Yeah for real, the movesets were almost completely different. The only samey parts were the special moves and obviously general movement.

If either of them come back, I'd rather see Lucas just because I thought his moveset was a LOT better than Ness.

Lol, some people must've never played as Lucas. His main difference were in his standard attacks, which aren't adjustable. Dat Up Smash is the greatest ever...

That depends on whether or not they are recognized as Gamecube controllers or Wii U Pro controllers by the Wii U. I am guessing they are seen as new GCN controllers so most likely not unless they retroactively patch it in.

If they aren't recognized, then I hope a lot of games patch it in. I'd love to play more games with the GameCube controller.

Yeah I agree. The only reason I could see that they would not be seen as Wii U Pro Controllers is because the GCN controllers have analog triggers while no other Wii U controller does...
 
I hope if Sakurai decides to go with a secondary Mother rep again that he makes them a lot different than Ness. Mainly a simpler up-special would be preferable.
 
Hmm.. so looking at the official Smash gamecube adapter, it uses both the usb slots on the wii u. I already have both of those occupied with my external HD and one using my Lan adapter on the back. Leaving me with only one USB slot. Hm...

Every time people say this, I wonder if Melee was their first Smash game. Obviously no one shares my opinion, but I was very disappointed in Melee after spending way too many hours of my life in Smash 64. It was still fun (but so was Brawl, and it was even worse than Melee), but a lot of what made it popular for tournament play made it harder to get into for new players, and less fun for experienced Smash 64 players.

That doesn't really matter at all.

Lucas is a one shot protagonist from an obscure game that only came out in Japan that is somewhat similar to another character already on the roster (they even look similar). He's also not going to show up again because the mother series is over. He just really doesn't need to be on the roster.

It doesn't help that both of them share B moves. Also, as sad as it is, Mother is a minor franchise at this point, so I think Sakurai prefers to focus his work on adding characters from other series, who are more visually distinctive than other included characters.

So I updated my shot of the likely pool of characters after E3. Two now officially out in Tingle/Genesect. Did I miss any GAF?
Toad and Ridley being arguable means they're not deconfirmed yet in my book.

Based on my character likeness, but mostly based on movesets.
1: Green Female Villager
LOVE LOVE LOVE Animal Crossing and so excited it got a rep.

2: Rosalina & Luma
Love Rosalina aswell, but worried that it'll be hard to play as her.

3: Palutena
Again love Kid Icarus, loved her character from Uprising. Surprising it took this long for her to be revealed since she was the most obvious character thanks to Sakurai Bias :P Her moveset looks kinda weird for my playstyle, especially since we don't know what her real moves are...

4: Pac-Man
I didn't really care before, but holy shit that trailer. Bough Pac-Land on WiiU VC just because of the trailer. Loooks to have a really cool moveset, but like Palutena, its hard to know

5: Chorus Kids
Only played the DS Rhythm Heaven game, but loved it and the Chorus Kids level stand out as the most memorable. Obviously, dunno about a moveset, but in my head its so good.

6: Greninja
Love Pokemon, love Greninja though not my favorite gen 6 starter. (It is my favorite Gen 6 final evolution though.) Looks like a very nice moveset.

7: Mega Man
I don't really like hard games, but I played through NES MM 1 & 2 and quite enjoyed them. Plan to play through more soon. My most exposure with MM is with the Battle Network series, but glad to have NES Mega Man in it and look forward to playing as him.

8: Wii Fit Trainer
Don't care to much about the rest of the newcomers. Wii Fit Trainer at the top simply bevause theres a female Wii Fit Trainer.

9: Little Mac
His playstyle speaks to me very much. Like Punch-Out Series but not a huge fan of it. Like to stick with characters from games I like but we'll see.

10: Mii
Was very much looking forward to this character, but not being able to play with them online with randoms was a huge blow.

11: Shulk
I couldn't really get into Xenoblade's battle system, so I'm meh on this character but his playstyle might be interesting...

12: Chrom
I'm sorry for sounding like this, but three FE reps and not one female for what the series is just pisses me off.

And yeah, I included the leaked characters. I fully believe in the leak and belive that its all the characters, so sorry if its weird that I'm including characters not yet confirmed.

Chrom is still a lot more visually distinctive to Marth/Ike than Lucas is to Ness.

IMO, best case scenario, Kumatora would get in place of Lucas. Not only she's another great female character for the rooster, she's also quite visually distinctive to Ness. But knowing she's not the main character from Mother 3 diminishes her chances a lot :/

It's a shame really. If there's one character I would love, it is Kumatora.

It doesn't really matter given how like with Link Sakurai normally tries to represent an entire franchise with single incarnations of characters rather than getting too worked up about who the particular character is, but Brawl in Snake's codecs definitely mentions the playable DK isn't the original one.

I agree Nintendo doesn't really care either way and Rare's mostly defunct scribes section on their site seemed to strongly imply they never really gave a shit either way as well. Just boils down to whether you find it funnier that Cranky is a really out-of-shape DK from the original games or just batshit insane.

I believe Sakurai confirmed no more Pokemon newcomers, and one guy said Cranky is a trophy, but I don't know if that's been verified.

I'd also add Dark Pit. Just being in that trailer makes him much more likely than most of those characters.

Waiting on that supposed vid he got. We still have Saturday I suppose for this to be confirmed.

The quote can be read both ways I feel so I didn't mark Blaziken off either. Unless I totally missed a direct quote somewhere that explictly said "no more Pokemon" I felt people were reading into the Greninja answer a bit, personally.
