Except that the primary sistem is democratic only because the Democratic party says so. There is no requirement to have primaries where the general votes at all, and they could do things behind closed doors if they want to.
Its not like the general which is an actual representative democracy, parties are able to select their candidate how they want and always have been.

You know, the closer we get to the general election, the more worried I get about its outcome. This is the first time I've been truly nervous about the results of an election - and the chance of a Trump presidency has me worried.

For some reason I never see this argument brought up by Hillary supporters when they say Bernie is unelectable. As though Democrats are going to not vote if he's the candidate lol.
One can't have it both ways. One should focus on the General Election or not.

MN and CO. Sanders needs to do well. A win here could mean he is the favorite going to big states that favor him more 3/15. A loss on both here means he is done.

As it should be, considering the kind of government that we have.
Anyway, I'm not arguing that a primary that functions as a representative democracy is a constitutional right, I'm just saying that as long as this is the primary system that the states are operating under, the candidates and their constituents have every right to use it for the purposes in which it was designed.

Found out last night my registration address is outdated (different county). Could I just go to the nearest place and vote anyway? I'm in Virginia and I couldn't find any yes or no answers. I've lived at my address for over 3 years.

Repubs - like 20 - 30, main hall.
Dems - 10 or less, maybe half that. Side room. When they announced who was voting where, me and 2-4 people got out of the 20 - 30 person Repub line line to go into the side room. therearedozensofus.gif
Young people stats - Me, some tall guy 25-35 (Repub), and a 10 year old girl (Her mom or dad was in the Repub line).
Yay. Stickers are cool.

Problem is that I don't know who I want. I love what Bernie says. I think he's saying things that are where I want the country to go. But I believe Clinton mostly wants the same things, she just thinks we can't get there fast, and need to go slow. I appreciate the idealism and the pragmatism. I think Clinton is going to win, so do I vote Bernie to send a message to the DNC that his ideas are popular? Or do I vote Clinton so that the primary is over quicker and she has more time to focus on Stumping Trump? Honestly, when I get to this point in my internal debate, I usually realize that I'm overestimating the importance of my own vote. Regardless of who I pick, the state will probably go to Clinton anyway. So then it becomes a question of which candidate I want to be able to look back at and I say "yeah, I voted for him/her!" Which is also a tough question. I'm afraid I'm going to end up flipping a coin in the booth.
I'm also from VA. Had the same problem last year. I believe you have to go to the polling place at which you're registered. Which I think you can find out at vote.elections.virginia.gov.

It's still showing my old address. When I updated last night they said it'd take 30-50 days, but I don't know if you have to vote at the place they tell you to, or wherever you want.

Yeah they're free to use it however they please but if there comes a point in the future where it's fundamentally impossible for Bernie to win the primary, he's just siphoning money and support that could be going elsewhere.

Your best bet was to leave it alone. I don't live in the county I'm registered to vote in but it's not worth the hassle to change it. Just go to the closest polling center in your old county and vote.

Early voted last week in Houston. Went D for the primary though my interests are pretty split between lower candidates for both parties, hopefully my R friends will survive their primaries, they should, the D primaries that I'm interested in are going to be closer. Can't wait to grab the popcorn tonight, should be fun. Will be at home watching due to the two kiddos.

Sounds like you have to go to the old place.
Then get active! Find at least two other friends or relatives that are infrequent voters and offer to go vote with them. Once the general rolls around, find a local office to do a few hours of canvasing for.
Won't take much effort, but if everyone follows the advice it does make a huge difference.

Listening to NPR this morning, a Republican Strategist basically said the only way to defeat Donald Drumpf at this point is for current nominees stay in the race and win their states to deny him winning the nomination through delegates.
I don't think I'll have a chance to vote on the 15th because the Democratic nomination will be determined by then.

It's fun being here in MA when all the country is watching what happens here. Things are looking good for Clinton, but polls can be very wrong (like in the last UK elections). Fortunately for Clinton, polls don't seem to have been over estimating her support in the first four states.
But we shall see.

Polls overestimated her in Iowa and New Hampshire (some did), but then underestimated Nevada slightly and South Carolina by a lot.
Well, my vote is for Bernie, not Hilary...and I expect Bernie to drop out before then, regardless of his statements saying he'll stay in the race even if he doesn't do well today. If he's in, I'll vote for him in the primary. If not, then I have no reason to vote in the primary.
It also has the potential to do even more harm to the GOP by using such a tactic to force a candidate out that so many primary voters seem to be for at this point.

The funniest part is, that even with that strategy it still looks highly probably that Trump wins the nomination anyways.
