Yeah, I mentioned in the OP and linked; you'll also be able to preorder through normal means as well. This is just to preorder through Nintendo.

I logged in to reserve my spot, then I saw that they charge you the $500 upfront? Nowhere else charges for preorders lmao.
I don't know if I'll be ready to pull the trigger in a week. MKW looks great but I'll be balls deep in XCX for a while and that's not getting any upgrades at launch for some unknown reason

They don't charge you upfront. They have the price listed there, so you know how much it will cost down the line. I literally just signed in and said "reserve" or whatever button and I got an "okay cool, we'll let you know when it's time to place your order".

I get a lot of use out of NSO. The classic NES and SNES games alone at the $20 tier are great two player fun. The lack of voice chat people have complained about was never an issue for me because I always use discord to chat with friends regardless of which platform I play on because it sucks to have to use each independently.

Smyths in the UK already opened their pre-orders. I grabbed the Mario bundle since the cost difference makes it well worth it. They don't take payment until just before dispatch too which means I haven't got to fuck around with a refund if I change my mind up until the end of May.

Fucking hell, I have had NSO since day one, have thousands of hours of game time, have opted in to share data BUT had opted out of their email spam. They did the draw for invites on 31 March, so even allowing their promo spam probably won't get me an invite day one.

1 for my sister for her Birthday (I believe this was the God Of War Bundle as she played GOW 2018 and loved it and wanted the new one)
1 for my cousin in France, they rarely visit and she is a gamer and because of her good grades, I surprised her with a PS5 as she was asking for one last time her and my aunt visited the US

I'm tempted to try. However, I'm not even sure how many hours I've used my Switch.
I played through Mario Odyssey, some of Breath of the Wild, and a bit of Marvel Ultimate Alliance, between 2017 and now, but that is the extent of me using my Switch. So maybe not even hit the 50 hour requirement.

The Switch would be just for me as my sister no longer really cares for Animal Crossing as she is a bigger Sims fan and goes ham on that
So over the last several generations, I've been the only one in my family that buys Nintendo handhelds, but tbh, I'm sure one of my cousins might actually want my old Switch when I upgrade to 2 so....who knows, maybe I might buy another in the future if they have like a OLED model or some Pro XL version etc and just give away my old one or something.
With Switch 2 being BC, someone getting my old one as a gift lol

I actually disagree, it treats new customers like scalpers when someone buying from them directly that has never bought before from them, should never be treated that way in the first place. I've bought many things directly from companies before, like several PS5s, Square I got a lot of shit and never was I asked to provide some evidence I was a gamer or link to some account to ONLY have folks who beat xyz game or some weird shit like this, thus Square had no issue taking my money for those special edition FFVII remakes, FF Collection etc

With the pro and going through the Sony side, it was MUCH better, Sony was selling through their own service heavily and it solved a lot of that. Its also the only way to get around the scalpers of the disk drives re-selling them for 150 on ebay and junk. Nintendo is doing exactly what they should first and foremost- get the machine into the hands of people who love nintendo and will represent a good user experience early- because they're going to SELL the units either way....

Note, I have never had their online service. And like I said previously, I may not even have 50 hours of lifetime use. So doubt I'll get an invite.
