Swedish model considered too big to be model...

To my knowledge, there are shows that do either or, sometimes both.

Mock those people as much as you want, but they influence a significant amount of everyday wear.

I suppose

I thought fashion shows were meant for designers to show off their new collection of clothes to the public, actually meant to be worn.

But apparently I was wrong, its meant to be "art". Now I know

there's a wide spectrum of styles. some are straight up practical with straightforward display of ready to wear clothes. some are conceptual with fantastical pieces that will never be sold in stores, like I wrote earlier it can be used more as a image creation and marketing tool to drive perfume sales (especially for the haute couture houses). then there's a middle ground of shows where pieces that will show up in stores are mingled with conceptual stuff.

Too many designers have no clue how to design clothing for the myriad of shapes women come in, so they stick to the body type with the least variance in measurements. In this model's case, being a bit bottom heavy means she differs too much from the stock items they keep. It's a shame.

It makes it really hard to buy clothing online, when you have no clue how it will fit your body shape. I'm top heavy and have a bit of a shorter torso than average, seeing how a dress fits on a tall, small chested model and trying to imagine it on me is pretty daunting. I really love how many brands have started to include instagram pics of various customers (with varying body shapes/sizes) wearing each item.

Yeah. I suppose it would be difficult to make a dress that looks good on a variety of women. I think at the end of the day, they want to show the clothing looking its best. The truth is, it isn't going to look good on some women.

You mention tall, small chested models, but of course you would probably need a model with a completely different body type for some dresses. The more revealing and sensual dresses tend to be more suited for women who have large breasts. That type of dress just wouldn't look as a good on a tall, skinny and small chested woman. It goes both ways I guess.

She sure is getting exactly what she wanted from this "crisis."
That really depends of what she wants to model or with who she desires to work and after this little mess and if she reveals or leak who were the ones who rejected her she is so going to get blacklisted.

That's crazy! She seems scarily skinny to me. I don't get how any skinnier than that can be appealing at least in my eyes. And also she looks beautiful

I don't see the controversy. Her body type isn't right for most high fashion designers aesthetics. That just leaves 99% of the modeling world open to her.

She is already underweight and very skinny! Moddling industry with their exaggerations like "she's wayyyyyy to 'big'" makes me want to puke.

why don't designers hire 12 year old boys if that the body type they want to design for?

this

I always wanted to ask this.....who in their right mind wears this?

fashion-pd1.jpg

is this normal in big cities?

yes, that's very normal. Coworkers has one in orange and my other friend wore her's to work the same day... used ot be so rare to see two in one day, but now practically everyone wears them. This is basically the same as Michael Kors now.

Right.

It's a pretty great social media strategy though. At least now she's getting all this media attention so she can go and pose in some magazines for a few weeks and earn a few thousand euros.

I can't help roll my eyes whenever I see someone criticize the fashion industry. It's literally looking for genetic anomalies and very specific features. It's rare to see a high fashion model that's not otherworldly looking. If Christian Lacroix started using "normal looking" people in ads they simply would not sell.

Look at Daphne Groeneveld. Look at the models on this list:

...and the WORST is the whole Dove "real beauty" campaign where they paint themselves as heroes by showing "real women"....none of whom have cystic acne or are disfigured. Most have nearly flawless skin. It's just ridiculous.

The Statue of David has no coccyx bone. He is an impossible beauty standard from 600 years ago.

Ancient Egypt art exaggerated eyes and made people impossibly thin:

You can go on and on and on to the beginning of time.

Are they saying that she's too big as in overweight or too big as in literally too big? She looks like she's taller than average in that video.

Sure, I think its a great notion that people who do nothing but stand around and look good for a camera or others to gawk at is a more financially rewarding occupation than many other occupations, especially the ones that rely on good will, volunteers and donations to actually survive because why would we reward them when we cna shower the beautiful people with money for just....well, existing.

welp, that's how it goes. the real trick is to let things exist in the world without them totally affecting your self-worth, despite you having no real world experience with them at all. a real tough one right there, i'm sure.

The fashion industry would look very different if it was run by straight men lol.

One argument for using girls who essentially resemble clothes hangers is that they won't draw your eyes away from what the designer wants you to see - the clothes. A shapely woman will detract from what the artist wants you to see. And then you have the Karl Lagerfeld argument that anyone over a size 0 is a "fat mummy who sits at home eating crisps and watching TV".

I am slightly overweight and know a girl who, compared to me, is a fucking toothpick. Now she's going to London to be a plus size model.

smfh

Ok? Then she should lose some more weight if she wants to work in the model industry. Or find a different company that is ok with her size, if she can't and doesn't want to lose weight she should find another job.
