Switch friends, what is going on with my unit?

I've had a Switch since launch. Its worked great until a week ago. It quit charging and the dock is blinking green. Googled the blinking dock, seems like it's saying it's not getting enough power (which is strange since the PS5 Pro and X is plugged in there). I couldn't get it to charge anywhere and figured the battery was finally dead. I replaced the battery, still not charging. I figured it was the USB-C port on the unit and I don't really feel like replacing that myself.

I decided to take it to a local shop. Presto, it works there using a USB to USB-C cable in this dudes laptop. I get in my car, works using a USB to USB-C cable. I get home, it doesn't charge again using the official power cord. I then grabbed my son's power cord that he has for his Switch Lite, it doesn't work. The cable works for his Switch Lite though. Both of them do.

I grab a USB to USB-C cable and plug it into one of those USB transformers you get with cell phones and junk. This particular one is the SNES USB cable one. It charges.

I switch out the cable to the official charger again. Nothing.

So what the heck is possibly going on? And it is charging because tis now at 50% when it was at 30% earlier.

I mean - it sounds like the charging cable is bad, no? Or am I misreading somehow?

Can you use another cord to the dock?

Edit: Sometimes cables will continue to "charge", but for example a lightning cable may no longer function at full capacity. This sounds kind of like what you're describing if I'm reading right.

Send it to Nintendo at this point.

Staples and FedEx Centers are Partnered with Nintendo to recieve and fix any Switch/Joycon issues that you can't resolve on your own.

1.Go to Nintendo.com and their troubleshooting page.

2. Print out a Repair order after going through the troubleshooting process.

3. Go to Staples/local FedEx center with your Switch, Dock and printed repair order sheet and send it off

Yeah it sucks but you should recieve your Switch/Dock back within a week completely repaired with only a slight repair charge (joycon repairs are completely free).

Is it the same cable that works in your car but not inside? Have you tried a different port or socket for the power source? It could just be a funky cable. Does the Switch charge normally with just the cable and not using the dock?

If i remember correctly, I had strange charging issues with my Switch (and my 8bit controller when charging off the dock). Ended up having to unplug the dock for a few minutes and power cycle the Switch. That worked for me, but I did have to keep doing it every so often. When plugged directly into the USB C cable though, my Switch seemed to charge normally everytime.

It's old, its tired. It's depressed because it's bigger bro is coming soon.

You had it since launch, and no issues until now. I'd say it's time to let it go.

  1. Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds. It should start in SAFE MODE
  2. From there do a soft reboot (hold volume up, volume down and the power button all at the same time)
  3. If it doesn't work, your official power cord might have something wrong with it
  4. Maybe your port is finicky and/or not getting enough power from Switch Lite charger
  5. Slam it on the ground

charger part inside switch maybe?
i'm not tech savvy wizard, but i think it's like IC charger or something, the part where it accepts the charge?
