Hey peeps, I'm just in the opening area of the game and I can already see two "whited" out things. How do I fill them in so to speak? I'm shining my light on them but nothing is happening.
You need an item that you soon will receive There are a couple of things you will not be able to get with the items that you have at that time so you will need to revisit these areas later. I shouldn't worry too much about collecting everything in your first playthrough though.
I've got both games on day 1, 100%'d on Vita. This is the definitive version; bigger, (slightly) better and isn't missing anything from the original.
The thing is, if you've already played the Vita version most of the novelty is lost and there'll be no surprises. There are a few new stages, some remade sections and most of it controls differently, but in the end I felt double dipping wasn't really worth it.
Or maybe I'm just grumpy because collectible hunting wore me out this time around.
I think you're grumpy, gonna have to call a lot of this stuff out as inaccurate. The Vita game was almost entirely comprised of vita specific inputs, all of which are gone, and the PS4 version uses a ton of DS4 inputs, none of which are represented in the Vita game. "A few new stages" also doesn't really capture that the game is almost 50% brand new stuff.
It boils down to:
- If you loved the Vita game, this is a familiar, but largely fresh experience.
- If you hated the Vita game, this is not going to change your mind.
- If you never played the Vita game, you should really try this wonderful little masterpiece.
I've been reading impressions, and I'm curious to know what people who already played the Vita version think. Is this the definitive version of Tearaway? I've played the Vita version and I really liked it, but some reviews make it seem like it doesn't have the same charm as the original.
Played the Vita version and working my way through Unfolded right now, and I'm fully confident in saying Unfolded is hands down the definitive version. The game looks stunning and plays great. There's enough to keep the attention of the people who played the Vita version already, as it goes above and beyond what you'd expect from a "remaster" or "up-port".

People who have finished the game, is it a sequel to the Vita version? I ask this knowing its a remake and after beating the Vita version. The question still stands.

I bought this yesterday, adored the Vita original. Only a couple levels in, but it doesn't grab me like the first game. I don't love the light shining mechanic, and the camera seems more problematic. Still looking forward to playing through it though.

This one threw me for a loop, too. I even flew around the Cove and couldn't find it. I must have ran past it 5 or 6 times before I finally found it. Haha!
The Misplaced Gophers present is enough to drive a person to madness! The biggest offenders, so far, have been on
Between the Pages and The Desert
. I wanted to pull my hair out on both of them.
Between the Pages
would screw me over and over again on little nit-picky things, such as
the book with the hole in it killing me as I jumped *over* it
or
randomly getting stuck on some of the geometry
. On
Between the Pages
I at least had the foresight to copy my save from the checkpoint before the Gopher to my USB drive, so I didn't have to go through half the level multiple times. And on
The Desert
I died 8 times
trying to cross the glue covered bridge that breaks
. This was the most infuriating thing of them all, because I wasn't doing anything other than what the game wanted me to. Oh, well. I finally got them both, so I am 100% completed up to
to the level after The Desert
.
Also, for the record, I love this game. I know I've already vocalized this earlier, but it's worth repeating.
I'm looking forward to playing this game. I don't have a Vita so I've never had a chance to experience the original version. The artstyle looks wonderful and I am a big fan of platformers.
But they really released this as a terrible time. I'm still playing Metal Gear Solid 5, I have Until Dawn in the wind for Halloween time, and then Fallout is hitting soon afterwards. So I don't see me going out and getting this anytime soon. I don't like having a backlog, so I try to avoid buying games until I know I'll play them. Which is sad because I would have jumped all over this had it been released a few months ago. I hate seeing good games getting buried like this. I suppose I am part of the problem now.

This is the worst thing about this version. I might be wrong but i'm pretty sure that has to be getting a patch soon.
They can't really expect people to replay the whole chapter when you make one mistake, or if the game has a glitch(which has happened to me multiple times) can they?
why doesn't the gopher just re-set and give you another chance to try from the start? making you replay the whole chapter and with no option to skip cutscenes is crazy.

If your finding the camera bad early on try and get used to it because it get's far worse later.
I dread to imagine any poor children playing this on some of later chapters... I remember the vita version having a few camera issues but nothing this bad.
I have no idea where I'm supposed to go next on Wassail Orchard. I've just reached the squirrel king in his little den, stuck his crown on me, took a photo with him, now what? There's no obvious way I'm supposed to be going that I can see.
The mention a few times that the story is rtold time and time again, you meet other messagers along the way from other stories. So my question. Do they insinuate this is a new retelling and that the Vita story still exists?
So I binged this game over the last day and a half, and just beat the
mountain
level. I assume I'm about 1/3 of the way through. I decided I'm not going to kill myself over collecting everything. I'm going to look for as much as I can as I make my way through and just enjoy the game... I averaged about 90% completion for each area so far.
I have not played the Vita version so this is a new experience for me. The game looks and runs beautifully of course. For how large some of the areas are, I'd prefer a little faster running speed, as I feel there is a lot of empty space in this game. Though it is nice just to soak in the audiovisuals... The music and sound effects are great. By and large the mechanics are very basic so far. The game's charm definitely come from it's beautiful artstyle/music, and it's quirky story. The level designs so far are pretty fun and work with the mechanics well.
I'm really enjoying my time with it so far and it's definitely the breath of fresh air I needed after 80 hours of MGSV.
Never mind. It was glitched. The first time I got to the blue present nothing would happen. On another run through the level it opened as soon as I triggered the correct thing to do.
The misplaced gopher stuff is really annoying the shit out of me. Having to redo the level all over again if it goes wrong is just god damn bad game design.

skip it, there is no way that having to replay the entire stage is intentional.
They need to, and hopefully will, patch that mistake.
the weird thing is that if you kill the gopher next to where you start the mission he re-appears back where he should but then glitches out and disappears, that tells me it's a mistake.
So for anyone else breaking there balls just skip the misplaced gophers, i'm sure it will get fixed in a patch.
Arghh WHAT THE FUCK I was really close to the end and then the gopher bloody disappeared out of thin air! For the love of Christ. Yes I think I will skip these and I'll make sure they're the last things I do if I'm going to try 100% the game.

As i said before, the game is far to glitchy to ask players to beat the gopher missions in one go without an option to try again.
I made it to the end of a few but one time the present refused to open and another time the gopher vanished out of my hands as soon as i arrived at the house.
Great to have some challenge but without a re-try option, and alongside all the bugs and glitches, it ends up being horrible.
Haven't unlocked it myself but I read the description of the Harlequin trophy as changing the color of each piece of gear on Atoi that is possible. HOWEVER, I just saw someone pop the trophy by using one of those complete conversion skins like the Journey one.
This one stumped me, too. After replaying through the first two levels, I thought I would check all of the squirrel tips and, sure enough, there was one for customizing your messenger.
Click on the right analog stick (R3) when doing nothing.
I got the Platinum trophy last night. There was no way I wasn't going to get it, I was determined. Tearaway on the Vira was my very first Platinum trophy, so it o my seemed right to get the Platinum here.
Pretty sure the Journey and Kratos costumes were pre-order bonuses. Dunno about the pirate outfit. Does nothing show up when you navigate to the "Hanger" icon in the customization menu? I imagine they'll be made available eventually. Still, it's just a way to insta-pop the trophy (which I'll be doing as soon as I get home lol), but you can still get it by changing the color of every bit of kit, I'd imagine. Maybe reset your Atoi and go through each part and change the color?
I would love for this game to be my first platinum, but the misplaced gopher is really putting me off at the moment. And I can't find a guide anywhere for it online to help me with missing birthday presents cuh.
There are two from the bar: one about the barman asking you to toss everyone out, and the other from the misplaced gopher that you can find on the beach and carry all the way there. I think the one you mean is the latter.
Tearaway on Vita is one of my legitimate GsOAT (don't have a PS4 yet, but Unfolded would have been a day 1 purchase if I did). How can this happen? Do people really hate fun this much? Poor Media Molecule, and poor Sony for constantly funding these boundary pushing studios making some of the most innovative and fun games, and not being rewarded. Dreams is equally doomed, no doubt.
So the vita exclusive pulled from vita and put on PS4 with a lot of care and effort, only for it to be ignored again for once again Sony failing to advertise their own games? What a shocker!
Its a damn shame, as the original was my 2013 Game of the Year and I came around to appreciating the PS4 version in the sense that they really put a lot of care in making the PS4 version feel like it belongs on PS4 (instead of simply throwing the game on PS4).
Hope it sells well over time and that it becomes a stronger success then the game was on Vita.....can't believe PS4 owners are ignoring this game....
Happened to my brother a few times also, we sent the disc back because it had troubles booting up at times and got another copy which ran better.
Sad thing is that he's also ran into game breaking bugs like you, had to delete the whole game and re-start.
I really hope that the re-start fixes the glitches but it sounds like your was still broken after a re-start... this is getting ridiculous.
Fingers crossed a patch comes out quickly.
Nah, I'm not going for the platinum, I simply cannot be bothered. I've just finished a level there where I managed to miss just two pieces of confetti. Stuff like that really annoys me. If I want to 100% the game I'm going to have to replay that whole level searching every nook and cranny just for two pieces. I ain't got time for that. And this doesn't even include all the presents and scraps and photos and misplaced gophers I've missed along the way. I'm just going to complete the game and be happy with what I've got trophy wise.
I salute anybody in here who has the patience to grab the plat, you're a hero in my eyes.
I had to supervise my kids playing this because of two problems:
there is definitely more than one bug that requires a level checkpoint restart. If we found one in the first two hours there has to be more. (an apple dispensing machine wasn't running so no apple - nothing to throw). Plus at some points it is a mystery what has to happen next and I have to grab the controller off them and experiment systematically.
Also there is just a little too much stuff going on sometimes. Throwing things, throwing things into the screen, hitting targets, etc etc. It all gets just a little bit too much. The current goal is sometimes not really clear the first time round.
Also the drawing on the pad is so wonky. You're looking at the screen, but you should be looking at the pad. And you feel like you need a stylus. Every shape pretty much ends up like random blob instead of a crafted one and then a kid immediately sticks it 40 times which is funny but not really what the game thought was going to happen.
That said, it's delightful visually in many places and really a lofty goal media molecule set they just didn't quite pull it off.
Just finished the game. Wow, what a amazing, creative game. There were a few annoying glitches where I needed to restart at the checkpoint, and the end part of the game kind of dragged on, but overall this was a fantastic and sweet game. The music is really great. This was better than LittleBigPlanet in my opinion. Can't wait for Media Molecule's next game.
Edit: Also, screw the Gopher challenge runs. Couldn't do any of them
And then the LORD David Bowie saith to his Son, Jonny Depp: 'Go, and spread my image amongst the cosmos. For every living thing is in anguish and only the LIGHT shall give them reprieve.'
