Not to sound like a broken record but "he sucks". He does less damage than physical fighters and is worse at keeping combos going. That's on top of the spell queue problem you mentioned.

The best offensive spell in ToS is Photon.

I'd probably play Xillia. All the skits are voiced, one of the biggest downers of Symphonia.

That should be a given considering Xillia came out much later

Tales games aren't really "exploration" RPGs, but Symphonia has more to do/find.

For a newcomer Xillia should be easier to get into as it feels less dated, but both are good games.

if you have a 360 i'd also suggest Vesperia(for some reason that game always looked better than anything after it imo) sucks that bamco never wanted to release it on the ps3 over here.

You could try Graces F too, shouldn't be that expensive. The battle system is awesome, probably my favorite of the series, but the story and characters are kinda bland. Though Malik is my favorite, and his voice actor nailed it. Loved his voice in the game.

Graces f hate squad! Graces f is better than Xillia IMO. Both are worth $20 on special (I bought limited editions on release for both, no regrets). Future arc skits add a lot to the characters, it's just story that's weak (and frankly I think all Tales games have weak stories).

Played Symphonia HD for a few moments. What a lazy job, lol. No excuse not for sharper graphics and 60fps. Still plays well enough and the soundtrack's better than any modern Tales game IMO, so I'll still do my requisite time with it.

Amazon just shipped my CE today, everything's perfect. I am glad it the delivery guy didn't leave it outside to the rain, or crash it with other stuff or anything. There are barely any protection for the game box, a little bit of weight will ruin the whole thing.

I played the original GCN version several times and enjoyed it, and it seems to hold up well even compared to the HD port. I do like seeing everyone enjoying this game, though. The discussion still gives me alot of memories. I can't believe it's been 10 years since the original release.

It was always kind of amusing back in the day seeing fans complain about not getting the PS2 port when it was a terrible port with some not so great extras.

I know what you mean. I feel like I'm back ln GAF 2004. Back then, I just discovered this place. Did all my gaming talk on IGN before then. GC owners gobbled up the goodness of Symphonia and it became one of the best selling Tales games of all time. Still remember GS having the Symphonia demo in there kiosk.

Honestly, I would go with Symphonia first because while it is a classic game, Xillia is just more polished in every aspect. So if you go from Xillia to Symphonia. You might be disappointed with how dated it is.

That's just my opinion. If you can only pick one then go with Xillia if you want something more current. Though I think Symphonia is still better.

The hate Graces gets is completely baffling to me.

It is, hands down, the best battle system of any Tales to date. It's a good game.
