Survivor 26: Caramoan |OT| Fans (Recruits) vs. Favorites (Crazy People)

Rob also mentions at the end of the podcast he posted tonight that the hiatus thing was blown out of proportion. He said he will still be podcasting over the next few months, just not 3+ times a week. Unless he was smart or crazy enough to record multiple podcasts to be posted over a six week period, this is the nail in the coffin for him playing on next season. I guess there's always the final/Hall of Fame season.

Hmm.. Someone asked Rob C on twitter if he was on season 27 and he responded with "I believe I have denied these rumors multiple times." On top of that both he and Nicole have been doing a fair amount of tweeting all day today. He's probably not on next season.

One interesting theory I did see was that he might be traveling to the Philippines right now, but only to do pregame interviews with the new cast. The other major TV guys from EW, etc usually do that before a season and then hold their interviews until right before it starts to air. Maybe he's now considered very legit Survivor press.

I don't believe the cast is heading out yet. The crew and host are, but they spend a week or two in advance. As far as I know the cast members don't head out for a week or two yet.

And they always have backups in case a pregnancy or something crazy happens.

On one of Rob C's podcasts, Colton mentioned that he was almost on last season with the medically evacuated returning players. I guess Survivor producers must really like him. And to be fair, he has come accross a lot better on the podcasts I've heard him on, I would think he wouldn't be as large of an asshole this time out.

Wow. I was actually fully expecting him to be one of the returnees that season too. You're right that he probably won't be anywhere near as bad as he was the first time. Guess will wait and see.. I've been pleasantly surprised before

I'm sick of discussing the players as if they're celebrities. Can't we just get season after season of new players? Every season these days is full of ego. No thanks. New players are more interesting to watch. Just do a better job casting, cbs.

I also really miss the survival aspect, like finding food. The show is still good but not as good.

It wouldn't be so bad if half the returnees weren't completely dull or incompetent. Last season the only ones I would have picked were Cochran and Malcolm, and maybe Erik, Corinne or Andrea at a stretch. Brandon/Philip/Dawn lol.

Cochrane is the male, smarter version of Courtney.

Sherri played a decent sandra-esque game.
Except Sandra won it twice saying "As far as strategy is concerned, NOBODY SAID NUTHIN TO ME NEITHER. I DIDNT SAY NUTHIN' TO THEM NEITHER". :D

An advantage? That shit is a straight cheat code.
"Isn't Cochran great, jury?"

stop, Jeff.
Jeff's going to climax as soon as he announces that Cochran's the winner.
Told you Jeff Probst has the hots for his faves. Survivor is slowly turning into Big Brother.

Ouch. I'd be pissed off too. Part of me hopes CBS cancels the show after watching this train wreck of a reunion.

And I can't believe Malcolm won player of the season. I guess looks are literally all that matter, because he played the game terribly.
What? Malcolm was solely responsible for the best (historic) TC of the season.

And holy shit Brenda. She seemed out of character but man it was so satisfying.

Pretty meh season with an interesting mid game, but it resulted in a good winner. That had to be one of the most lame final fours though. I didn't watch much of the reunion show, did it ever say the final results? I kind of figured Cochran got all the votes.

Besides the returning players part next season could be pretty great. The post merge game could be really interesting.

Jeff confirmed it was 8-0 on Twitter.

I'm pretty sure they both get $100k.

I really hope Colton doesn't return. He crossed the line from enjoyable villain to straight-up terrible human being. He even makes the Hantzes look good.

Though that said, if his relative is his black manservant, that would be hilarious
ly awful
.

I wonder of the two runners-up who received no votes, then get to share the $100,000 second prize?
Dawn confirmed that since she and Sherri tied for second they pool together 2nd and 3rd prize then split it between them

So they got about $92,500 each

In my opinion 3rd place should get nothing because the majority of the time it's a player who did nothing the whole game and rides someone's coattails to the end. Why should that be rewarded?

every place is rewarded. otherwise who the hell would put themselves through that?

Malcolm completely botched the strategy of that tribal council. By targeting Phillip (who everyone would be ok with leaving, and who nobly dove on the grenade) he gave away the surprise, and allowed everyone to proceed with the vote.

In reality, his better move would be to target someone in a close-knit alliance, Brenda or Cochran. Surely those two would've scrambled at tribal to change the result, which could've allowed Malcolm to then not play the idols. He also could've not named a target at all, which might've had the same effect.

He burnt TWO immunity idols to get 3 extra days on the island. Not worth it

He and Eddie simply just needed to sit on the idols, no matter what. All it was going to take was one person flipping to make it pull off huge. They left themselves sitting ducks. Revealing the vote target? That's debatable.

Have Survivor threads been this populous in the past? I don't remember them getting to 30+ (60+) pages before.
I believe this may be a record for a Survivor thread. It's not even close to the longest reality TV thread we've had, though.

Last summer's Big Brother thread is over twice as long.

As someone who's read all the Survivor threads for years and minimally participated in them, yeah, the speed of this thread is surprising. It's definitely a hotter one when compared to the last few.

I really hope they let Hayden be Kat's partner.
Latest rumors are holding that Hayden is going to be on Survivor and NOT Kat's "get down on all fours and pounce" cousin Rob.
Big Brother enthusiasts should know all about what Hayden is capable of.

I actually felt bad for Sherri during the jury questions when everyone laughed at one of her responses. I can kind of understand her finally losing her cool on Erik.

You don't bullshit a jury. Especially when many of them are returning players. It was impossible for her to convince anyone, but why didn't she point out she was the only fan left (her strongest argument) ? You can also try to argue that flowing under the radar is different than riding on someone's coattails ? She didn't even try. And her opening speech was just...

For those of us who aren't Big Brother enthusiasts, what can he do?

When do they start filming the next season? I'm assuming it must be soon, especially if they're filming both back to back.

Not much from what I remember. Can win physical stuff and seduce girls. But he barely won against Lane. LANE FFS.

Hayden has a great social game, he is really good at not getting on anyone's bad side and always coming out looking clean.

That was a pretty bad season overall though

I'm really ready to see what a Big Brother player can do on Survivor (and vice versa). I wonder if Hayden and his stunningly strong social game and ability to get other people to do things for him will work on the Island. On the flip side, I wonder how a Survivor would do on Big Brother where you're much more safe and there are many more outs that can happen prior to an eviction.

So Hayden is going to be the first person with a shot at being both a Big Brother and Survivor winner, if the rumors are true? Interesting. I wonder if this means they may put Survivors on Big Brother.

The way people talk about Big Brother and compare it to Survivor in this thread confuses the heck out of me. Does Big Brother in America have the viewers voting people off like in Australia? I've barely watched it here because it's just a terrible, terrible show, but from what I gather, people get nominated by those in the house but the actual voting off is done by the public voting. Is it the same in America?

no they vote each other out just like Survivor. America voted for the first season but they changed it after that. The American version really is just Survivor but in a nice house (& more stupid twists)instead of an island

After BB1 (with the original Euro-style public voting and nominations system) was a complete disaster, they switched to a different version of the game where it's more like Survivor.

As someone who DESPISED her through the whole season, and wanted to vomit every time I saw her Emu-looking face...that final TC was amazing for me.

Wait, it is? I'd never had any interest in Big Brother before, but if it's Survivor in a house, that might be neat. Alliances and everything? I'd thought that people could constantly come back into the show after being eliminated...is that not the case?

While I'm interested to see a BB player on Survivor, Hayden is one of the most boring choices. Not exactly the worst player to win BB, but him and Lane were certainly one of the most boring finalists. At least it's not Rachel... but these spoilers are getting worse everyday...

yeah alliances, immunity/endurance challenges like Survivor, etc w/ 24/7 feeds

the main difference is that each week there is a Head of Household who nominates two people for eviction, then theres another challenge, Power of Veto where someone can win the power to change one nominee or the nominee can win and remove themself. so the eviction is a bit different from survivor in that there are only 2 choices, but in Survivor it's pretty much split between 2 people anyways

no one comes back once they are eliminated, I think it only happened once in Season 9 & 13 as part of stupid twists

The one aspect about the show that makes Big Brother unique over almost every other reality TV series is, as cacophony noted, the live feeds.

Being able to tune in and follow the players 24 hours out of the day without an editing filter is captivating. Not that you'd want to do that per se, but the ability to jump to any game changing conversation and watch it uncut as the dynamics of the competition unfold is great... especially when there are lots of people in the house and the game is in its formative stages.

Far too often in reality shows... like with Brenda in Survivor this season... you only get to see an extremely tailored aspect of someone's game to serve the eventual end-game storyline. Not only is Big Brother unfolding live right in front of you but you get to see every angle without that filter from production in place.

Dawn shouldn't have to apologize to Brenda. They were playing a game. Did Probst demand that Boston Rob apologise to Grant? No.

What about Lex and Rob in All Stars? Everyone just thought Lex was being a whiny little shit. The only reason people are angry at Dawn is because Brenda is so damn cute.

The difference was that Rob really did do something really crappy there (leveraging an out-of-game realtionship) but kinda owned it, while Dawn was just a mess and had her ability to compartmentalize the game backfire spectacularly on her.

Unless your name is Chris or Todd, and then you literally bullshit the jury into handing you a million dollars.

I think most great players bullshit the jury at least a little bit. Todd and Chris just happened to be the best at playing the jury. (Todd playing Jean-Robert at the Final Tribal may be the single greatest thing in the history of the game) Depending on the game they played, some people didn't need to give as much bs to the jury.

What's most important isn't to be honest with the jury, but to give them what they want. Massage their egos, give them a reason to want to vote for you (see how Boston Rob and Sophie sold their personal journeys really well to the jury), and own the game that you played.

Don't apologize for your moves, don't give them obvious bullshit that they can see right through (Albert and Sash say hi), don't deny your game (like Coach claiming that he really did play with honor, loyalty and integrity), and don't be overly arrogant or condescending.

It's amazing even still how many players can get these basic elements wrong (two people even managed to do it twice, making the same basic mistakes).

Todd literally got Jean-Robert, a guy who SWORE not to vote for Todd if he betrayed him, and who Todd did betray, to vote for him. *bow*

Yep.

Rob C has been bringing it up in the last few podcasts, and it really was a neat moment.
I wonder if Todd's ever taken J-R on in poker since then.
Just to see if he could own him on his own turf as well as he did on the Survivor turf.

Russell and Amanda had disastrous jury pitches.

I mean, sure, Sherri sucked large but she didn't really have a hope in hell of selling enough people on the idea of voting for her.
Whereas Russell and Amanda literally self-destructed their games at the 11th hour.

Man, Sherri was just plain awful. She looks like a half chewed on Sandra Bullock with all that fake tanning, botox and augmentation.

Fighting with the Jury is a sure way not to get votes.

Cockers had it in the bad anyway. Good on him.
