I think there is something wrong with you. Do you find when you speak to regular people in real life and tell them all this stuff. Their eyes tend to glaze over.
 
I got a $450 system that is about the right price. At most $50 over.

I got a $50 Mario kart. Thats cool. Cheaper than the Wii U one.

I will get Donkey Kong for $70. 10 more than I'd like but it seems like one of their top teams.

Im not buying any game for $80.

Wii U comparison is lazy. True next-gen Nintendo handhelds haven't sold under ~80mn units.

And Nintendo console platforms were long in decline sales wise except for the Wii. GC, for example, only sold 23mn. And of course Nintendo had 2 platforms back then while they only have 1 now.

Like I said no biggie either way if you agree or not. My main issue is while I have no problem with threads complaining about prices. I do not see the point in threads actually complaining about people not complaining. Pure lunacy at it's finest. Lots of fun though.

The simple design pretty much always draws your eyes to the little greem notifications. And Nintendo will be using this to reach customers that will not be on gaming forums etc. I know my sister knew the Switch 2 was coming out because of this feature.

Good synopsis.

The Wii audience only needed 1 SMG game. A lot of times the 2nd game doesn't sell as well on Nintendo platforms. TotK didn't sell nearly as well as BotW. Skyward Sword didn't sell as well as Twilight Princess. 1 is more than enough for a lot of consumers. I read that NIntendo encouraged Ubisoft to only release 1 Mario Rabbids game. And Ubi didn't listen but later said they should have. ie the 2nd game didn't do nearly as well.

I don't think the Wii audience moved to tablets.

The DS casuals were the ones who moved to smart devices. Smartphones, in particular, meant they already had a touchscreen device in their pocket more than capable of playing the types of casual games the DS hooked casuals on and for less $$$ and more conveniently obtained. So at that point... Nintendo could do little to nothing to regain those customers.

The Wii mainly just had the casuals playing WiiSports and to a lesser extent MK Wii and Wii Fit. And when the Wii stopped I don't think they went somewhere else. They just left. I'm sure they bought tablets and phones and played some games on those, but those experiences weren't replacing WiiSports. And probably quite a few Wii customers in between the 'core' and casuals were the kids and folks who bought the handhelds traditionally but went after the Wii as well due to its appeal.

And as you said Nintendo consoles were long in a sales decline. And what's left is the same sort of traditional audience that was there for the GC which sold 23mn. The ones who want a powerful home console were already leaking to PS and Xbox.

Also the audience is always changing as are the choices the audience has so the understanding of their audience is always ongoing. I don't know if they reached any sort of nirvana regarding their audience. IT's always an ongoing process. MOre data doesn't necessarily tell you what the audience will clamor for next. The audience themselves hardly know.

I never see many Nintendo systems or games in Poland.

I've seen some Nintendo consoles in Media Mart, but nothing in other stores like Auchan or Empik etc.

Maybe it's just because I'm always in the small city of Jelenia Góra. Is it different in the big cities like Wrocław or Warszawa?

On the Switch there was only one first party game that was $70. It came out a few years after Sony had already established the $70 standard for current generation games and TotK was a beast of a game so I think most were reasonably ok with it.

If the games on Switch 2 were $70, it hardly would have been breaking news. It's $10 more than last gen and the same as what everyone else is currently pricing their games at. The fact that they hiked the price $20 compared to what their base is used to paying and doing it on their very first next gen game which is in turn setting a new ceiling for the whole industry is what has quite a few people angry and cautious.

Even though I'm buying a Switch 2, I'm not quite mentally ready to dive into $80 games. I'm sure I'll end up doing it for the next Splatoon and will be forced by my wife to do it for Animal Crossing, but other games I'll likely hold back a little while for whatever small sale I can find.

The human element will fold like a cheap suit. IT's $10 more. And the games that will be asking for $10 more are easily the most polished games on the planet of their scale in my experience and are their best selling franchises.

Metroid Prime 4 will be a big indicator to me on what direction they're going in for pricing. Niche franchise and cross-gen so you would assume $70. If it's $80 then it's a lock that Luigis Mansion, Mario Party, Pikmin, etc. will all follow suit.

OP, consumers will vote with their wallets. There is a price ceiling, but we aren't at it. $500 dollars is objectively not a lot of money. If it is for someone, buying video game consoles is the least of their problems.

I live in smalltown 60miles away from russian border so wouldnt know, had to buy all my shit online anyways, did that even back in the 90s where u had to take phone number(landline) of videogames store from ur fav paper magazine ad(ofc u bought all of them montly, as a proper hardcore gamer, gotta have selfrespect after all :P ), then u actually called the store and ordered game u wanted :D

This is some disingenuous crap. Mario Kart 8 is a $60 game with $25 in DLC spread out over many years.

If you're going to tack that on to the base game, even though it's optional DLC. Then you need to add on the DLC cost for virtually every game that came before it to find the "real price" of the game. This is in the context that MK8 was already a totally complete game before it got any DLC; it's purely exhorbitant content and not needed to "finish" an incomplete game.

Now, you may be onto a metaphor if World were releasing in a TOTALLY feature-complete state and was confirmed to NEVER receive any DLC whatsoever. But I assume World will get DLC that will push the final cost over $100 over several years. Nonetheless, if someone right now said "I'm NEVER paying 100 for Mario Kart" I'd say they need help. The price of the game is eighty US dollars. If there is a map pack of tracks of other Mario Kart games over a year later and someone says OMG the real price of Kart is REALLY ninety dollars now, just slap them.

Opposite. And yes the point is gamers are already spending more than $80 on a game as it was. The line between DLC and initial content always a murky line as it was.

So it obviously depends on what you get for your $80. Not that it is $80.

Then you have to factor in ...that there is a new reality where game prices are going up because the games cost more to make and the audience is not growing for those games.

Yeah, no kidding. The question you're stirring to the surface is "where's the line between how much a game costs and how much its DLC costs". It might depend on whether it was a complete game when it released or required updates to be "fixed" or completed.

But it's not murky in this case. Mario Kart 8 was a complete game, with a hearty selection of its own tracks. Rather than making a new game, they stuffed it with remade tracks from old games. It was as much (or more?) content than the base game, for $25. But it wasn't required to "complete" Mario Kart 8, it just "adds to what you spent" on the game over its life -less essential than even say BOTW DLC, which at least added to BOTW's story. This is just old maps!

Any which way you slice it, many gamers put over $80 into MK8. Are you getting that much more for that money than MKW? Yet to be determined. Nevermind the $60 part of MK8 originally came out 11 years ago ie in a world where the development costs were dramatically less.

A lot of people spent $80 on BotW. They couldn't spend more than $70 on ToTK.

At the same time, does anyone like paying 25% more for their chicken sandwich with 2 pickles on a buttered bun today than a few years ago? Not that I know of.

Turns out it's cheap as hell when you trade a useless Xbox towards it.
$70 games sucks, but nintendo are like the last ones to get to this point. No idea what they're going with Mario Kart but I hope it changes or has ongoing free dlc ala Splatoon or something.

When you include tax it's pretty much $500. And let's be honest if you're getting this on day 1, you're buying MK. So if you buy the bundle, or buy it separately it's almost $550 when you include tax.

Dumb take. The 5090 and 5080 and switch 2 are unique there is only really 1 type. If the only PS5 available was the pro, then people would pay it and then so have stock issues at launch, though obviously wouldn't sell at the rates normal PS5 but still great.
