Team Fortress 2 |OT4| Official Halo Thread of Polearms and High Fashion

I don't know if that is the right place to ask but I hope some of you can help me. I recently discovered that TF2 hats have (a lot of) value (apparently). Since I am a totally new to this I wanted to ask how much a Left 4 Dead 2 pre-order Bill's Hat and a coal crafted The B.M.O.C. are worth... in dollars please. I have no idea what a ref, key etc is. People keep asking me for them all the time when I play. Thank you!!

Depends on the Bill you got, if it was a vintage Bill's hat that you got some of crazy value on your hands. Regular Bill's hat are around $10-12 and the B.M.O.C has drop significantly in these past couple of months making it around $15-20.

WHAT HAVE YOU DONE?
Is there a good site for item values in regards to selling them? Seeing as how I only play this game probably once every 3-4 months anymore, I figure I might as well sell off old vintage/genuine hats and gear to get something out of it rather than it collecting virtual dust.

Genuine Machina
Vintage Bonk! Atomic Punch
Vintage Crusader's Crossbow
Vintage Blutsauger
Vintage Backburner
Vintage Frontier Justice
Vintage Jarate
Genuine Righteous Bison
Vintage Buff Banner
Vintage Kritzkrieg
Vintage Sandvich
Vintage Flare Gun
Genuine Diamondback
Genuine Short Circuit
Vintage Tribalman's Shiv
Vintage Eyelander
Vintage Homewrecker
Vintage Cloak and Dagger
Vintage Dead Ringer
Genuine Company Man
Vintage Noble Ammasment of Hats
Vintage Towering Pillar of Hats
Vintage Brigade Helm
Vintage Respectless Rubber Glove
Vintage Backbiter's Billycock
Genuine Nanobalaclava
Genuine Purity Fist
Genuine Robot Chicken Hat
Vintage Pyrovision Goggles
Genuine Three-Rune Blade
Genuine Hero's Tail
Genuine Sign of the Wolf's School
Genuine Anger
Genuine Brütal Bouffant
Genuine Shred Alert

Is everything I'm looking to get rid of right now. I imagine many of the items (weapons in particular) will be going for pocket change at best, but yah.

Edit: Looks like the steam marketplace itself would be a good idea. Derp.

http://backpack.tf/id/zerokku Sort by value. I have no idea why your vintage towering pillar of hats could be worth 13.5 keys but a level 42 vintage engie hat could go for something.

edit: The "with bonuses" might be referring to a desirable level since the pillar of hats is lvl 1 and the hotrod is 42.

Thanks! Oh boy, Bacon Pancakes!

Can I sell Jarate in the marketplace?

I can find it there, but the Wiki page says "marketable: no".

http://wiki.teamfortress.com/wiki/Jarate

Where can I check which account type I have (free or premium)?
If you bought Orange Box at any time or TF2 before it went F2P, you're premium. To be sure, go to the properties of TF2 in your game list and check the DLC tab for the "Premium DLC" listing.

I'm assuming how you're going about this is playing a bit, getting a random drop, and hoping to slap it onto the market for cash. That ain't gonna work. The Jarate you see being sold is vintage quality, all that really means is that it was acquired before the Mann-Conomy update. All vintage quality items can be sold on the marketplace, but not regular non-consumable uniques, which comprise nearly all drops except for paints, tags and crates.

So you wanna make dosh outta your TF2 drops? Well, you're allotted a limited amount of drops per week, around 8 or so items not including crates before you're capped until it resets, usually Wednesday at 8PM EST or so. What you do is take the weapon items you get (like that Jarate), and craft them with other weapons of the same class to make a scrap metal. Metal is a low currency amount in the game. Now, it takes two weapons to make one scrap, and with three scrap you can make a reclaimed metal, and with three reclaimed you can make a refined metal. What you're probably going to bank on is trading for keys with your refined, which you can then flip on the Community Marketplace for whatever the going rate is at the time, usually like $2~.

A key is fluctuating in price at the moment but it goes between 3.33 - 4 ref, which means 30 scrap on the low end, so 60 weapons that you get in drops, which would take about 7-8 weeks. So in about two months you can pocket yourself a hard earned $2 to spend on whatever Steam delectable you desire.

Yeah, if you see people on Gaming Side going "I don't play TF2 anymore and I got $10-20 out of Community Market! Hot dang!" it's because they played the game a long time ago netting them some items that became vintage, or by selling their preorder promo genuine items.

In the steam thread it's certainly the latter.

Peter Bartholow posted an announcement 5 hours
We’ve received word from Valve on the Leviathan Team Fortress 2 hat, and have informed us that the Team Fortress 2 team “just doesn’t have the cycles to accommodate the Skullgirls TF2 hat.”

We’re naturally disappointed, and understand that many of you will be, too. Nix’s early model was looking solid, and we were also really excited for the Big Band hat/item concept he was proposing, too.

So how did we get here?

We announced on a recent stream that we intended to make TF2 hats, thinking that didn’t count as 100% confirmation. People were excited and the story took on a life of its own, and we felt it would be hard to go back on that. Given that there were a handful of recent and upcoming releases that featured promotional hats, we took a chance and included it in the campaign. At the time we felt confident that getting approval would not be a problem, but obviously we were wrong.

We haven’t given up – since the PC version and beta are still a few months away, we are currently investigating to see if the Team Fortress 2 team will have an opening in their schedule between now and then to see if we can salvage this.

We’re also simultaneously investigating alternative digital items to replace the Leviathan hat, and hope we’ll be able find something as desirable if not more so. Of course, in the interest of not repeating the same mistake, we won’t discuss what those items are quite yet.

In the event that any or all of these items are approved, they will all be awarded to anyone at the “Backer” ($30) level or higher, regardless of what the Perks said at the time of your order.

So as of now, we can’t guarantee that we’ll be able to honor the TF2 hat or any other in-game digital items. We never had any intention of misleading you, and I regret and take full responsibility for the situation.

If the hat drove your decision to contribute, please feel free to contact support@indiegogo.com to have your contribution refunded.

Sincerely,
Peter Bartholow

Tf2 hats dead for now. Refund if you want.

I really wish they would add a badge/medal slot to the loadout seeings that I don't think they conflict with any misc item and very few people actually wear badge promos over items that would make their outfit cooler.

Clearly you don't remember how crash-prone the game was when they first added a second misc. slot.

Source engine has a limit on how many entities can exist at once. If you're ever playing engineer on a crappy map like cashworks and your buildings seem to blow up for no reason, it's because of the entity limit. Allowing everyone to have another entity would only cause more issues.

The only change I'd like to see is getting rid of the pointless hat/misc division. Just having 3 "cosmetic" slots makes much more sense.

Nobody post these anymore?

I'll show you some cycles.

I'll give it a few more days to see if there are more developments then I'll probably pull out.

I hope not having the cycles is code work for working hard on a major content update that will be out soon.

I shouldn't set myself up for disappointment but I can't help myself.

Dammit, I'll have to catch the VOD later.

Something like this. Promo items are coming out almost every month now, right? There's the modeling work, the animation or map work for special cases, QA for anything made in-house or by the other developer (paints man, paints), and all that combined means they're probably booked for the next several months for official TF2 collaboration releases, if not for the rest of the year.

Of course, I didn't consider any of this at all until I got that email.
