The 'internet' hated Switch 2 — consumers bought it anyway [Japan Times]

That's a false narrative. Almost all their big IPs got a sequel during the console's first years.

Spider-man 2018 => Miles Morales 2020, then Spider-man 2 2023
Ratchet and Clank 2016 => Rift Appart 2021
Horizon Zero Dawn 2017 => Forbidden West 2022
GT Sport 2017 => GT7 2022
God of War 2018 => Ragnarok 2022
Little Big Planet 2014 => Sackboy 2020
Astrobot rescue mission 2018 (Playroom 2020) => Astrobot 2024
Death Stranding 2019 => Death Stranding 2 2025
Ghost of Tsushima 2020 => Ghost of Yôtei 2025

+ new games like Returnal, Stellar Blade, Rise of the Rônin

The only missing stuff would be a new Uncharted game which didn't get a new episode since Lost Legacy (but there is already a new Naughty Dogs game planned)
Your proving his point with that list, 9 games over 5 years.
People don't count third party games

There are people in this thread bragging about buying a handheld without an oled screen in 2025 and for paying $80 for games with simple technology.Wake up, guys, that's not something to be proud of.

Solution

If you haven't bought switch 2 yet, don't buy it until the oled version comes out

And if you've already bought the console, you can react by not buying any games until March 2026.

It's always fascinating when legit concerns and issues are labeled "hate". You don't want 90 euro games that never get discounted? You bloody hater!

Eh, I don't know if prettending to be a connoisseur who shits on anything that isn't oled is a better source of pride

Nintendo have an very firm and accurate idea of what their customers want.

Most of the criticism was coming from people who don't like Nintendo and the clueless media.

yeah but most people don't have the money to buy a 1000 dollar phone. them shits get financed by their cell service provider

Im Out Not Me GIF

everyone with a brain knew the Switch 1 was gonna do numbers.

And so will the switch 2, anyone with half a braincell knows it will.

Terminally online people don't represent the masses or the real world. They live in a loud bubble. This place, Reddit, Resetera, Twitter, Tiktok, Discord, Facebook are all echo chambers devoid of reality.

I'd suggest taking your med's at this point in the day before things turn out worse.

Nintendo is about to set up an offical "apologies" department because they can't meet the high demand and some of you all are still waiting for it to die down, just fyi none of you haters are counting the fact that Nintendo is going to bombard the console with 5 big titles for the rest of the year too, I'd find a good relaxation method because you all are going to need it.

When the word "hater" is mentioned/spouted, you've already lost the argument

Fuck assholes who declare trends from limited data. Of course the Switch2 sold a lot, but so far only 2+% of OG switch owners bought one. It is fucking moronic to declare it a success. Sure it probably will be, but longer term, the things people hate about it could make it sell significantly less than the Switch.

Yeah I'm going to willingly swallow up the anti-consumer shit they are putting out on July 17th. I hope it tastes good.
I encourage you to spend as much money as possible. Hell, give them a lil bonus on top of the price as a sign of just how good of a job they're doing.

Or maybe consumers are actually smart and very capable of evaluating what they want and how much they're willing to pay for it.
Let's stick with this since it's the main point - I've never said otherwise. Clearly consumers can choose what they want to buy whether they like it or not.

Here's the thing though, we've been seeing a continuous bump in prices across the board from software, hardware, and services. If people don't put up any kind of pushback, then companies are going to continue that creep to see what they can get away with which is basically what that article is saying. "oh sure, they'll bitch about prices, but they'll still buy your shit" is awful and yet true.

And since so many are happily rolling over for this, those prices are only going to go up till eventually it does impact you. Then what? How many people say this wish more would have pushed back against "horse armor" or paying for online? Are you going to start saying something when games his 90 bucks? People can affect long-term change for a little short term inconvenience, but, judging from reactions here, they take offense at that.

That's fine then, pay your higher prices, but I don't want to hear complaining down the line when shit goes up yet again.

Yeah I don't get the hate. Especially every time I see one those threads talking about how bad the screen is. Feels like I live in an alternate reality where my Switch 2 performs great and has no issues.

The majority of people hating on the Switch 2 doesn't even have plans to buy one… It's just console war.

Someone literally told me that if you buy a Switch 2 you are responsible for millions of jobs being lost in the industry to AI, I am still trying to figure out how 😂

So now it isn't enough to buy anti-consumer. I have to be a charity as well? Aren't you special.
Lmao, son, you already are with how happy you are to toss money to them.
Must be hard being crying for the money that other people spend on things that they like on gaming forums 🤣

You want to hang onto a victimization complex thinking people are hating on you for enjoy your Switch 2. Nobody is doing that. The thing you're willingly ignoring is people choosing to support higher prices drives up the prices for everyone. It's not a hard concept.

I had to use a guy who brought mine from Hong Kong since Nintendo decided not to launch in Central America and the Caribbean. Paid a pretty penny too.

This time Nintendo found a wall.

GTA 6 might be worth $75 because it's a cutting-edge game. But Nintendo wants to teach the market that games are worth more than the technology used in them. So GTA 7 will cost $90 and have GTA 4 graphics. In the end this affects us all.

Let people talk with their wallets and don't suffer for things that other people enjoy… Is not that hard. Welcome to the free market 😉… I don't have issue expending extra $10 for a thing that i like.

It is a fucking hobby, get your head out of your ass.

Maybe get yours out of Nintendo's and the rest. Either you're somehow completely oblivious to fucking constant complaints about higher costs or you're just handwaving it away because...you like to spend extra money? Fuck if I know.

And apparently that "fuck if I care" attitude is leading to the aforementioned but also more microtransactions, GaaS, AI implementations, less physical, shitty digital ownership rights, etc. That's your future.

It is a fucking hobby and not your damn insulin shots if it is not worth it at its price point you can stop buying them.

looking at the Nintendo Wii U, it's unlikely that these fans will exceed 8 million.
I think there are a lot more people buying the S2 than hardcore Nintendo fans. But things definitely seem to be cooling off — which is why I'd guess that the President of Nintendo is trying to keep the FOMO going with his "apology".

Ultimately, I have no doubt this will perform better than the WiiU but we are going to start seeing the S2 sales level. I can't see this device outperforming the S1.

Some people act like the video games are food or a necessity 🤣 Especially when it comes to Nintendo. I don't see people crying this much in GPUs related threads.

Are you honestly telling me you've never complained about the prices of non-essential items? Never???

Btw, I have. PS is my main platform and I don't buy their $70 games until later on sale. Same goes for their controllers. Also I noped out of PS+ when they hiked up the prices and maybe will go back if they have a good sale on it. I've already changed my buying habits.

I think they could sell 20-30 million within a month if they had the stock. So these numbers don't mean much until the diehards all got theirs.
Came to say this. It's weird that people take any type of victory lap this early on. For example, there were some months were Series X/S sold better than PS5 early in in the life cycle and we saw his that turned out.

What we have now really shows nothing about the legs or long term interest at all. Especially coming off of switch 1. If switch 2 were to "only" sell like 80 million units, that would be a pretty big failure.

If GAF says it's going to bomb, that's pretty damn close to a guaranteed smashing success
I'll never forget the betting against the switch 1 before release. Was hilarious to watch.

Here we are, another console gen after it, and people are still bringing up WiiU

Exactly. Nintendo could sell 40 million switch 2 cardboard boxes. Let's see how year 2-3 go.

I just hope they bring a better oled version out asap.

It was always going to have an enormous launch. Let's see in a few years how's that progressing compared to Switch 1 generation and how are the games selling. Usually studios that support the start of the new hardware have a free sales boost because of people wanting to start building their libraries, but it seems that third party releases aren't doing that hot.

I'm also curious how the long-term reception to key cards will look like, especially if traditional cartridges will become a minority.
