Constructed a list.
I think we can assume there will be a stage for Game & Watch (
maybe we've seen it?) and we'll probably see at least one new stage for
Mario,
Zelda, and
Pokemon.
One thing is for sure: we're not done yet.
Still not totally on board with Kongo Jungle though. It looks unchanged, and it seems to be a placeholder for Jungle Hijinxs. I added it anyway.
How funny would it be if we got trophies for
Woolly World that spoiled the game before it was even out?
Nice image, thanks for putting them together like this! Based on this and my own investigation, I'm making the following predictions:
- Zelda only having three stages overall and just one new stage feels off. I'm thinking we'll either get a new stage from
The Wind Waker HD or a revamped Pirate Ship (especially now that we know swimming is still in). Having no
Wind Waker representation at all, especially in light of Toon Link, just doesn't seem likely to me. Gerudo Valley is also possible.
- Pokémon only having two stages (one new, one returning) is also strange for Nintendo's biggest franchise (currently), though maybe not because it's handheld-based. Feels like we could get one more Pokémon stage, though. Maybe Pokémon Stadium in addition to its sequel, or perhaps Unova Pokémon League or Prism Tower will be shared from the 3DS version?
- F-Zero and Mother only getting one stage so far, returning to boot, is a huge red flag. I'm 99% sure we're getting Magicant and Mute City SNES in the Wii U version as well at this point; they're based on console games to boot, so why not? Not to mention the fact there's that Flying Man token in Smash Tour.
- Mr. Game & Watch is 99% certain to have his own stage that you get along with unlocking him like in the 3DS version, either Flat Zone (since Flat Zone 2 is in Smash 3DS) or a new stage.
- I kind of wonder if there's a chance WarioWare, Inc. will come back in the Wii U version to help represent the wider WarioWare series, but as there don't seem to be any returning stages in common between Smash 3DS and Wii U, maybe not.
- Balloon Fight can be seen in the Masterpieces menu in the Direct, and there's no way that's there because of Villager's up special alone. The Balloon Fight stage is in.
That's all I got. Anyone else have anything to add?
The leaker I know WhatsApped me this morning.
"The Ridley boss showed in last night's Direct was pretty much the model I saw. Same goes for the Mewtwo reveal. Anyway, sorry, I assumed Ridley would be playable because of the quality of the model. Dixie and Chorus Men could be anything, I guess."
Well, there ya go.
But, anyway, Mewtwo, woohoo!
Thanks for the update, Spainkiller! Guess we'll just have to wait and see what the deal is with Dixie and the Chorus Kids. I have a feeling Dixie is coming eventually as DLC, but I'm losing hope for the Chorus Kids.

Sadly,
Rhythm Heaven just isn't a big enough deal to most people to justify doing a DLC release just for a character from that series. I hope I'm thinking about this the wrong way, though, because I still want a
Rhythm Heaven rep so badly...
Really Sakurai? Don't you think you went a little overboard with traveling stages?
On the contrary, actually. You can never have too many traveling stages. Sakurai knows exactly what he's doing!
Why are people hating on traveling stages?
I don't get it either. Traveling stages are the best. They tend to be the best-looking and are just exciting to play.
Jesus, this fanbase is insufferable.
I like the new stages.
It really is insufferable. The part of the fanbase (and I believe it's a very vocal minority) that just wants every new stage to be a flat area with maybe a platform or two and nothing going on is just the worst - they already have Battlefield, Big Battlefield, FD, and the Omega versions for that, which seems appropriate because that segment of the fanbase is looking for predictability, not variety (not an insult, just a conclusion).
Thank god it's a game designer like Sakurai who's in charge of this series, because it's clear he values interesting, dynamic stages with things
actually happening over concerns that would really dull the game like "no walk-offs!" and "there's a hazard?! BANNED!" I've only seen a small handful of stages in the Wii U version that I dislike (Wily Castle sadly being one); the vast majority look fucking fantastic, yet sure enough, we already have people coming out of the woodworks with hyperbole like "the stages just get worse and worse" and "this is the worst stage lineup in the history of the series."
Insufferable is one word; exhausting is another. This fanbase is just exhausting sometimes. I would never, ever want to be Sakurai.
I actually wondered if the picture of Game and Watch Octopus was a new Flat Zone, since the background looks sort of like the LCD-screen color...
One based on Diver which includes realistic water. I guess it'd be redundant to have the actual Octopus alongside GW Final Smash.
Yeah, I was thinking it was maybe a new Flat Zone stage until it was pointed out that Mr. Game & Watch's Final Smash adds a color filter to the stage. Evidence now points toward it being Mushroom Kingdom U, anyway...
Thanks. Can you answer a question?
The direct was a bit vague about 5/6 players. Are those part of 8 player smash where the stage selction is limited, or is it possible to do 5/6 player on all stages?
I wish I could answer that! The videos we've been posting today are based on the event Andre went to yesterday; because he and the event were in San Francisco, so far he's the only one that's played the final build. But I'm going to an event on Monday in Los Angeles where I'm pretty sure I'll get to play it as well, so I'll try to find this out and answer your question then.
So pretty (and I love Wuhu Island as a location), but it basically makes Pilotwings useless as a stage.
Useless? Not in the least. Wuhu Island doesn't have the island from the SNES
Pilotwings, and the Direct yesterday briefly showed some of the music selections for the Pilotwings stage. "Light Plane (Vocal Mix)?" Oh my god, yes. That alone justifies Pilotwings as a separate stage from Wuhu Island!
So no footage of Gamer? D:
Yeah, for some reason they wouldn't allow people at the event yesterday to record footage of Gamer or certain other stages. We're not sure why.
