I refuse to believe that I'm the only Karlstad-gaffer here.

Bloody hell we have more people from the middle of nowhere ( yes I said it! ) than Karlstad aka Beststad.

Well, we have 3 people that don't know eachother from this town:

But ansjovis är skitäckligt..

I will make julbord instead.

Maybe that crappy eldorado version, proper ansjovis, mixed together with some dijon mustard and secret spices = the best thing ever...

The plurals aren't that hard to learn. There aren't that many of them and they usually depend on how the singular ends. The hard part is to learn which gender the word has (common or neuter) as they are a bit random... :p The gender might influence the plural.

At least the verbs are really easy.
I think I remember it being the plural form of the adjective with plural words that was the hurdle. Something like röd blomma to röda blommor. Anyway, I didn't find the concept particularly hard to get, but I just stopped after that.

But, reveal the secret spices aswell. So it get's easier for him.

Not going deep into any analysis of religion in Sweden I can point out the fact that we are quite secular is a rather new phenomenon. The generation of my grand parents (born around 1915) where very much a religious generation with things as Sunday mass attendance almost mandatory.

yeah, but why did happen?

yeah, but why did happen?

Some people say it's because of socialism, specifically because the Social Democrats decoupled Christianity from the school system, so that's one opinion.

Did some quick googling and also found this pretty interesting article by a priest:

http://www.utanh.se/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/Sekularisering.pdf

The author states that it can't be because of high standards of living or modernization, because those things exist in many highly religious countries. Instead, he argues that one factor might be that in most countries of the world, Christianity is associated with freedom: in the US, freedom from the persecution the puritans faced in Europe; in Asia, freedom from their very strong concepts of inevitable fate; in Africa and South America, freedom from the the evil forces prevalent in their ancient religions; and so on. In Sweden, religion is associated with oppression, coercion, and punishment. He also refutes the "socialism did it!" argument by saying that in China, Christianity is huge, but is not taught in schools.

I won't say that he's right, and he doesn't really explain how Sweden differs from the rest of Europe (specifically the Catholic south) in this respect, but it's an interesting thought since no one can give you a definitive answer.

It's just not only Sweden. Estonia and the Czech republic for example isn't very religious either going by this wikipedia page.

Hard to compare those countries to Sweden as they were occupied by the Soviet Union.

Northern Europe is less religious than the south generally so it might have something to do with protestantism together with other factors.

Yeah i don't think there's a single definitive answer. At some point in the last decades atheism just became the norm. It's not really something we talk about, ever. We just assume that everyone around us share the same lack of faith.

One thing I love and everybody should love about Sweden: Filmjölk.

Pour some on your cereals and add some marmelade and you're good to go. I can't do without it.

I wouldn't say atheism, or even agnosticism, is the norm. In my experience, many people, when asked specifically, believe in an indefinite "something", just not the Christian god.

yeah i agree that the "something" deity is fairly common here now that you mention it

This thread lacks the superior Scandinavian pastries or Christmas deserts. Where is your honour? Of course some of these are a bit more Norwegian ;)!

You're trolling right ? The least good thing about Scandinavia is precisely pastries. Wienerbröd in stores are the last thing I would like to eat. Pepperkakor are good on the other hand but it's certainly an exception.

We got smart!

Yeah I think the trend is pretty clear. Everywhere where there's knowledge, less and less people turn to religion. That applies not only to Sweden, but to the whole world. I see religion in the same way that I see a children's story. As children we might be fascinated by those stories, but eventually we grow up and stop believing in fairy-tales.

No I am not trolling and we have quite a diversity here. I am more embarrassed by our warm food which is mostly dull traditional peasant food. I have been raised upon home made pastries and Christmas desserts and I think it is very unique. There are better things than wienerbrød and most store bought stuff taste like crap anyways.

That's not really true, tons of smart people (like scientists) are religious and there are highly developed countries that are much more religious than similarly developed ones. Religion and knowledge/science aren't mutually exclusive.

And they made him a Lord of Cinder. Not for virtue, but for might. Such is a lord, I suppose. But here I ask. Do we have a sodding chance?

Guys, there is one thing I've been thinking about regarding Landet Lagom Är Bäst.

We pretend to be all Anti-American most of the time, right? We also act like we are indifferent to the rest of the world in a sense, and only care about ourselves. And also, at least the younger generations, don't care about Sweden in general.
BUT, as soon as Sweden is mentioned in a Hollywood movie or a big tv-series we go all "FUCK YEEEEEAH!!! YES! Did you see that, we got mentioned! SWEDEN IN THA HOUSE!"

Why is that?

Wut. Alot of swede's love America, atleast american pop-culture. Well, people born 1970-1990 are.

... As soon as Sweden is mentioned in a Hollywood flick, talkshows or whatever they 90% of the time mix us up with Germany or Schweiz... Like "hellååå maj nejm is Inga! Aj kom from ssssccchhhhhhweden!".

:/

EDIT: To all you americans : There are no women named "Inga" in this fucking country. Try "Anna" or "Sara" instead.

Yeah, I've always found the representation of Swedes and Sweden in international media to usually be somewhat...questionable. Jag trodde alltid innan att Inga var ett östeuropeiskt namn. D: Ner med Inga!

I think the least offensive Swedish portrayal in recent history that I can recall was the antagonist from Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol. (That movie was kind of uncanny for me in how it had elements from the country I was born in, the city I grew up in, as well as the city I presently live in...all in one.)
