No...absolutely not. It exists to let designers preen in front of each other by proxy of models who are trained to be soulless meat puppets.

Could you imagine James Bond wearing that? LOL.

I'll never understand fashion. Yea, the models tend to be super skinny and not "hot" by any means. Victorian secret models tend to have some meat on them, no?

also, wtf at this:

yea, fashion shows are weird

Yeah, It's hard to take a story like this at face value when it's just some anonymous unspecific person/agency who turned her away. Especially when a video going viral is exactly what this girls' career needs.

Naming names is stupid. You want her to get blacklisted?

Isn't the fashion industry meant to create clothing that the average person would wear?

In high fashion, no, it definitely isn't. It's mostly for consumption by the rich, and for the entertainment of those interested. Ideas and trends found here can then trickle down to designs for the average person, in less extreme form.

That seems unnecessarily judgemental. The fashion industry has some negative aspects, but at its core, high fashion is people taking clothes and turning it into a form of entertainment and expression, often somewhat freed of practical considerations. (Rich people can then buy the resulting products, or buy custom clothes based on it.) If you don't find that interesting or entertaining, it's of no relevance to you, and you're free to ignore it.

Yeah, I can be serious because the Internet is full of manufactured drama, especially by people trying to garner hits on youtube or get followers on social media. I remember not long ago some Australian blogger even lied about having terminal cancer.

So when you hear about something happening that is well known to happen all the time, you normally say it "seems like bullshit" unless there are specific sources? Fucking absurd.

I don't think we're getting the whole story here. Yeah, the fashion industry has stupid standards, but I've worked on shoots for major luxury brands with models matching her proportions and curvier.

If I had to guess, she's getting turned away from agencies because her features are too commercial/glamour - blatant lip implants and other facial work just doesn't fly in fashion. A booker probably made some flippant remark about her body so she doesn't go and get more work done on her face.

Props to her though, she can probably ride this publicity wave to a few commercial gigs.

Well, before seeing that picture I wondered if there was more to the story. It's just some random girl on Youtube. The fact is, there are a lot of women trying to make it in the industry. The standards of beauty I imagine go above and beyond what the average person would consider attractive. Actually. it isn't necessarily about how attractive a person is per se, it is how well they look in a picture. You need to have the right bone structure.

Maybe girls should be encouged to I don't know maybe become scientists or doctors. She's part of the problem herself that she and generations of models before her created themselves. The race to the bottom. Now they can't handle it and cry unfairness. Reeks of double standards. Don't have any sympathy for them.

Maybe girls should be whatever they want to be?

As has been pointed out already, I doubt it has much to do with her bodyfat % and more with her bodytype just not being fit for the job. The fashion industry is highly competitive and there are plenty of models to choose from.

This definitely seems more like a publicity stunt.

Fashion is the worst and all clothes should be gathered up in a huge pile and burned because they contribute nothing and just help the rich get richer and tear down aspiring models hopes and dreams

I always wanted to ask this.....who in their right mind wears this?

is this normal in big cities?

Clothing at fashion shows is not meant to be worn by you. It's art. You don't have to like it, just as you may not like abstract paintings. But there is plenty of merit to the art form.

This is on point. Her plastic surgery is overdone. You don't see many of those plastic faces in modeling. Not saying that the industry would never turn down someone with her body type for being too big for their shoot. However, even if she dropped a few lbs (which would be very unhealthy, and she obviously doesn't need to do that, and absolutely shouldn't) she still wouldn't get many jobs, because she's had way too much work done on her face.

People, they're not saying she's fat or overweight. She most likely just didn't fit the type of models they were looking for, for that specific type of clothing/type. Not all models can do all modeling.

Considering the level of obesity in western countries and average woman's size/BMI, shouldn't the fashion industry start accommodating the average population rather than a minority? Don't they want money? lol

It's not even plastic surgery, it's fillers and botox.

She could just not get the fillers for six months to a year and look much better. Example: Megan Fox now vs. Megan Fox a couple years ago. I don't understand why people overdo the lips so much.

People keep saying this. You think any serious Fashion Conglomerate isn't going to do an easy google search on a name, find this video, and say 'Yeah we don't want that kind of person working for us who can turn negative at the drop of a pin'?

I mean....she's probably already blacklisted, and will be further blackballed the more viral this gets. Smaller fashion joints will probably pick her up, for the quick boost in image, but not the kind that she wants(That requires a ridiculous body)

Oh dear, what ever will she do if she can't join the ranks of thousands of other nameless pretty faces? Seems she is not getting work anyway and she has already starved herself enough if past pics are any indication. If anything the notoriety will get her hired.

Too many designers have no clue how to design clothing for the myriad of shapes women come in, so they stick to the body type with the least variance in measurements. In this model's case, being a bit bottom heavy means she differs too much from the stock items they keep. It's a shame.

It makes it really hard to buy clothing online, when you have no clue how it will fit your body shape. I'm top heavy and have a bit of a shorter torso than average, seeing how a dress fits on a tall, small chested model and trying to imagine it on me is pretty daunting. I really love how many brands have started to include instagram pics of various customers (with varying body shapes/sizes) wearing each item.

it's a concept piece. i find this kind of stuff to be the most interesting because it's creative and imaginative, I can appreciate it as a sort of art even though I'd laugh at anyone wearing it outside of a fashion show. fashion shows are largely about concepts and ideas, it's kinda like an art installation, especially with many of the french an japanese houses. if you think it looks ridiculous and would never want to wear it it kinda says more about your understanding than the qualify of the show/fashion.

I used to be heavily into fashion, knew people who worked at some of the bigger houses and even did some behind the scenes work but the industry is so full of shitty people with shitty personalities that I burned out and lost all interest. I'm happy I didn't pursue a career in that field but went into CS instead :)

If you're devoting your life to something as fatuous as the idea of physical beauty, you should already be aware that these fantastical standards may change on a whim. I don't feel bad for her.

I thought fashion shows were meant for designers to show off their new collection of clothes to the public, actually meant to be worn.

But apparently I was wrong, its meant to be "art". Now I know

You should see what they do in Russia etc. treat them like nothing, get their pics then shipped off to Europe and the US at a young age. Success or not, it's not a good industry to be involved with. Can't imagine what happens to some of the unsuccessful ones who get preyed upon.

What a shitty industry with such unrealistic and unhealthy standards. This girl is absolutely stunning and in no way big...like at all.

To my knowledge, there are shows that do either or, sometimes both.

Mock those people as much as you want, but they influence a significant amount of everyday wear.

She's too big for 'high fashion' but is high fashion really targeted towards the average person?
It's the models in magazines and on TV/adverts that the average girls seem to aspire to be like, or maybe pop stars.

I didn't think average women had hopes of looking like runway models and most women surely know that runway models are there to show off clothing, not their bodies?

Fashion industry doesn't employee enough straight men apparently.
