earliar than Lucina's.
The other is For Glory FFA.

You want full match statistics or just top 8?
top 8 Melee (4 stocks) at Evo 2014 was somewhere between 3.5-4 minutes on average, though keep in mind this includes a whole bunch of Hbox/Armada snoozers (and the Axe 4-stock, but that's only one match)
I would imagine pools and such would be shorter because more matches are free
also I think Melee should probably be 3 stocks (and definitely Project M lol), and Brawl should've been 2
edit: well even matches that go to time in Marvel are only 3 minutes 18 seconds, that's why it's always best of 5
I was thinking very rough figures for other games as well, like SFIV. I'm just wondering how long games can run before it causes problems in a tournament format with lots of players -- like, 8-minutes matches for 3 stocks, even if they only run 5-6 minutes, could take quite a while overall.
I do rather expect 8 minute 3-stock if Smash 4 comes to a tournament format though.

All but Ridley are in 3DS as trophies.

I've seen 1 of the following: Mario, Samus, Peach, Sonic, Fox, Falco, Ganondorf and Dark Pit.
Even some of the ones that i did see with some frequency like DHD are dropping of but Shiek, Rosalina, Little Mac, Villager and Greninja seem like they're everywhere.

I think it's fake because he decided to toss Impa in playable character, along with very good choices of stages. I can't really see us getting 55 stages for Wii U.

The only reason I am skeptical about Spainkiller is that it matches up too well with the 4chan fakes. Fakes we knew were fakes. It is a weird situation.

It is a glaring absence. However, since Conquest mode just rolled out, I am open to the idea that more of the game might unlock with the US release.

To me, Ridley is the biggest red flag, seeing as Sakurai already "as good as" confirmed him for stage boss. I ignore any rumor involving him.
That 4chan post reads like someone's ideal Smash Bros. wish list. Especially once you get to oddly specific fan-pleasers like "everyone gets their own target test stage."

When there are 49 characters in the game and only like 16 people in each tournament, there are bound to be a bunch of characters that go unused.
But there's definitely been way too much Sheik, ZSS, and ROB from what I've seen.
I feel like Sakurai just showed Ridley's shadow as a nod to the more hardcore players who know who he is. It's like an elaborate "who's that Pokemon."
Just my theory.

I really want to know what streams you're watching, because the bolded show up a lot (and I've seen nearly all of the ones listed at least once).
Oh i understand that but it seems like in all the streams i've watched after the first 2 or 3 days of the games release have ended up as Shiek, R.O.B. or any of the other characters i mentioned spotting frequently.
ZSS has dropped of massively for me.
I've seen a Mario for the first time just now lol.
Any of the streams that get posted here that i manage to catch either when they are live or have replays posted.

There are three instances where a character showed up to taunt/attack in a video:
Dark Pit in the Palutena trailer
Metal Face in the Shulk trailer
Ridley in the ND
Either Sakurai is planning on adding multiple stage bosses in the Wii U version, or they will both be playable. What is odd here, I think, is that Metal Face would fundamentally change the Gaur Plains stage in terms of competitive viability. Unless the bosses only show up when you have someone on the GamePad. But how would that work in practice? If someone beats a player-controlled boss, do they really have to sit out the match?
So many unanswered questions. If Metal Face were confirmed as a stage boss, I would give up on Ridley.
You already bought 3 3DSes. Why expect otherwise?

Because you need the game to play? Local play would have been hindered anyway. People without the game will probably only be able to play as one character.
Peach was likely not shown much because of the For Glory bug.
Because Download Play seems to be impossible.

I mean, I guess it isn't technically impossible to make Metal Face playable, but I can't see them giving Xenoblade another rep, and making him playable would kind of involve major Xenoblade spoilers

So just from playing the 3DS demo, Villager is fun as hell to play. It's hilarious that all of his moves are like "accidental". Villager destroying people by tripping and throwing a pot in their face or by planting and chopping a tree, it's all indirect stuff and that is hilarious to me.
I was most excited for Mega Man but now I really can't wait to piss all my friends of with Villager, so much fun. His final smash is hysterical too.
