This game just never stops giving. <3 Valve.

So much truth. This map is fucking amazing. Had some of the most fun matches i've ever had with this game tonight. It's Pyro heaven.

Messed around with arenas and they were alot better than i was expecting. I agree with you evlcookie that crits need to go in this mode. Love the new environment as well.

Haha, i''m not gonna start this shit. I like crits! I defend them. I'd just prefer crit free matches in this mode. Having one life and getting wiped out by a crit rocket in the first few seconds kinda blows. :/

Diggin' the new update. I really like the look and layout of Lumberyard. Didn't get a chance to check out Badwater Basin yet, hopefully tonight. I think arena mode has a lot of potential on larger servers. Valve delivers again.

Smiles and tears to my face, seriously.

On this note, I want to be there when Twig gets his Rasputin achievement.

So was this crit guage BS? Or am I blind?

I think it might have just missed the update. However, I'm not entirely sure that Valve officially announced it, but who knows.

Anyways, played a couple of arena maps and other maps last night. Arena is slightly better than expected, but I don't know if it's not having actually played for a week and change or the new mode but I did horribly in them. I agree with the sentiment that these maps should be converted into other modes in addition to their current incarnation.

Last night's games on Steel were hilarious, my team pulled off the most clutch defense game I've ever seen on Steel and then immediately followed up with the absolutely worse attack round ever. :lol

I enjoy Arena mode, way more than I thought I would. The short matches and frequent team change-ups really keep things interesting, although I've already ran into some questionable team lineups (Three spies on a 6-man team? Really guys? :lol )

I'm not really sure how I feel about the wall of heavies anymore... it seems like there's so many of them and they do so much damage that at least one of them is almost always critting. I went soldier last night and like every third shot of mine was a crit, partially due to the damage I was causing to all the heavies. :lol

Badwater doesn't give the defenders an advantage like Goldrush does. There are only a few chokepoints, and once you gain control of the final corner chokepoint blue can easily overpower red.

No, just no. Crits do not belong in arena mode. AT ALL.

I notice people like to afk when they're sitting out for arena. That makes for great 2v2 arena matches where the other fellow is afk.

Vlad said:
How do you do that? Is it only on certain servers?
If you press space bar you can toggle between the three modes. FPS mode, 3PS mode, and spectral mode. In spectral you move as you would your regular character.

I want to play more of this, I really do. But as of lately my connection isn't doing good. My fps drop to 30 exiting spawn and I usually get a spike of lag once per round. Really irritating when it happens during combat, once the spike ends, I somehow died.

Any advice? I'm on an wireless Linksys router I opened ports and defragged my computer, lowered my specs below recommended, but nothing seems to work. Its strange because I've been playing over a year, and only had this problem the last month.

Arena really is pretty meh. 4 or 5 rounds is enough before it gets boring. And yeah, crits really don't belong in it (Except headshots/backstabs of course).

I agree with meh for public servers. Definitely was designed for two competing clans that actually collaborate on strategy. As for crits... I'm not touching that subject with a ten foot pole.

Considering that you can't choose your team...no it was designed for public play, like everything in this game.

My biggest issue today with the arena was that the same map was on for too long. They are really small, symmetric, etc. It is just not fun to stay on them for more then 15 minutes.

I just think that it would be more fun in tourny mode.

Arena CVARs
'mp_tournament 1' for tournament mode (allows you to choose teams AND none of that three team, player switching skadoo)
'tf_weapon_criticals 0' if desired

I think arena would be better if the rounds were longer. 3 lives instead of 1 would be cool. Then engineers would maybe actually be useful.

My thoughts on the update so far:
Arena mode is fun, but only in short bursts, ravine seems to be most interesting, lumber is a nice change of scenery and pretty good, but the remakes are battles we have every day anyway so they feel pointless.

Badwater, now that I'm done grinding for achievements, is fun as hell as other classes. Its nice to be able to have a new playing field for engineer. Its funny that it was released in this update, because heavy is at a bit of a disadvantage on most of the map.

Steel is growing on me more. It can still be confusing, but really fun as well.

Natascha is weak while there are so many heavies around, but it could be useful.

Sandvich is hilarious, but I haven't found it very useful so far.

Gloves take so much room on the screen that it distracts me, but I haven't really had any chance to use them during normal play.

is it the gloves taunt that has the bell sound, or is that just the sound when you switch to the gloves? because that sound is so awesome.

The taunt makes 2 bell sounds ring as if to signal the start of a boxing round, yeah.

Damn it I still need 2 more achievements.

Sandvich was pretty usedful when you had a team full of heavies and one medic. It even saved me from burning to death once.

I think once people start playing their usual classes instead of slowly walking around as heavy the sandvich is going to be a lot more dangerous to use.

Tonight's games reminded me of why demo is my second most played class. Completely wiped out the squad of Heavies escorting the payload on multiple occasions, not to mention dozens of sentries. :D

The nerfing of winbombs will be a sad day.

Badwater continues to be awesome.

Arena's existence is justified if only for moments such as my duel as a spy against a lone soldier for the victory in arena Granary earlier today. Nailing him felt great.

Wow, console TF2 players do nothing but bitch about the lack of post-release support from Valve. Well you've got it now!

I have a couple of friends who'd probably be willing to pay up, but I'd imagine the rest would simply boycott on principle.

Ouch. Valve is planning to charge for the TF2 updates on consoles.

http://www.gamerchip.com/team-fortress-planning-to-charge-for-updates/

Its not their choice to charge, Gabe has said numerous time Valve wants to release the content for free but MS wants to charge. Not sure how it would work either, if you pay...you get the extra weapons or what? I can't imagine doing the achievements on consoles where the community isn't even that big.

I think MS even has a limit on achievements, so there is no way they could bring 35 new achievements per class to the X360.

I also just saw that I have a guest pass next to TF2. Is that new? They should just start to hand out TF2 for free at this rate.

The gloves are from today on fuck awesome. Was able to get behind the enemy on Gold Rush 3-2 and BAM. One life later I was able to climb on the sniper balcony, punched a Sniper down and jumped down to the spawn...BAMBAM.

Okay, apparently I've been playing this game for nearly a year under "Medium" texture settings. I have no idea why, I should have put it under Very High to begin with, since my system handles it just fine. It looks like an entirely new game, I can't believe I've been running the game with such terrible textures for so long.

I've been playing in Medium forever out of necessity, looks good enough for me! :p

Pretty good gaming today. I even got someone to leave the server due to my sniping so well today :D

And I launched a pyro in the air and a sentry finished him off. But the question is, how did he land?

cp_steel0005.jpg

And Oreo, work on those snipin skills!

I think I gunned down more people with my revolver today than I backstabbed. Such a great weapon. Especially against pyros and scouts who underestimate me and just charge straight forward.

Also spent a good portion of one of those Dustbowl games doing nothing but backstabbing spies. :lol
