I can't believe I had no idea this thread existed. Almost 1000 replies and I never noticed it. I see kayos changed his avatar already [LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL]

They won't, if you're bothered by it, play in Japanese which has voiced skits.

Is that confirmed? Because Namco is re-translating ToS1, so they will have to redo the voice acting. I think there is a chance.

Guys, a quick break from the localization excitement.

For those who have played the Vita Tales of games, would you say Tales of Hearts R or Tales of Innocence R was better? I've never played either when they released on the NDS.

Based on the demos alone, I preferred Hearts R for some reason. I think the consensus is Innocence R is better though.

They aren't re-translating it, it's been debunked by several different Namco Reps (including Isshak, one of the EU community managers who said to take this as official)

Innocence R seems to be miles better than its DS counterpart so far since I just started it. The controls feel better (ex: switch lines/free run with L-stick, move on your line with the D-pad, etc.). OP looks nicer, but I prefer the older song. I just wish the environments didn't look so drab and that the menu was coloured differently. The dungeon design is still pretty meh, though. Some of the skits aren't voiced, but the more important ones are.

Hearts R's demo made me want to play its DS counterpart since the DS version's battle system was more fun. Comboing enemies wasn't that difficult in the demo, either. I should be getting Hearts R soon, so I might start it in a few months. But the charm of the original Hearts just seemed to have been left out. There are Hearts R demo impressions on this page, if you're interested.

Both Vita games have random battles.

This is what my life has down to on GAF. I'm a mascot. An avatar bet dummy. And now a good luck charm.

I had no idea that the info was debunked. Thanks.

Considering the games and teams that worked on the originals releases and the type of remakes they got, one game had nowhere to go but up and the other one's only option was to go down :p

Well, it doesn't help that you talk about it constantly in many different threads to the point of making it a bit of a focal point.

Meh. It's fine. I know I'm not an avatar bet addict. I'm in no way hell a mascot. A good luck charm? Maybe.

Gotcha! I'm basically tired of waiting for some games to become localized (if they even will, VC3 D: ) and have started importing again but I don't understand a lick of Japanese. I'll primarily be using guides and such to try and get around but at least Tales games have a good enough battle system that I shouldn't need too much help with.

I hate to sound like a broken record but I hated Graces. It's literally one of the very few games in my life that I forced myself to play through to the end. But I want to remain optimistic about the series and other titles available so I'm willing to give them a try, especially these Vita titles. And I'm definitely happy about the Xillia announcements since I've been reassured about their quality from some of you lovely folks in here :)

I'm pretty sure a fan translation now exists for Innocence DS so there's no need for a guide if you have a flash cart or something.

Hey, you know the rules.

Do not recommend games developed in part by Dimps unless they are Sonic Advance 1.

Suikoden 5 (canon) by Dimps

BatDan

Bane? Get them on board, I'll call it in.

How about the sequels?
And........ *looks at list of games* Wow there's a lot of crap.
OH, Street Fighter IV!

Octopus... >:|

The only good thing that Dimps did in the past two years was semi-accurate speed for Classic Sonic in Sonic Generations 3DS and they still got the rest of the game wrong because the implemented bad level design that started rearing its head in SA2 (the level maps had similar design in that they kept descending to a point) and definitely SA3 started rearing its head halfway through the game. Rush Adventure was where the level design wasn't that bad, but then they fell off-track again. :/

Anyway. This thread is about Tales. I don't like the animations in Tempest that much or the movement. And the structure of the game is so simple since you're generally going from one point to the next just to advance the story rather than completing puzzle dungeons or anything. I feel the worldbuilding in that game fell so short. And to be fair, the game itself is really short.

Milla's side first all the way!

I played Milla's side first. It's not a good idea. We should really stress for newcomers that Jude's side is best done first for story reasons.

And yikes, yeah, unless it's the Budokai series, Super Street Fighter IV or Sonic Advance 1, Dimps can go away (I also didn't mind Sonic Colors DS).

You know, I wonder if Tales of the Tempest R will be welcomed back in as a mothership game if they heavily improved it like fixing the length of the game, rebooting the story, and rebooting the battle system.

You know, I'm not remotely surprised that if the game does get remade, it's gonna be the last of the DS ones to do so. Because like you said, they don't have to actually remake the game. They have to completely build up from almost nothing. Essentially they have to make an entirely new game with just the same characters and general plot outline, but even that needs work.

Speaking of characters, Tempest has the straight up worst designs of the series. Not even Inomata could be bothered to try for that game.

Heh, didn't know this thread was around. Howdy! Been playing the 3DS port of Abyss as my first real intro to the Tales series, and it's been neat, so far. :)

It's a good thing you're starting with Abyss. Your enjoyment of the series can only go up from here.

To buy Tales of the Abyss on the 3DS or not... worth it?

If you are itching for an English handheld Tales game, it is probably the only option you got. (Unless you hunt down a copy of Tales of Eternia on PSP).

It's pretty much the same as the PS2 version.

Sorry but everything in tempest is not good.
Graphics sucks , story is horrible , characters are laughable , battle system is a mess..
the music is ... i have no words for the music.
Tempest is an horrible game... there is nothing to salvage... I'll be clear ... Don't try to play tempest , just to see how bad it is ... There is no point... Avoid Tales of tempest .. There is a reason why namco doesn't acknowledge the game existance, don't find out that reason the hard way.

Watch them announce Tales of Tempest R... Developed by Dimps.

Sigh*

i'm not against Tempest R , but the R would need a total Rehaul of all the mecanics .

I thought giving the main characters a spot in the spin off games, RM, VS, Twin Braves, and having them be cameo costumes would be acknowledging the game's existence?

If you haven't played Abyss yet, I say go for it.

Load times are pretty much nonexistant vs. the PS2 version. The 3D is crap, though.

Hmmm, yeah, I think I will cave in after completing PxZ then. Will try and finish it before playing Xillia next month. And try to find a copy of Vesperia somewhere to replay it after that. Feeling like marathoning through some Tales games all of a sudden. :p

They demoted it, it was a mothership title and now it's an escort title. That's a big enough shame.
Tempest was the main reason why the term "escort" was first used, but they still include it in spin-offs games, as cameos in other Tales titles and in events and media presentations.

Yes, but for some reason they have continued to feature it as if it still was a mothership title. Down to featuring the title as a cameo weapon in Graces f and Xillia 2. I don't get it. If its an old shame (and God knows it should be) why keep acknowledging its existence?

Just started Tales of Vesperia for the first time. So far i love Yuri's dog. W00f W00f <3

Repede is the best mascot ever. And he was awesome in battle, despite having like the worst Mystic Arte ever. The one he got in the PS3 version was much better though still kinda weak. Though I suppose there's not much they could have given him.

But they do >_<

Yep.

I was overexagerrating ..but that's how i despise this game.
It might be best that i don't talk about tempest anymore because i can't think straight when i touch that subject.

if tempest R is made, they have to change the battle system, the story, the music and re do the dialog, if this minimum is not done they screw them!
