Survivor: One World |OT| Thread of Stupid Name, Promising Twist

Dumb. Episode made me a bit angry. I can get over the race thing... because I'm not entirely sure this was based on race. Put that aside for a second.

How dumb is this? I guess my assumption that these people watch Survivor is wrong. That... or the new thing is to try and do something so different in the game as to be remembered.

Think of it this way... how many of us remember anything from that horrid Fabio season? How many of us will remember this unbelievably stupid move? In this perspective... for infamy's sake... I guess they did a tremendous job.

Baffling.

If they decide to groom Colton as the next super villain and over use him like they did with Russel, I'm out for good.

Colton's disgusting display of intolerance is sickening and watching an entire team of grown men cowering under his iron fist is pathetic. Watching idiots scramble around on this show used to be fun, now it's just frustrating because they're being manipulated by such a transparent monster.
If you were really suspicious, you'd almost think CBS set this entire ball rolling with clear intent.

A) First off, you've got the entire season gimmick of two tribes divided along gender lines on one beach. The "muscle" of the guy's tribe consists of three west coast jocks with professional jobs that would naturally bond together and consist largely of people Colton would hate due to attitude and/or skin color. The rest of the guys (with Jay - aka Fabio Redux being a notable exception) are a bunch of passive older/less physical misfits who would naturally align together as a defense mechanism giving Colton the numbers and a natural alliance to command.

B) You introduce a twist right at the outset that any introduced idols have to be given to the opposing tribe and Sabrina practically trips right over it while gathering firewood on Day 2 or 3 while Colton has been doing his best job of parading around the girl's camp like a peacock to show how much of an outcast he is. Hmmmm...

C) Once in command, you have him make "good TV" by introducing an absolutely crazy concept of going to tribal council after winning tribal immunity just so he can vote out a threat and he manages to have every one of his misfits go along with it.

D) At the end of the day, Colton is somehow set up the best of any of the guys to survive any merge/twist scenarios due to his idol and the fact that he hates men making the married, older non-eye candy misfits easy pickings now that the hot eye candy has been taken out of the equation.

E) Absolutely everything in this game has been set up to Colton's benefit and he doesn't even NEED the money. He's rich. So why the hell is he playing the game? To show up his stepfather? You know who else played the game when he didn't need the money? Russell Hantz.

^ that conspiracy theory is whack.

If the muscle 4 won't such idiots, they should have roped in one of the other men to form the power alliance. Then the misfits would have been booted out day 1. There's no conspiracy here. The game is playing it out as it has; people who stategise, people who don't

I don't think colton is rich. Well-off by alabama standards but I don't think he is. I think he's very close minded and I know he probably hasn't experienced very much of life.

I am just quite shocked at how small minded he is; I hope he leaves the show and leaves alabama and meets some real people

Is Colton the most bigoted person ever on this show? He hates the men because they're men and apparently being gay means he can only stand to be around women, he hates Bill because he's black or a stand up comedian or both
Pretty sure the 'get a real job' remarks about that is a code phrase for he thinks Bill is poor. Also 'ghetto trash' which he's called Bill numerous times.

Basically Colton got his tribe to vote off someone because they were black and poor. :/

It's the morning after and I'm still trying to come to terms with that episode. I'm bum puzzled that after KKKolton's hate speech at tribal, the men didn't take the opportunity to blindside him. Not even Bill gave a vote to Colton. Come on guys, why do you want this guy to stick around and continue bossing you?!

The challenges are getting ridiculous with how much you can cheat during them. They're clearly trying to keep the tribes even in numbers so the merge/mix drama is maximized, but this is just stupid.

I know it wouldn't have remotely mattered in last night's challenge, but I was surprised the guys didn't knock over their puzzles once Jeff ok'ed them.

I was completely torn between uncontrollable laughter and wanting to throw my cable box out the window. I guess it's good if you can keep the "I don't give a shit about these people" and just enjoy the game. My only wish is that Colton isn't some kind of polarizing character like Russel and that everyone in the world hates the living shit out of him.

I don't think production meddled that much, but on the flip side I cannot fathom how dumb the guys are. Their whole basis was trusting people at the merge but they're letting the guy who has said since day 1 he's going to the girls side lead the team. I don't get it. They could have blindsided him with zero effort at both tribals.

I didn't watch the show for the first few seasons so I don't really know, but have the rules always been this lax?

I've was really surprised this season when Jeff just let the guys steal items the girls' pulled off the truck in the first ep, and the puzzle copying this week's. Not to mention the guys being able to just walk into elimination because they felt like it.

I think the first season I watched was Palau (season 10?) and I don't recall seeing anything this blatant.

My wife was reading survivorsucks and said that Bill is ex-US military? Is that correct? I guess even more props to him if he didn't pull out the "serving my country, what have you done?" card.

The Survivors are bound by US and local law, which generally boils down to you can't steal things explicitly owned by other players. In the truck sequence they were gathering materials but they were tribe materials - they established way back in the pirates season that you could take stuff in that situation.

The puzzle copying seemed rather obvious - they have no way to police that, so it was obviously fair game. There have been challenges in past seasons where contestants look at what others are doing, it just hasn't been as blatant as how the women stopped and walked over to examine it. And like Jeff said, nobody in the history of the game chose tribal council like that, but in reality this is the only time it has ever made logistical sense to do so - in the past they have been on seperate beaches so you couldn't just stroll over and make a trade.

btw thought this was hilarious how they closed up on this bit during the show.

I have a random question I was thinking last night...

Per instructions, the girls had to give the immunity idol to one of the guys. Since the idol is now Colton's, could he give it to one of the girls?

Not that Colton would ever do that, but idols have been given to other people and traded between tribes before.

I don't think I'll watch the next episodes of this season until Colton leaves. He pisses me off so much it's not even funny.

I'm bum puzzled that after KKKolton's hate speech at tribal, the men didn't take the opportunity to blindside him. Not even Bill gave a vote to Colton.
As good as that would have been I think actually doing something like that is a lot, lot harder than you'd think when you're right in the middle of it and you've got someone like Tarzan who seems to be a single-issue player (in this case it seems to be a version of loyalty/trust issues, given how bizarrely over the top his reaction was to Leif's action. I think his asking Probst about the votes last week is probably another example of this). You'd need to get 3 more people minimum to psychically agree to vote for the same person, because if Colton figured it out he could play the idol and suddenly you're the one getting booted, or at the very least you're exposing yourself as a leader which is usually a ticket out.

From the reaction during Tarzan's rant I think Jonas knows things are a mess but that he's in a pretty safe position, at least enough to ride to merge, so he's keeping his head down. Remember that everyone gets money for going on the show and that the longer you last, the more you get. He's probably just happy that he wasn't being targeted too, given that the options for elimination this week were the black guy and the little person.

I'd love to know if stuff regarding Lief did was edited or if he really has no spine. Why he just stood there and took a beating is beyond me.

Wow, these guys are the dumbest tribe in history. I still like Troyzan and Jonas, but the rest of the tribe are pretty devoid of intelligence, and it's absolutely crazy that they pulled that move off.

Colton also managed to come across as even more bigoted this week.

Also did the men have to give immunity to the girls based on the rules? You'd think their first suggestion would have been "let's ALSO go to tribal council" to keep their numbers advantage. Barring that, why not try to do some sort of trade, we'll go to tribal this time if you go next time. Or at least we'll go to tribal for you if you give us the fishing net or something like that...

I would imagine they did. The boots have to be arranged in order to keep a certain number of episodes in the season (which is why an medical evacuation usually results in no tribal council). There's usually one episode where both tribes go to tribal, but I don't think they could just do that impromptu. It would mess up their plans.

That's exactly what I was pointing out (hell, I thought of that very scene when they started tearing apart the truck! :) Rupert was allowed to steal the stuff because it was effectively game pieces - tribe stuff. He wouldn't, on the other hand, be allowed to steal an immunity necklace or somebody's wedding ring or something.

EDIT: I don't remember about the shoes though - did they buy those? Or were those survivor items? An interesting loophole if the latter, possibly forgiven due to the pirate theme

The only exception I've ever seen to this was the clothes burning bit, which I think was forgiven by the other party. But conversely I still remember the news story about the survivor who got fined heavily for taking a piece of the Great Barrier Reef during one of the seasons...

You guys are great. Learn to embrace the villain! Some of the reactions here are more entertaining than the actual show. And then there's stuff like this:
I desperately want to see someone perform a hate crime on Colton.

...

If you're not going to vote him out, stage an accident at the next challenge so he's forced to go home like everyone in Fans vs. Favorites.

Lighten up, guys. How many seasons have you seen? This is tame.

Colton's not even a great villain. At least Russell was entertaining with his scheming.
How is Colton not a great villain? He got his tribe to give up immunity so he could get rid of someone. Also, again, look at the reactions here. He's an absolutely brilliant villain! Look at all the emotions he stirs up.

This would have been really smart, actually. I suppose there is the possibility they actually did do some dealmaking along these lines and we'll see it next episode - they probably wanted to maximize the time spent on that great tribal council - but I doubt it.

i'm probably definitely in the minority here, but i'm cheering for colton. holy shit is this guy epic. gay racist republican from alabama that's controlling his tribe, very entertaining episode. christina and hottie chelsea for women's team and colton and jay for men's team are the only people i like from this season so far. and i agree with those who feel there was production involvement going on here. i think they heard colton wanting to give up immunity and convinced tarzan to totally go along with it and convince the tribe to do so. and man leif is a moron, man did he learn his lesson here big time...
Yep, I agree with this. What a great episode. I hope Colton sticks around for a while.

^^ Because he's not charming or anything. He's just a spoiled bigot. I'd take guys like Russell or Boston Rob any day over him.

Yeah being a great Survivor villain requires a level of intelligence that I don't think Colton has, he's making decisions like a spoiled kid, there's no brilliant strategy behind it. It's just working (so far) because the rest of these people are total spineless idiots.

Admittedly not many.

My wife and I got into last season because of Cochran, and then in between the wait between seasons we watched Heroes vs Villains, Fans vs Favorites and Cook Islands (finished last night right before we watched this episode). I have been watching based on some dudes 'best of' list.

But now we're going to start from Borneo, the first season. Crazy enough, that was the first and last season I ever watched. Until this past year...I never thought I'd be a 'Survivor Person', but now I love it!

Ive seen every single season of survivor - although thailand is hazy to me and I might not have fully watched it. Otherwise, all of it, I actually didn't mind Colton he's hilarious on the show and the latest episode is so shocking because of how stupid everyone is. And for the things said; but you know what; its entertaining to the MAX

I just thought it was hilarious how the women were like "whatever, let them fallout". as you would if you've playing this game sanely.

I still don't get the thinking behind these guys. They do know Colton is immediately going to jump to the women at merge right? Then it's bye bye to all remaining men. None of them have balls either. It should have been apparent when they let the women walk all over them and use their fire even though the women won't share anything with them. The only thing that will prevent this is a mixing up of teams and ending men vs women, which I'm guessing happens next week.

Ooooh, if you love the show then you have to see some of the past seasons (particularly the sixth season, Survivor: The Amazon). There are some absolutely remarkable characters, challenges, and human drama that have been a part of the show throughout its run.

For all of the banter about stealing other players' possessions recently in the thread, I'll always remember how Butch inadvertently set the entire camp on fire by accident which led to everyone's belongings getting torched. Good times!

Of the early seasons, Marquesas and Amazon are my favorites.
The end games of Pearl Islands and Vanuatu were pretty entertaining as well.
Few people enjoyed Thailand although I felt Brian played a textbook game few have managed to equal.

Palau was probably the first season to bore me to tears and featured the first former contestant to pass away.
Rudy Boesch would have won a hell of a lot of money betting against himself in a death pool. He continues to thrive at the age of 84.

Heh, I'm actually watching through Vanuatu again right now while I play portable games. The way the game plays out is totally unexpected given the first few episodes.

Rob Has A Podcast had a great (and awkward) interview with Chris a few weeks ago.

vanautu's eventual winner = all the more fucking amazing considering how that season went.

Colton's facebook page has people wishing he'll get Aids and die now. Most hated survivor ever...

yikes!!!

Chris has always been one of the greatest and most underrated players in my book. That interview was awesome, although the vest bit was amazingly awkward.

Agreed. The way he maneuvers around the various alliances and wins competitions when he needs to is pretty remarkable. Very reminiscent of my favorite
winner
, Jenna.

Apparently Colton posted this on Facebook (taken down already)

Looks suspicious, but meh. You can never really tell nowadays.

You can embrace a villain but you cant embrace a racist. Not sure why you have a hard on for Colton, give him a ring dude.

hehe

There's still no one like JFP and will probably never be. It's a shame S16 ended the way it did for him, he got snuffed out of S20 unfairly.

Well, I think im out. this is clearly the worst cast they have ever had(mentally and physically challenged women, stupid douchebag guys) The women have completely ruined an interesting gimmick also woman freely cheating on puzzles.

Sad to see Survivor this terrible, would happily take RI or returning players now after this mess.

Same. There is no way I will believe Colton is not some sort of actor. I am done watching until my girl tells me that bastard is gone.

And I really can't believe Survivor can't put a small tarp between the team on the puzzles. Or at least allow them to destoy it after completion.

I guess the new Cbs reality show business model is to use Brenden/Rachel "scum of the earth" characters to get ratings.

Finally just watched the episode and I couldn't agree more. Colton is disgusting. I don't think I have ever been angry watching a television show but I was getting more and more upset as the episode went on. I just can't understand the dumb-asses they have put together for this season its got to be some kind of record. How they could let this guy run their tribe is beyond me. Screw both of the Tarzans too. Bunch of spineless people bleh.

Bill was also a class act through that whole thing. I can't imagine I would have been able to stay that calm.

Bill seems like a pretty chilled out dude. I'm glad that he said that race wasn't really the issue, more that it was just different cultures and ideologies clashing, even after Colton made that servant/butler (forget which) remark. His post-show camera shoot also showed that he was a gracious loser(?) as well.
