I actually haven't run 3dmark on this system yet... it's fairly new, been lazy about downloading it.

Tried the Crysis beta this morning and I was getting all types of weird artifacting.

Have you tried the new drivers from laptopvideo2go? Laptop video drivers are a pain; I went with the laptopvideo ones and the gave me a slight bump in performance in 3dmark, but then old games like Vampire ran with weird low-res textures, so now I'm just using those from the manufacturer's site.

What I'm really looking forward to is dealing with the dual-7950 Vista 64 SLI issues.

YEs, Im using the 163.44 beta drivers from LV2G. Im pretty sure this is the driver released for BioShock. It's been working well for me. Using XP SP2, and sadly only 1 7950 :)

this game runs damn well, I'm playing in 1920x1080 everything is on high except shadows. No motion blur. I'm running 2 x AA and V-sync. I get no slowdown and all this on a 9800 xt.:D The new drivers released boosted my card stability alot.

Also, I think this game will do fantastic on Xbox live, so many cool things happining, and because of the way the players are balanced I don't think dual analog will be big a problem.

seriously. do NOT take it out.

you are supposed to be punished for dying you know that right? if as a spy i take out a turret then the engineer, i dont want to immediately have said angry engineer in my face about to kill me! there NEEDS to be some downtime there and i think they have got it more or less right.

also pyro is fine if anything i would add more to speed so it can dash around lighting things on fire better.

but do not remove the respawn timer!!!!

It's a subject that's getting a lot of debate on the Steam forums. Seems cut right down the middle of people who like it, and people who don't. Easiest solution to appease both groups is to shorten them a bit. (Although I fall in the camp that loves the timer, because of the game balance it provides)

But see at that point you're just being defensive. So you stabbed someone attacking your base, big deal a heavy could take out all of them. Spies are suppose to be working inside enemy lines.

But it's cheap as all hell. You get across the enemy lines and then just hang out in the base being invisible and stabbing people. Couple this with the respawn timer and you've got a really annoying unbalanced class that's going ruin alot of sessions IMO.

For me the game is running between 60fps [no people] to 20fps [loads of people], and even then.. it all feels very smooth. The lower framerate can barely be noticed to me, and usually that sort of thing pisses me off.

Maybe it's the style of the game which makes everything still seem relatively smooth.

I've tried all classes now. I've had the best luck as a scout or Engineer. I'm not really sed to working fast as an engineer yet though. Need to sort that out.

I also did really well as a Sniper, and usually I'm shit at Sniper in other games. Man those HWG's can take a whole load of bullets :|

I had a blast playing last night, but I've got to get into this GAF game of greatness! :lol

BTW, the spy is the biggest griefing class EVER... it seemed like every time I finally got my sentry guns up I would get stabbed in the back.

Yes, but it works both ways - why shouldnt the engineer have an opportunity to get revenge for your actions? Too long of a respawn and you can just repeat the same action and run away.

Well then you should hide an exit marker near your area first :)

Played as the pyro a bit more today. I still think he needs tweaking, he does have his uses though. But he's a friggin offensive class but he requires to get close to people to do any damage. What? He's the easiest class to defend against, can't do shit to sentries and if u back away from him he's fucked.

The worst part is the cone of the fire is tiny but from your point of view it looks huge, it is also extremely hard to judge the distance it can fire.

The whole time I was playing him I couldn't help think that other classes namely soldier are much much better offensively. Still I did put 5 people on fire woo achievement :D

I used to play Engineer and Heavy back in the day but now I find myself favoring the scout on offensive maps. His speed matched with his scattergun is a great combo. Plus running up to a heavy and beating him with your bat is awesome.

I had a great run as a Heavy w/ medic. I wished I wrote that guy's name down because he was such an awesome medic. On the flipside of things, as a medic it's great to pair up with people who know what they're doing. Nothing's more infuriating than giving someone invulnerability only to have them back out of a fight screaming for a medic. For fuck’s sake, you’re glowing blue, press on!

Maybe you wanna play a spy for more than ten seconds, because it's really not that easy.

Seriously, I love ubercharging people as medic but then most of the time the stupid heavy or demoman runs around in circles or runs back >_< I've been running behind them for minutes healing them up and once they have the power streak they forget how to attack.

I also hate Heavies who abuse the Medics. They already have one Medic devoted to healing them, but they keep screaming MEDIC MEDIC, so I run looking for the person w/low health but it's just a greedy Heavy who wants multiple medics.

Anyway, I need some GAF people to play with on Steam; please add me :)

So what do you do as a medic--follow people around recharging them? I think I'd really like to give the class a try as I've always been more of a "help people out" FPS player, even in games like Resistance. What else do you do? Any tips?

Pretty much. Medics are sitting ducks on their own.

I dunno if I'm a heavy and a medic hasn't been super charging me once I start getting hit I start yelling medic just so they know I'm there in case I start getting hurt alot. But then again I rush forward as a heavy in an attempt to clear out areas.

Before the match begins, I charge up my ubercharge as much as I can and usually rush out with Heavy/Demo/Soldier at beginning and unleash uber on first wave of enemies. Then I check on healing snipers/engineers (who are setting up sniping spots/building sentries) and go around other attackers healing as needed.

It's a rush constantly healing a Heavy who is mowing down forces while dodging their attacks yourself and looking for spies. Medics are picked off first by spies so you have to quickly switch to gun and shoot them before they get you :(

When a team only has 1 medic, you can't just focus on healing one attacker, but stand behind them and heal the attackers as needed. If one person gets real low I tell them to move back a bit so I can focus on healing them, then I heal the next person, so on.

If the team is doing ok, you can be ballsy and run into the base with a scout or other attacker and heal them all the way into the flag room. It's hard keeping your heal stream locked on a scout the whole time, but if you have support (usually from soldier) it's doable :)

Right, that's fine. But one game 2 heavies (each with one medic dedicated to them) were back near the beginning of the base yelling MEDIC MEDIC while I'm out in the front of the battle healing soldiers. So I go back to see who needs help to find 2 worthless, fully charged Heavies running around pissing me off :(

Great, thanks. I'll try those things out. Not that I care, but I'm guessing you usually get very few points as a medic then?

Its also funny when people get the documents on 2fort, but don't know where to take them. I had to escort someone last night because they had been running around in circles with no idea what to do or where to go.

You share the kills of the person you're healing so you can actually score pretty high if you help a good heavy.

Ah, ya that's just stupid in that case I only do it when I'm charging ahead and have no one helping me or about to die.

I'm a noob, and in my brief play I really had no idea what the fuck I was doing. That's what's nice about other FPSes is that you can just go into deathmatch, get a feel for the control scheme, and then figure out the rest. Not quite the case here and the little tutorials and tips in the game are nice but usually I just wound up following someone who looked like they might know what they were doing. My guess (and I wasn't really listening to anyone as I was just trying to figure things out) is there's quite a bit more noob-hate in this game than others, but whatever.

I bet the "movie" that plays when you join a level for the first time explains it, but like I have time to sit through all that, i wanna get to the killin! I did a nade-assist jump up in to the enemies base, and the two people behind me were like, wtf?! and kept trying it over and over, was funny.

Well I played the capture-the-territories game and I do watch those movies, so it gave a quick rundown of how to capture a territory but I still felt a bit lost and overwhelmed (this was part of the reason I wanted to get it on 360). I also would have liked to play with bots or really just any offline option to not have to get acclimated to everything at once, but what are you going to do? I can appreciate that the game is incredible, and you can't ask for much more.

Start out for a few hours playing a medic. Stay back, find a heavy to heal, and right click when the meter is full for EXTREME FEVER mode. You'll have a chance to get a feel for the maps and the general gameplay without having to spend a ton of time up front learning classes or mastering killing using each classes' specialized weaponry.

Has anyone been able to start a standalone dedicated server? When I try to use the one inside steam, I get a "No steam content servers available" error, and when I install one via HLDSUpdater it doesn't generate a server.cfg file anywhere / I don't know what variables to set.

What noob hate, and whats hard to understand? I thought the game was straight forward. Defend, attack and capture.

Hmm, isn't there a seperate package for the server files?

Getting pissed off with the new Scouts, their shotty is really powerful - I've seen soldiers running away from them. It shouldn't be like that! :lol

And bring back Rock2 :(

Yeah, I have a feeling he's going to get nerfed on release.

I'd like to see Flagrun get remade but maybe you have to retrieve warheads or something.

"I hate that Zanboo guy"

Honestly that's the best game I've played in. We held the last cap point for 14 minutes before finally losing it out.

It was really hard fought, very, very tense. They would push up and we'd repel them, rinse, repeat. Unfortunately they got a spy in that just wrecked our heavy + medic crew and it shifted the tide for them to win.
