When people on here say they think Switch sales will collapse, what they really men is they hope they will.

The main demographics of Wii had already abandoned the Wii system for smartphone at the start of 5th year of Nintendo Wii on the market. Nintendo core titles like Galaxy 2 and Skyward Sword performed below the expectation.

Nintendo Switch in the 5th year on the market, on the other hand, still going strong thanks to the main demographics this time is mainly consisted of Nintendo core fans instead of soccer mom and casual gamers. Enhanced port game like Mario 3D world is going to outsold Mario Galaxy 2 in less than a year lol.

Anyone that are hoping for Switch to follow the same pattern as Wii sales trajectory is in for a rude awakening.

Switch is a different beast for Nintendo. Wii was falling off the cliff with dry support from Nintendo while there are many big sellers ready to launch at the end of this year and next year.

I'm guessing triggers most people in GAF that "underpower system" is selling well. Just go look at the old threads when Switch was coming out, most them were hoping for Switch would fail.

Big difference is PSP was never promoted as a TV system and any docks or special cables you need to hook up to a TV are separate purchases and most people probably dont even know about them.

Switch is promoted as a dual action device with a docking station for everyone right from the start.

Like I said it doesn't matter, like it or not majority of game industry and Nintendo themselves are treating as "console".

Give Switch another year or two and it'll pass PS4. Sales are actually trending up as opposed to trending down, so it should be no problem.

Nobody cared about Switch's classification as console, portable or hybrid for unit sales until now when Switch is on track to blow past PS4 in probably about 18 months. So to downplay it, it's now hard classified as a portable so it doesn't count.

But as you said, regardless of classification it'll be Nintendo's best selling hardware and beating PS4 soon (and if it sticks around long enough it might even beat PS2's 150 million).

Some gamers just cant accept that a Nintendo system is selling great and zooming past 360 and PS3 and has it's sights on Sony's other systems.

Again, distinction between "portable" and "console" I've only heard in english, for other languages I've heard everyone call them the same, "consola" in spanish and "geimu" in japanese are two examples I already gave. It doesn't matter what you call it, it's a dedicated gaming device, period.

Main console or not the Switch Lite isn't a home console and it shouldn't be included when comparing home console numbers. I'm not a hater I've got a Switch lite, It just doesn't make sense to compare a handheld to home consoles.

Yep, I never said isn't the current Nintendo's main gaming system or that Sony main system isn't PS5 (technically still is PS4 the most played one but in terms of hardware sales yes, it's PS5).

Regarding the next main Pokemons, I think with Go, Pearl & Diamond and Arceus they will be done in Switch. If they release more will be smaller ones like the Moba, Picross or the F2P puzzle. I think the Switch successor will be released in a couple of years or so and it will get the new batch of remakes and the next main one.

This doesn't make any sense. Switch's tie ratio is extraordinarily high for this point in its life cycle, and it's doing it without bundled software or digital only games included. They haven't even done a selects line yet. Their ten million plus sellers have moved those units at full price.

It's portable, it has the portable version of some games, like half of their users got it as second console because (in addition to play the Nintendo games) it's a portable, it has the portable market monopoly and what it makes it different from the other consoles is that it's portable, it get some series of games that previously got other portables and its sales curve seems to have changed from the PS4/Wii model it had before its peak to a more DS-like model during the fiscal year of its peak and the current one if it sells what Nintendo predicted and the Switch Lite is only a handheld, not a console.

So no, the industry consider it a hybrid that is more a portable than a home console. And in the case of Lite, a handheld and not a console.

Quite a bit of incorrect information here.

It's only been bundled with a free game on Black Friday with Mario Kart 8, which counts for a very small amount of Switches sold. Other "bundles" have been the full price of the system plus the full price of the game.

Nintendo does not count digital only games in its software totals; Sony does. So comparisons between the two are not apples to apples. Regardless, Switch already has a tie rate over 7, and it will only grow as the system ages.

Nintendo Selects have launched anywhere from 3-6 years after launch of a system. Switch is approaching 4 1/2 years since launch. If such a line is coming, it could launch anytime in the next two years and still be consistent with pest systems. However, given the length of this console's life is projected to be longer, they may wait longer to launch the line. They've done one for every system except for NES and virtual boy.

This where the real benefit of consolidating into one device comes in. In 2011 Nintendo had teams developing games for Wii, Wii U, DS and 3DS. In 2021 probably all their teams are working on Swtich.

COVID hurt them like everyone else, but in 2021 they are publishing roughly 1 game per month and after the September Direct we should have a better look at their 2022 line up. I'm expecting that next year they will publish at a similar rate.

I don't care about home or handheld. Those are video game consoles, because their main purpose is gaming. And believe it or not, a smartphone's main purpose is still to phone, so it's not a pc. People use smartphones now instead of dumb phones for a reason and it's not because they like swiping to end a call.
A lot of people will buy switch for its portability but it doesn't mean they don't like to also play at home. I'm just saying to deny that people buy switch due to its portability is to bury your head in the sand. The 3DS sold gangbusters vs the Wii U even though they were both "video game consoles". As far as I know 3DS sold more than the PS2 even. Switch is not only Wii U's successor but also the 3DS'.

NPD has separated home and portable consoles for decades, and has categorized Switch as the former. I don't think it matters, as it's a hybrid, so it's both by definition. It's really only relevant when tracking sales across generations.
