Halle Bailey has been getting a lot of film roles recently including the upcoming film "The Little Mermaid" from Disney. This gives me hope that in the future she'll feature in one of my all time favourite film series: "Black Ass Fuckers".

And if you're on Android, you can use YouTube Vanced which is essentially a modified YT App but shows the dislike counter, automatically skips commercials & in-video promos, allows playing of music when the screen is off etc (essentially a better version of YT Premium).
Oh nice thanks, had no idea about that

It didn't matter back then because the woke Wars hadn't started. If it were made today the anti woke would be screeching about it.

Yea its mostly around 2012/2013 the screeching about "woke" stuff started:

You get 10 guesses what happened in the US in 2012 that could spurn such a reaction.

Side note in this thread, but I’m no programmer but if YT hid the dislikes, why would the metric still be available to scrape off the page with this vanced app? Why couldn’t they code it so it’s impossible to track?

The term came to prominence as teenagers and university kids started to coalesce their social justice views around the term, "being woke". Given how successful it was at spreading and infecting both private and public institutions, why do you wonder that this fascist like ideology spurs discussion?

It's hard to argue against it. It's absolutely true.

I don't agree with it, I'd be contrary but it's all over the place so my opinion is nary.

I'm not 100% sure, something to do w/ the official YT API & user data permissions. I believe there have been different methods on how they went about it w/ old videos prior to it's removal compared to new videos which requires further user data permissions from said plug-ins/apps. I don't believe YT will ever be able to get rid of it until they remove the ability for creators to see it or rid the button entirely (which would go against their reasoning).

Will watch when it hits Disney+

Live remakes aren't perfect or really even comparable to the animated originals for me since so many of them I have nostalgia for. Will be fun though I'm sure.

Not racist or anything but why was a black actress cast as Ariel?

I mean c'mon Disney. Its not hard. It's not fucking hard. You can get any white chick off the street that hasn't seen the sun in a few years, put blue contacts and dye the hair red.

I dunno who this is. Who the fuck is this? And she looks like she has dreadlocks?! WTF is that?

Funny thing is that there has ALREADY been a black mermaid, in the Netflix show Invisible City. And if Disney shows Ariel the same way, no one here is gonna be complaining :p

I tend to take the cynical view when it comes to these issues. I don't think the execs at Disney actually give a rat's ass about racism. In my view, they did this for several reasons:

1. Most critics will have no choice but to give the movie a positive review.
2. If the movie doesn't do well, it's because of racism, not because the movie isn't good.
3. This "controversy" is free marketing and many mainstream outlets will write dozens of articles about it because it gives them woke points.

I dont think its racist to change back for fun.

I don't give clicks to websites like that. What was the official reason for the Twitter ban? Is that accurate, or related to something completely different than the video he made?

Quick someone name a popular black mermaid?!! … you can’t.

Do little minority girls not get a mermaid? Is that the answer?

Do they grow up with their only role models being the likes of people like cardi b?

Meanwhile at Disney world. ..

One of a thousand Ariel statues/ images around the parks.
No live action Disney movie has replaced the originals in any context. There will still be tons of references and merch with the original Ariel for many years to come.

This doesn’t hurt anyone except maybe Disney’s wallets. I mean it’s obvious virtue signaling but there is no down side here.

Not sure how these companies make their money back though. Maybe through hate/rage watching? I'm guessing bad publicity still generates income. Otherwise i really don't understand why they hate/attack their fans so much while also trying to sabotage their own products. It's crazy to me. I suppose by virtue signaling as hard, they can at least deflect any criticism using the tired racism/sexism argument. It's the standard trick by now.

One thing is for certain. All these "woke" shows and movies will never pass the test of time. Each and every production will be completely forgotten. None will ever reach classic status. heck, they will never even reach cult status because cult movies are either underrated or "so bad it's good" material. In the future nobody will ever ask for re-releases on new, future mediums or remasters for future devices. None of these diversity hire actors will ever be asked to sign autographs in any events for portraying these characters in those shows or movies. All of this is just as forgettable and unimportant as any "made for DVD" cheap movies you see in cheap stores.

If it was in a vacuum, sure. However, this has been going on so long that people are beginning to get sick of this stuff. Black people have stories to tell, why do they need to race swap existing characters? It's pretty racist if you think about it.
they keep ignoring this argument.

The original term for the word referred to being cognizant and resistant of systemically injustice such as racism... this for obvious reasons did not have a negative connotation. However, itd begun to get a negative connotation despite the definition not actually changing. I dont wonder why being resistant to bigotry has been attached to a negative connotation at all. I know exactly why it has been.

Its not racist at all. This story isn't taking away from black peopels stories being told. Were getting quite a few black stories in films, actually, and most of them have faced similar pushback from the ones against this casting.

Its almost like it has nothing to do with who is being played by the black person.

Oh, ok. So folklore, like made up, fictional, not real. Got it.
So explain this to the room. After having decades and decades of reference material for Ariel, from the original film, to toys, to games, to their theme park attractions, food, clothes, costumes, and everything in between, which 99% of that won’t change and will continue to be sourced well after this…

Why do you truly think Disney did this? What do you think their reason was instead of creating an original character?

Because Halle Bailey is a rising celebrity, easily marketable to families and children, already has a fan base, and is very talented and can sing very well... kinda like Benson was when the original adaptation released.

What Other reason does there need to be? Let's keep in mind, this is not the first Disney live action remake. We've had Cinderella from 2015, Betty and the Beast, and we will get more of them because they make money.

Its pretty clear they saw an opportunity where the original setting has no actual race requirement to adhere to, and so anyone could've gotten the role. Its not a conspiracy lol

Lol, look ultimately this is being blown up to a bigger deal than it is. I just hope it's a decent watch. I dont care about Ariels race that much but I do like who they picked.
